I often read that porn addiction leads to increasingly deviant tastes but, as a recovering addict, I cannot say it was ever the case for me.

I looked at other stuff occassionally, sometimes it gave me a tingle or too, but I always just came back to boobies. No man, no sex, just live cam girls. It didn't even have to be a grand sexual display either; I just found comfort in the e-girlfriend experience (without ever parting with my money).

Another thing of note is that despite my having looked at porn daily for 6 years, I never considered myself an addict. I always thought, "I can stop whenever I want, I just don't want to." Spoken like a true addict? Well, one day I decided to stop and it was easy.

Porn is terrible but I get the feeling that it does not lead to absolute deviancy in every case. Perhaps similar to the way not every nicotine addict moves on to harder stuff.

I'm going to go one step further and say that masturbation on your own, even though a lot better than watching porn, is still useless and harmful. We get the urge, but we can also let the urge go and use the energy we would have wasted on masturbating on something more meaningful. I'm not saying pleasure is wrong, but mindless pleasure is just avoidance of life, a coping mechanism to escape the things that are painful. It's understandable to use coping mechanisms (I'm the first to be guilty of this), but it's not as good as confronting your problems head on.

Are you feeling stressed? Try to get to the root cause of the stress, find ways to root it out. Masturbation in this case, isn't going to solve the stress, just offer a temporary band-aid. The stress will be just as bad once the high from orgasming wanes.
The same thing goes for avoiding your painful emotions, whether it be sadness, loneliness, anger, helplessness... they'll come back even stronger when the numbing from masturbation fades.

In my opinion flower celibacy seems like the best way to go, aka being celibate except when you have sex with your significant other, in an intimate way that's not merely mutual masturbation, but an enhancement of connection between the two people.

This is fantastic advice! I started doing this myself, and life is so much more rich now. I feel everything more, whereas before I was numb. Going through life numbed out is horrible. Why even live when you're merely a zombie sleepwalking through your days?
