I wonder how many vehicles 17 Million dollars can pay for...
On a somewhat related note, I live in a rural county in an undetermined area, but this undetermined rural county does not play around with fire safety. They still have the fire truck they bought in the 1920's in perfect working order. Its more a show piece now, but can still do the needful if absolutely necessary.
Speaking of absolutely necessary, the vast majority of the county is on well water, but the nearby major water source has a single solitary pumping station, that feeds a few pipes that reach into the areas of the county that are not near any major water sources. All the major pump trucks are issued 2,000 meters of hoses, so that if absolutely necessary, they connect to one of the isolated system nodes in the county for fire fighting.
This system was installed at great expense through local taxes. But it definitely works. We've not had a forest fire in almost half a century,. The observation towers are derelict and unmanned at this point. Maybe a mistake, but they were installed prior to the installation of the fire prevention system. Does any California county have anything similar?
