Forget even the obviously-still-counting-and-hard-to-determine-atm pure death count. How many celebs and rich bitches on TikTok are gonna be irreparably third-degree burnt to a crisp so badly they'll never want to appear on a screen again? In all likelihood practices like this were happening for years and it only now bit them in the ass. They didn't see the risk with not having a little water around, and pushed more policies/practices thinking that the worst will never happen to them. The investigation into these fires is likely going to uncover decades of retardation that eventually lead to them.

I got mine, despite having about 20 miles of dense concrete urban jungle between me and the nearest fire. Turns out, the idiots in charge sent an Evacuation Warning to every man, woman, and child in the entire county (an area larger than the nation of Jamaica), scaring people and making a mess of things.

So naturally, I went to the website linked to the warning only to find the website down. When it came back up again after 15 minutes, it wouldn't show me where the fires were because it thought that I lived somewhere in the middle of the Pacific Ocean (yes, I gave it the necessary permissions to detect my true location). There are old angelfire sites from the 1990s that still function better.

This is third world stuff. And you know what? Wait until those folks burned out of their beachfront homes try to apply for permits to rebuild. The Coastal Commission is gonna tell them to get stuffed. I've long argued that California, once a proudly red state, would eventually turn red again. People laugh at me for this, but the 2024 elections showed half the state turning red, and nothing makes a man feel red more than having a bunch of lesbians on the Coastal Commission tell him that he is SOL in rebuilding his beachfront home. This fire may be just enough to at least turn the city red again. What's left of the city, I mean.

My uncle, who lives in a nicer part of LA, also received this warning, yet the fires are roughly 18 miles from his house.

This is one of the most inept and confused disaster responses I have ever seen. Are the politicians on the same crack and heroine that the homeless of LA are taking?

The number of deaths hopefully will not be in the thousands. But they will be a lot more than 5. With the speed some of the fires were moving through populated areas they are going to be finding the elderly who pulled “Harry Truman” obstinate moves and stayed with their homes. (Mt St Helens Harry Truman. Not the dead President). And they are going to be finding pockets of homeless camps that just did not get the news until it was too late. Or were too stoned and insane to take any remedial action. I dread what they are going to find tucked in under some of the overpasses. The Firefighters do the impossible in rescuing so many. But in this case there was just too much fire in too many different directions moving much too fast. And not enough firefighters to find them all. My retired professional estimate is they are probably looking at around 250-300 dead from Palisades and Eaton. And I hope I am guessing high. Thankfully it looks like the Responders and communities did an outstanding job evacuating the nursing homes and similar.

Since I'm not a structural firefighter, I can't predict death tolls, though in the low dozens seems likely. Only have had one civilian death in any wildfire I have been on, which turned out to be the arsonist

There's a certain justice in seeing the houses of all these liberal moviestars who spent years crying about Trump, while building mansions on fire hotspots go up in flames.
Hopefully this drives some change.

I'm unsure that budgets actually prevent low humidity and whether or not it rains, but I could be wrong on that too. Perhaps budgets could prevent it raining on the coast and stop hurricanes also, I'll have to look into that deeper.

I pretty damn sure that a financial budget doesn't affect atmospheric moisture levels or rainfall amounts. Next time I need rainfall on my garden Ill throw a couple singles at a cloud like it was a stripper. I'll let you know how that works.

From the out of control warning system, the budget cuts right before it all went down, the empty reservoirs/palisade, zero prep after the last giga fire, no biden blast of presidential intervention or outside crisis management, to the aging water baron with his drought almonds contributing his part to this issue for decades, to the new and improved less threatening fire social workers (fighters is too strong of a word) all the way to to the rampant crackhead hydrant thefts I can't even tell anymore if this is a really sloppy scizo plot with no thread ending or discernible purpose or the actual for real consequences of the hubris bubble bursting after being pumped up for years by an entire state of rich mongoloids and nepo baby leadership and non-contributors.

I feel fucking awful for the normal people stuck there.
