For most people, it has nothing to do with sunk cost fallacy. And, for many people, California is not a lost cause.

A lot of people forget that California was a proudly red state for most of its history, right up to the 1980s. Ronald Reagan was a two-term governor in the 1970s. Most of California north of San Francisco and Silicon Valley is very conservative, as is most of Eastern California.

A lot of people say only dingbat libs live in California, but 38% of the state did vote for Trump in 2024. People say that the people in the state will never wake up, and California will be blue forever. The thing is, only 10% of the state needs to wake up. That is how many were needed in 2024 to flip the state red. A 10% swing in voters is not impossible at all when they feel like they have been absolutely ignored and mismanaged. I expect the vote to be much closer next time.

And 62% voted for Harris. And California has a Democratic super majority. I'm sorry, but you guys gotta stop with the cope and acknowledge the situation. It's terminal. Like, you guys can stay there and burn or whatever - but it's not going to change. Just be real about it if you're not gonna actually leave. Nothing is going to save California.

Fun fact. The food truck feeding the firefighters is the hill that every one of them will die on. Any idiot trying to order the truck away will face a serious physical beat down with an assortment of horrifying firefighting implements. If anybody questions it further the food truck will be painted red with flashing lights bolted on faster than an LA chop shop can strip a car. You do NOT get between the firefighters and a food truck. That food truck is currently the safest most fireproof business in LA county.

If they are eucalyptus trees burning, the best you can do is get the fuck out of the way and pray for rain. Once they get to critical mass, there's nothing that can be done except chip away at the edges.

We bulldoze massive firebreaks, but that's not a perfect system, it's just better than nothing, and nobody's going to bulldoze billions of dollars worth of housing to try to stop the fire.

I wonder if the IRL practice outweighs or even just balances the $cost$ with regard to foreign firefighting planes.

I think it was just last summer that the smoke from the Canadian wildfires was blanketing my area for like 2.5 weeks. It's probably good for them to train personnel on the equipment with a real life fire. Of course ty Cuckada, I hope you don't burn again this year.

Also, will Hollywood put out a bunch of extra garbage because they want to recoup losses and the actors who got burnt out need $$$?
