Russian Special Military Operation in the Ukraine - Mark IV: The Partitioning of Discussion

That works too, but when I made my post I was thinking of the more traditional method rebel groups historically have gone with for sabotaging railroads...

You need more explosives than that if you're looking for a catastrophic derailment.

There used to be an OSS video on YouTube that showed them testing how much rail needed to be knocked out.

wrecking trains is Serious Business it is the land born counterpart of submarine warfare with this note added Goods transported by train are classified urgent drama yes there's plenty but no dress rehearsals it's strictly a one night stand repeatedly staged in most axis occupied countries only the plot remains unchanged this picture is a dress rehearsal possibly the first time that men with their explosives have had the opportunity to actually practice sabotaging railroad cars and a locomotive while she's still in one piece let's introduce our opponent the 280 locomotive tips the scales at 53 tons tender at 49 first two gondo gravel loaded and groaning under a gross weight of 6 65 tons each third Gondola filled with ties hugging the track with a 40 ton burden the remaining cars empty weigh in at 25 okay operator back or up have you any ideas on how to wreck a train sounds easy doesn't it we're going to wreck this one with two 8 O charges of plastic explosive placed 6 in apart they will blow a 12-in gap in an 85lb rail technically interpreted meaning 85 lb to the foot that's strange nothing happened hardly got a bump out of it let's take a teleph look in slow motion we could call this 12-in Gap a rearo Chuck hole but not a trap for Wrecking trains evidently we didn't place our charges far enough apart this time we'll blow out 2 8 in gaps and leave a sleeper in between 20 in long when 350 tons of rolling Freight crashes into this trick setup something should give the locomotive has no steam she gets a good shove by a pusher engine and coasts down the straight section of track towards the Gap where she opens something's gone wrong again the tie under the 20in section gives us a little that the force Pikes won't let go of the rail those cars wobbling are the empties but not a wheel derailed so we'll knock out that 20-in sleeper with a 36 in gap a road bed of loose gravel and a soft Foundation she'll go Caboose over engine the engine's power wheels are only 30 in in diameter when they drop off the track the following wheel should well whatever they should do they didn't only the pilot Wheels derailed the driving Wheels rode the Gap like a Jeep jumps a rut the first two tires were broken but that only made the empty gers bounce a little more a 36 in gap should have done the trick but what we really need is a gap in both rails so we'll take a 30in section from each track the two gaps are exactly opposite and there won't be the tendency of one wheel keeping the other headed back for the rail keep your eye on these gaps that's where she'll wreck another dud wait a minute no use going on with this run not one single wheel derailed not even the pilot Wheels those gaps being exactly opposite each other made the setup too evenly balanced this time they're staggered with the centers offset 15 in now the wheels will get a Twist and decidedly bear off to one side or the other the Gap can't be seen from here but it's at the same the pilot wheel flipped off again but that doesn't wreck trains five runs over an assorted pattern of broken tracks by Theory any one of them should have wrecked her ignoring Theory there's one fact that we positively know no train can float over a 58 in gap the parot wheels are 30 in in diameter and the driving wheels are 50 trains run on tracks not ties that's simple deduction but the kind of logic that makes for good train wrecking this time we'll give our stubborn customer an extra wide birth she'll hit that open space at 26 mph and when she does nothing happens to the engine tender first second third fourth ah now we're getting somewhere let's take a closer look at that running light their wheels bounced right off the track but those are the empties the loaded cars are still on the track these cars really hang together that makes six runs six upsets and Six Theories partially disproved we'll try it once more with 60 in of rail out of one track and 30 out of the other the centers of the gaps will be offset by 30 in that's a lot of track to blow out but obviously it can't be wrecked on less okay engineer give her a hard push here she comes and there go the cars the tender's front truck straddled the rail RI it off the ties and wrecked the other cars but the old Iron Horse just wouldn't Bite the Dust by these tests we have proved that breing engines is not easy to minimize the uncertainties of success in the field the office of strategic Services intends to continues cooperation in experimental operations we now better understand why efforts in subversive Warfare sometimes fail and hail the successes with even greater admiration h

Good news!

Our knife wielding Yakut friend got a medal!

And not just any medal. He can now officially call himself Hero of the Russian Federation!

This helicopter dodges a FPV. It is astounding how quickly small drones have been developed into one of the gravest threats on the battlefield these past few years.

Russian films an artillery piece imported from North Korean.

Dang, looks brand new!

Likely also “inspired” by Soviet 220mm artillery pieces, so good hardware as well.

Good call by Putin to trade some oil and food for military hardware. Russia has plenty of 105 and 152mm howitzers. The one thing they don’t have a lot of, is those massive old 220 and 180mm guns. They have some Pion howitzers, but with Nork artillery arriving, they don’t get worn out nearly as fast.

Elon can fuck off, his opinion on anything is about as irrelevant as mine. Even moreso.
Fake Tweet. Real Elon Tweet would be him bragging about why his ancient 7000 year old knife made in India is actually the greatest weapon ever made sarr, Hindustan Zindabad sarr, and why India is the best ever sarr and why we need more pajeets.

For anyone who's wondering this is a move to kneecap competing AI and data industry.
And in the process to kneecap chips manufacturers.
At any rate, what competition? probably 95% of commercial tech industry is in US hands and its getting worse. Try to find any IT service provider which are not US based.

Everybody is moving to the "cloud" and basically there is only M$, AW$ and Gurgle on the market. Who take direct orders from the State dept and will kill your operation in one microsecond if you only just stray 1mm from toeing the line

There is competition of sorts but the lemmings in the IT depts and boards absolutely want to move to US based big players infra, which in my view is total madness. Hell, governments are moving all their stuff into US based cloud infra and services. One really has to be raving mad. Well, the same madmen are buying F35 and other assorted hardware that will stop working the very moment you forget to grab your ankles.

Yeah this dude definitely looks North Korean to me.

Duolingo downloads spike in Kiev as they frantically force these poor dudes to sit there learning Korean so they can make them say "kimchi samgyeopsal bibimbap" on TV and prove they're really definitely Norks
Ukrainian Prosecutor is preparing a case? That’s some real banana republic shit, considering not just the fact that they are soldiers, not criminals, but especially considering the fact that THEY WERE NEVER IN UKRAINE!

There are European alternatives, like Hetzner, and Chinese ones, like Alibaba.
Those only work at slow speeds, like in a railyard, IIRC
Are you sure about that? Trains will derail on their own if they run across some snow or a pile of leaves. I’m pretty sure a big chunk of metal bolted to the track would work just as well as some soggy leaves.
