Warhammer 40k

It's Guard codex time!

The worst thing is that i just can't bring myself to care about this despite Guard being the only army i own. 10th ed just feels so damn boring for some reason, and i find myself wanting to go back to the broken mess that 7th ed was
10th edition might be a waste product, but let's not be brazen. There's no need to feel nostalgic for blast templates.

I'm probably regurgitating a lot of the complaints, but 10th edition lacks any of the flavor from previous editions. An example of this would be the Ork codex. Most of it's lore was copypasted from 9th edition and barely had anything about the other clans. It also dosen't help that a lot of the grimdark flavor that made 40k is being snuffed out to be more advertiser friendly. And GW, like a bunch of other retarded game designers, are waaaaaay to focus on pandering to the 1% of the players.

One thing I’ve begun to appreciate about 10th edition is that every unit has its own special ability.

Your basic infantry is not just there to hold objectives; they interact with objectives in a unique manner.

My main army, Chaos Space Marines, has the cultist unit be able to capture objectives and hold it without needing to be on the objective. The Chaos Marine unit gets to reroll wounds in melee if they are on an objective.

Both unique rules emphasize the offensive playstyle of Chaos Space Marines, but you have a significant trade off of being able to take objectives and move to the next one or being able to push opponents off objectives.
Okay, I seriously don't get where this shit comes from. Checking stuff so far, the grimdark stuff is still there just it doesn't approach the grimderp levels like TC does.
My guess is that it stems from the Primaris looking more clean, new, and tactical than the Firstborn. Though that has been changing, similar to Age of Sigmar’s Stormcast. Also ignoring the new time-worn Necrons, Inquisitorial henchmen, Night Lords Kill-Team, and everything made for Necromunda.

Other than that, it’s people that are somehow shocked that there are women and non-white people in the setting.

1. Stop buying codexes. They're probably the shittiest product GW has
2. You're right, the lore didn't change much between 9th and 10th. Remember when it took 20 years to resolve Cadia being blown up? This isn't new.
3. Advertiser friendly? GW would be the advertiser. No one is buying ads in GW stores. I have no idea how you've gotten this backwards. Nevermind all of the completely goofy shit the game and lore used to have in it. I don't even need to go back to Rogue Trader for inquisitor obiwan sherlock clousseau, when Sly Marbo still exists in 10th edition.
4. Which 1% of the players? The company is doing a couple orders of magnitude better than it was a decade ago. That doesn't happen when 99% of the players aren't playing and give up or whatever.

I really think the issue is that 40k hasn't changed -that- much for how long it's been around, in comparison to other IPs at least. It's certainly been fleshed out more and more, but in an era of constantly upping the scales in every piece of media that's ever existed, 40k being basically stagnant and not prone to constant one-upsmanship is weird and abnormal. Unfortunately you can't just keep one-upping grimdark, eventually things reach a critical mass where it either gets repetitive or stupid. There's only so many ways you can write 'And Then Everybody Died, But More Gruesome And Awful Than Before', before it just becomes silly.

Also, and I cannot stress this enough, the people complaining about 'woke shit' and 'less grimdark then ever' don't actually read the books. The book I read that was most recently written was Oaths of Damnation, which released last August or thereabouts, I can assure you the ending was as grim and dark as it really gets. I won't spoil it, because the book was very fun and a solid read, but it gets pretty fucking bleak, especially when you realize what's happening and you're staring down the barrel of the inevitable.

I agree. But you can't pretend that 40k is doing something now that it wasn't doing previously(especially when there's still plenty of grimdark shit going on if you actually read any of the books and not just warcom articles and lore summary videos), as if the grimdark has just vanished or whatever.

They absolutely don't.

Even in Space Marine 2, the primaris armor Titus has is beat to shit from the start(presumably because it's used), and you spent most of the game covered in gore. Same in plenty of the novels as soon as something is actually happening. There's no reason for their gear to be falling apart or looking like shit standing around in a ship talking about an upcoming mission, these guys aren't playing with legos or coloring books in their spare time. Even in the older books, they're constantly cleaning their gear, use way too much lapping powder(makes me wonder if anyone at GW even knows what lapping powder even is, or what it's for), so why would that change?

I agree with this. They're completely pointless when 3rd party sites post all the rules anyways.
What's even more egregiously Jewish is that the Warhammer mobile app had all the datacards available when 10e dropped. They've now put them behind a paywall that require you to buy a codex and use a unique confirmation code.

And yes, that's also for paying customers.

On a semi-related note, what makes the HH tabletop different from the main game?

you know you could just write your own codexes GW doesn't want you to know this but....t least 100 of my own codexes at home
.

Also I've never once ever paid for a codex I pirate all of them I use the printer in my office to print everything out

You know what the annoying thing is there's no guard games we actually have to care about constant ammunition shortages are people giving you the wrong ammo.
Such as when the first normally get the wrong charge packs for the last rifles.

Also think they should do a guard game it's a turn based strategy something like Fire Emblem advanced war where you're encouraged to keep your troops alive but you still can just get more and more cannonball if you want

Yeah it's basically 7th edition minus xenos. Also instead of modern goofy admech in 40k, the cult mechanicus/admech stuff in HH looks a hell of a lot better.

Supposedly due for some sort of refresh this summer though. It's been discussed that the game has needed a balance update for at least a year, the assumption is some sort of dropsite massacre themed box, but no ideas if there's going to be a major rules change making it into a 3.0 or just a balance update.

We have Chaos Gate and Mechanicus which are more like XCOM style of games. I think Mechanicus is closer to what you want. You have your elite kill team that you can supplement with cannon fodder and you earn upgrades for their kit and specialize their roles as you play. I might not steal the rouglite elements from dungeon exploring but go traditional XCOM where you have a base of operations where you manage the global war.
