Unpopular Opinions about Video Games

Its still pretty unmatched as a social sandbox. The combat actually has a lot of nuance too, in that you have a lot of ways of fighting but the ai doesnt really fight back. Its weird because theres a high skill ceiling to its systems but nothing to actually test those skills, that said if you want a game that's fun to mess around in there's a lot to do in it.

This is a trend with those devs too if you play any of their games, tons of player agency but no adversity at all so the only thing that makes you try things is to see how their little interaction systems will behave. Its true in Sleeping Dogs and The Chant (a game youve never heard of) as well.
Yeah Rockstar has a tendency of adding melee combat in their games, most of which is fine, and I won't lie, I kind of like the combat in Bully now that I think back to it, that's the one thing I like about it, the rest is a no for me.

I played the original The Citadel demo (I don't think Beyond has a demo) but it just felt like a low-effort Doom mod...one sound effect for monster death, long boring hallways, inconsistent artstyle.
Yeah this one’s gimmick is that you had to press an individual button to eject the magazine, slide in a new one and pull the slide. Also guns could jam. It’s a gimmick I find enjoyment.

The cries of the baby, the giant horse mascot. Basically anytime it’s meant to make Jimmy feel guilt for what he did.
Tbh I don't think these were bad scenes. I heard you can interpret them as Jimmy mental state and dig up some humanity in him (even small)

Im sorry, I just like the ying-yang interpretation (If ignorance and negligence of Anya was drawback in Curly, so maybe it's spark of humanity in Jimmy, if characters are morally grey. OFC I don't condone his action, Im just digging)

I've spoken about this many times to npcs and/or people who are very critical against AAA video game companies and nobody will believe it or even bring it up.

I dunno how in the hell do people believe that things like EA, Ubisoft and Sony (and recently GameFreak and Niantic) are not just going out of their way to piss people off and making themselves and everything they do unlikeable on purpose to keep us unhappy and angry. Essentially like DSP but all of their actions are conscious evil with no reason other than to fuck with people and alienate for fun.

They would at the worst just assume that they are so ignorant and greedy that they are equal to being malicious, but the moment I suggest that most, if not all of the horrible shit they do are deliberate evil, I get stared on and treated like a scourge.

If this was just a single guy making a mistake I can give the benefit of doubt, but we're seeing multiple companies following in lockstep on a pattern. Once is a mistake. Second time is an accident. 3rd time a pattern. And so far gamers saw it happened a gazillion times.

But that is the game...

But that is the game... ...game...
Really, I must've not have remembered it well the last time I played, think I got close to the end but I dropped it there.

Also Majora's mask is some shit, fuck that game, it's not fun going around trying to collect masks, plus there's only 4 fucking dungeons in the game compared to how many there are in Ocarina of Time, Nintendo lost their marbles with that one, and this is mainline game...without Zelda, I remember playing the game in 2021 and randomly dropped it.

Open world shit is overdone too, and we need another wave race. (Someone else brought that up in another thread or something like that but I think that it's time for another water racing game)

I have this suspicious feeling of the lack of coop games and only PvP games (with the lack of PvE, PvPvE)

A number of major recent releases focus on PVE, including the latest Warhammer shooters, Helldivers, Diablo IV, and Deep Rock Galactic. Extraction shooters, like Escape from Tarkov, are PVPVE.

It gets even worse that more and more games remove voice chats.

I have yet to see a single multiplayer game with no voice chat. What has actually happened is tons of people now use Discord for voice chat because having a 12-year-old shriek at you or a nigger play his rap over the mike is annoying.

Civilization VI does not have voice chat,

Yes, it does, via Steam.

I do this too but I feel like a lot of gamers are addicted to negativity, they don't even play games they just rage against wokeshit online.

I'm mad because wokeshit has made the game series I loved unplayable for me, and I don't really have a replacement.

I'm convinced that sports games are for mouth breathing, lazy retards who couldn't even hack it in a pickup game of touch football at their local community center. I can at least understand the appeal of watching sports, even if it's still retarded since you could easily grab a basketball and shoot some hoops yourself but whatever, but to play a virtual version of what is, objectively speaking, games that literal children do for fun? Lunacy.

It's like a slightly less sad version of simulation games where you mow your fucking grass or bag groceries.

The executive leadership doesn't sit around, trying to figure out how to piss people off. What has happened is that after about 15 years of ESG, there is no longer anybody in the company who can tell the truth. When it comes to wokeshit in media, we're in a situation similar to the Abilene paradox.

Consider the typical scenario at a gaming company: They've been told by consultants or internal analysts that the only way to growth is to sell to the browner, gayer, womaner Modern Audience. Besides, you need to be hiring more browns, gays, and women to hit ESG targets. Of course, brown, gay, women can't code, so you hire them to be writers, directors, and consultants, giving them creative power over your game.

"Fine," you ask. "But so what? Why keep letting them fail after they fuck up several games?"

