Live updates: Brush fire burns in Pacific Palisades as Santa Ana winds blast Southern California - Live video at link

Trying to come up with precedents in recent history, but most of the ones that come to mind immediately (Fukushima, Mt. St. Helen's, Katrina, Helene) weren't really as affluent as PP to begin with
You could look at Greensburg, Kansas that was pretty much wiped off the map after it got by a tornado in 2007. 90% of the population was homeless as a result. Many years later and they finally rebuilt the city. Though they forced to be a "green city". Of course this still cant compare to multimillion dollar mansions. God only knows how long it will even take to teardown and clean the rubble, especially with the nightmare of California red tape.

Here is the typical California politician/official way of handling problems.

1. Ignore the problem for years in favor of splashy hip culture war/social wedge issues and pronouncements. Or in some cases make it worse with DEI.

2. Flail around once disaster strikes.

3. Have your circle of incompetent politician/official pals effusively praise and pat each other on the back (usually not directly since that would be too obvious but through their respective organizations) no matter how shit the response was and how unnecessary it should have been.

4. Go back to ignoring the problem.

For those are wondering why the state keeps voting the way that it does, the Greater Los Angeles Area has a population of ~18 million and the SF Bay area has ~17 million, not counting illegals. The entire rest of the state has about 4 million people. It's all because those highly condensed areas are not only full of dead-serious blue voters that actually think this was due to climate change and the answer to homelessness is 'just make more shitty houses'. Everywhere else gets no representation, however a lot of counties pretty much stopped giving a fuck about what the state says because they know that no one is steering the ship.

Many areas of the state aren't anything like the (now literal) hellhole. Here's a good representation that you can digest:
I visited California last year after going to Death Valley, and yeah it was interesting how different it was than I expected. I was along the eastern side, not anywhere heavily populated, and it was surprisingly conservative. Lots of farming, very beautiful, and nice weather. Weird amount of wannabe cowboys. Also tons of mexicans - visited a zoo and it was probably 75% hispanic. At least it was families with fathers present, I'll take that over blacks any day of the week.

did they speak english or spanish?
important question to separate wetbacks and bean boys born here
I didn't have reason to speak with most, but when I did, they had usable English (better than some of the ebonics shit I hear), but definitely second language. They all spoke Spanish amongst themselves.
Given the location and all the farming, I'd guarantee they were mostly a mixture of green cards and illegals. I doubt many of them besides perhaps their children were born here.

The children were definitely not immune to the Fortnite and TikTok brainrot, which was equal parts amusing and depressing.

Another example is Lac-Megantic in Quebec which had its downtown blown up a decade ago. Let's see how the reconstruction is doing:

...Yeah. Modern planning and construction are not cut out for rapidly recovering from major disasters across the West nowadays, and in some smaller towns the capital that remains likely doesn't even cover the losses. With the amount of time it takes, people and businesses will inevitably move on.

I once saw firefighters complaining they can't compete for fire department jobs because they'd rather rely on inmate firefighters, which make up one third of the LA firefighting force and make $6 an hour (it was $2.50 not too long ago)

Is this true? Or just typical internet whining about how hard it is to get the job you want?

They've had this program 100 years. It does seem very exploitative of prisoners. They dangle "minor criminal record expungement" on a stick and there have been deaths in the last few years.

I've lived through hurricanes. Florida all day under DeSantis.
Amen. Say what you will about meatball but when he stays in his lane he knows what he's doing and actually LEADS. The worst neglect that happened in my neck of the woods was just a bunch of branches that didn't get picked up for months. And that was only because there was literally too much foliage all over to pick up.

I want to say It took a week for the utilities and power companies to get everyone not swept out restored. California is going to be lucky if it gets anything in a month sans starlink.
It was space jews with laser guns. Dumbass.
If I was a paranoid power mad asshole, id invest in the space laser. Because it's more likely to succeed without a paper trail and it's too insane to be believable.

If the bit about the library is true, that’s heartbreaking to lose all that written history. But in happier news the Getty collections were moved into vaults pretty early on in this mess. Plus they apparently have their own water tank or something. Hopefully it makes it through.
The Getty supposedly has insanely well planned fire prevention systems and there’s also (supposedly) a lot of underground vaults filled with (supposedly) sex-trafficked slave children, so if they just scootch the kids over a little bit there should be room for all the precious artifacts. I’m more worried about the Norton Simon museum in Pasadena, they had a lot of Van Gogh stuff the last time I was there and I’m not sure on their sex dungeon situation so they might not have a safe place for the paintings.

the deaths are why they let inmates do it. also its usually the "cream of the crop" of non-violent offending firefighters, usually the ones that got the book thrown at them. Its the highest paying job inmates can have as well. And very well respected, think about it like suicide squad or the dirty dozen. Its the most dangerous jobs using people that won't be missed. But overall its the prison equivalent of those email jobs in the corporate world. they get a lot of privs for way less work and get to be outside and sleep in beds not as shit as the prison ones. Because of the PR stuff its pretty much the nicest people in the prisons too, the type of men that probably would have become firemen or police officers if they didn't grow up in the ghetto and get addicted to drugs. i know a couple and they all ended up getting great jobs in one of the many labor unions and rising through the ranks. If it weren't for the tattoos you wouldn't even know they had a bad upbringing, but thats LA for ya.

Some spic will look like the softest person and can quote every line from Gilmore girls and marries some lady with a computer science masters degree and they have kids who aren't even allowed to watch PG movies at 12 years old and they murdered a dozen people and got away with it as a teenager and went to prison over some meth deal entrapment. people watch too many films and assume the biggest murders look it, meanwhile Chapo and Escobar look like they'd run an ice cream parlor.
It was a spic btw, but I know the Muttecs that larp as white on this site will pretend otherwise.
The looting videos show spics, the alleged arsonists they've caught are all spics.
Edit: Your based aryan tradcath latino american <3
if people were from the area they'd understand how little the black population is, beyond that what few niggers there are aren't even remotely close to where the fires are. especially in the gated community areas any nigger will be spotted and reported super quickly. how people can see all these celebs houses burning down and think they're living around nogs is insane

There was this religious library in the area that got burnt to a crisp. Someone said so on Threads, and mentioned that the place contained 40,000 manuscripts, but last I checked there were 0 major news sources covering it. Can't even remember the name of the library, or even any of the specific losses. But they say it must've been pretty serious or culturally significant, I guess?
That is (was) a library for "Theosophy", a religion founded 150 years ago by a schizo named Helen Blavatsky who believed you can do magical seances to talk with dead people who can put you in touch to meet the Ascended Masters who can turn you into a god. It's really silly shit that's mostly a knockoff of Buddhism and Hinduism, with bits of ancient mythology thrown in. It's not much practiced anymore because most of the teachers in the religion used it for making money and started their own New Age cults instead. It's a really dumb religion, even if it's pretty harmless. No loss at all.

But Paris Hilton didn't get rid of hers and still loves it dearly.
She might be a dumb obnoxious whore, she might be a lazy eyed tone deaf bitch that grew up with way too much of daddy's cash, but I do believe her heart is in the right place.
Bless, I'm glad to read that. Compared to the celeb and influencer trash that's popular today Paris wasn't too bad. I begrudgingly respected her a little when she took a role in Repo! The Genetic Opera, even thought she can't sing and the whole story satirises people like her. A little self-deprecation and a love for animals goes a long way.
