Live updates: Brush fire burns in Pacific Palisades as Santa Ana winds blast Southern California - Live video at link

great visualization of how close the fire is to the 405 with one of the big retardant tankers in the frame to boot

And what else burns? Witches!

Somehow, nowhere in this list do they ever include nuclear power, the one genuinely almost totally carbon neutral energy source.
Because their information on nuclear came from a variable mix of accidents with older, flawed reactor designs, nuclear bombs, The Simpsons, and once again Captain Planet. Also ooga booga radiation scary. Complete and I'd say deliberate lack of education on how any of this works and zero curiosity. When there is curiosity, the most available and simplest resources trend towards SCARY GLOW ROCK BAD

Captain Planet ruined an entire generation
I wonder if the environmentalists have figured out yet that forest fires are a natural part of California’s climate? The regulations put in place currently, like being anti controlled burns and logging to clear out dead trees, creates the environment California’s forests used to have prior to human interference. The dry weather and dry dead plants on the ground make it optimal for forest fires. Having no interference would make parts of California uninhabitable due to how common fires are there.

Can't they just do it like Chicago and have sirens for specific public works? Just let everyone know that when the siren makes a specific sound it's because they're working on something. I'm sure other cities do that too but I know recordings of Chicago's sirens also tend to generate loads of comments from people who think it's oooo so scawwy
Cant answer that, not my area of knowledge. Probably, would make sense to use sirens. Not surprising that people are getting spooked by emergency sirens. Those commenter's are the people that cant be helped, and most likely to die in a catastrophic event. Sucks to be them when shit hits the fan. Protip: Do not use social media for emergency information.

Unfortunately, the terrain, wind, and fuel types pushed the fire faster than sirens would have given time too prepare for evacuation. Protip 2: Have a bugout bag ready at all times.

They also conveniently lack the education on how solar panels and wind turbines are made. It requires a lot of mining, and wind turbines aren’t easily disposed of after use. Solar panels require rare minerals like cobalt, in order to save the energy created. They act like it’s all super simple, when in reality, creating any form of energy, even “green” energy, requires extracting from the earth in some form.

A lot of this allegedly "green" bullshit is only green where it's deployed. But to get the materials you need for it, you need shit like this:
This utter hellscape is an entire lake of barely liquid toxic sludge, tailings from the mining of rare earth minerals.

So this solar shit may be "green" where you live, but it's only by inflicting horrific externalities on poor people who live far away from you.

Whole neighborhood got a paintjob.
Anyone know how damaging long term those fire retardants are on homes?
Fire retardants are famously contaminated by heavy metals (google it) which means that the soil in that area and below (where water flows) will be contaminated. The retardant itself is possibly carninogenic.

btw. it's not "clay water", it's phosphates and sulfates which release CO2 when heated.

Let's be real, if California had a nuclear power plant they would mismanage it and let it meltdown in the worst possible way to irradiate the land for generations. Nuclear is only for intelligent states.

Oh yeah, for an out of control fire definitely. But Chicagoland areas all have their own set of alarms of varying levels of emergency- seek shelter from lightning, seek shelter from tornado, seek shelter from bombs theoretically, boil water advisory, utilities work is being done and there may be interruptions of service, etc. I don't see why other cities can't pick this up for " forest fire planned to start in 30 minutes". I guess I don't know how much it costs to build air raid sirens in cities that don't already have them.