I want you to game out how you can communicate to the executive team that they made a mistake, and the brown, gay women are fucking up your revenue stream in a way that does not get you fired. What are you going to do, say that making the main character of the game a mulatto lesbian was a bad idea? That brown, gay women don't write content that resonates with young men? That if you're going to have female characters, they shouldn't be butt-ugly so they don't drive young men away? Fuck no. You're not going to say any of that. You get five decision-makers together to talk about your sales problems, and you've got five people who know that even appearing to think diversity does anything but strengthen you means you're on the short list for the next layoff. Even if all five of them are secretly right-wing, they know better than to say anything.

So you'll keep getting this shit, because nobody's ever going to say it's a problem.

How about: be as racist, sexist, and homophobic as possible on the internet. It's like putting a message into a bottle and throwing it into the sea. We're doing important work here.

It’s no different than fans of UFC feeling like they can kick everyone’s ass despite not being able to walk up a flight of stairs without feeling winded.

There’s also the various McKinsey reports that claim niggers, faggots, etc. ackchually possess trillions of dollars of wealth and they just can’t wait to buy your game or watch your movies if only you’d add more niggerfaggots to it. They never stop to think why these particular demographics are just hoarding their massive piles of wealth but that’s where anyone who asks those kinds of questions gets prompted to tender their resignation.

That's part of what I was talking about. McKinsey said it, I believe it, that settles it. And if you say, "I don't think it's a good idea to add niggerfaggots to this game," you're fired for being a bigot.

Related, remember, in 2020, the insane outrage on the left when some campaign consultants said the truth, which was that a woman will lose votes with black men, and therefore Elizabeth Warren couldn't win? Didn't matter that they were right, and were proved right in 2024. Either you say that more women is more gooder, or you're out of a job.

I don't know if the modern quest for ultra-realistic graphics are "destroying" gaming or not. I'm not high enough placed to say.

I do know that so many modern games basically looks the same. Yeah, maybe one game has a more fantasy vibe, maybe one game has more of a tactical realism vibe, whatever. But they're all using the same handful of engines, (Increasingly, just the same one engine), but it doesn't matter.

Real looks real. A rock you scan in from a real rock, a tree you scan in from a real tree? It looks the same. A human face looks like a human face looks like a human face. I'm not saying they can't be done better or worse... The Witcher 3 had gorgeous graphics, for example, but still fell into this trap.

It's one of the reasons I had such a soft spot for Dishonored, despite there being a lot of problems with the game. They tried something different. The game had a look to it.

It's one of the bigger reasons I like indie games anymore. Look at games like Valheim or Deep Rock Galactic or The Long Dark - they all look distinct. You wouldn't confuse them for another game.

I feel theres an uncanny valley effect that applies to scenery sometimes. Environments in new games feel too detailed if that even makes sense.
Its because, unironically, normies and npcs see better looking graphics and instantly associate it with a good game, and it works, thats why every AAA slop company has been toting that you can see the ass hairs on their characters with the graphical fidelity.

Anyways, my retard take is, that RDR2 is a mile wide and a inch deep, significantly more enjoyable to watch than to play, and it along with GTAO make me very fearful for the gameplay of GTA 6, GTA 6 could have the best story in all of Rockstar's library but if the gameplay hasn't evolved since San Andreas then I won't care.

Yet, somehow, live action movies don't all look the same. Camera filters, color balancing, and postprocessing all do a lot to change the look of a movie. To me, it looks like game studios are largely just applying the same Pixar-like lighting & postproc methods to everything, so everything comes out looking nearly identical.

This is COD4 in 2009. It's realistic, but also distinct:

This is Black Ops 6, somehow managing to look exactly the same as every other game:

I try not to rage too much against woke shit. Everyone’s definition seems to vary on what is woke. Rather use that time to find something that i would enjoy. Cultured Vulture has some good videos about top video games on retro platforms that have helped.
I don't know why anyone still is shitting blood over it at this point. That's what the industry has been for years, so why be surprised?

I just like watching it fail monumentally, like MK1 and TLOU2.

gameplay hasn't evolved since San Andreas then I won't care.
Every game has been a step backward from SA. I miss the involvement you had with CJ's physical being. Endless mini games. The map variety. Everything now is just going for ultra realism, and classic GTA was never about that, which is why it's fun.

But that's a limitation of, well, using live action.

Video games have the freedom to do anything crazy they want, but so few ever do anymore. Back when realism was impossible, I feel like there was more creativity.

I've had the chance to play Hades and... It's such a bad game. It's not even a roguelite even.

In roguelites, you progress each run and build your character, then you unlock some stuff depending on what boss you beat. In Isaac, every character gets something for each boss. In ETG, you get stuff for beating the final boss (and achievements), etc.

Not in Hades, though. In Hades your character starts up weak, and you grind bosses and play runs to unlock currencies. These currencies are then used to purchase stat based upgrades that make your hero better. So you never optimize builds or get interesting runs, you just grind. Early on, bosses are too strong and your character is too weak, so you literally cannot fight them head on. You unlock weapons and upgrade them so they are no longer shit, so more grind.

True roguelikes, like FTL, ITB, never change the content of the game. Roguelites get harder the more runs you beat. This bullshit? It's just grind. You never win runs because of skill and luck, you just need to grind to get better stats and a stronger character. This is bullshit!
