We can maybe have some effect in our local areas, but none of us are in important enough positions to change any of the larger, broader issues. I can't change national policy for the US, and unless Vance or the Trump kids lurk here I don't know that we have all that much influence. Doesn't mean we can't do anything, but small, local changes. We're not the top-down people, we're the bottom-up people.

You know what could be huge business in Greenland?

Server farms.

No need to spend millions a year in cooling, just open a window lol. And since it would be a US Territory the issue of the law wouldn't come up it would be the same as hosting in the USA. Furthermore it is halfways between almost anywhere in the northern hemisphere so latency for Euros and Americans would be about the same.

Electricity for the servers themselves would be a issue, but nothing a nuclear power plant can't solve.

70-80% of Greenland's electricity is from hydroelectric. There is the potential for 3-10 Hoover Dam scale projects. Greenland also has an absolutely massive meltwater reservoir.

I could see a massive server farm possibility. Something with more data crunching than transmission, like AI, makes sense. Or big stupid bitcoin miner.

They'll build a giant AI automated military base with a fleet of drones. Then we'll end up with SkyNet from the North Pole.

I got his point. It's not a profound one to observe that few of us here have the resources of Soros or the position of Fauci. But I'm sure you got my point which is that you don't need to in order to make a difference.

A parallel example: Leftists are always talking about taxing the billionaires more in order to pay for everything. But the billionaires don't earn the bulk of the money in the country, the Middle Class do. The actions of individuals add up to be greater than the decisions of the few. If and when the mass of individuals choose to act.

And that is aside from the fact I reject the argument anyway. History is filled with perfectly ordinary seeming individuals of no especial background who one day decided to stand up and act and suddenly found themselves the nexus of new ideas and political forces. Whether that be Funny Moustache Man or some more reputable example. It happens all the time when someone simply decides to break their conditioning and act. It's silly to suggest I don't understand his point - it isn't a complex one. I disagree with it. We can all make change. And honestly, I speak from experience, it's one of the most satisfying feelings to stand up and try, no matter how small the victory.

People waste all this time and energy writing "solutions" for everything from immigration policy to how elections should be run, and those "solutions" solve nothing because nobody reads them.

I keep thinking about this. While calling it the Competency Crisis is a good enough name I think its more fitting to compare it to Cargo Cultists.

The wealthiest companies with the most advanced industries in the US got there over decades or even a century of incremental advancement and work. But these DEI hire cultists think wealth is merely an expression of systemic racism or the patriarchy or whatever. These entities are just wealthy because white people made them and they steal everything from the underclasses.

With this perspective they justify two things. Taking exorbitant salaries as soon as they get token leadership positions. Second is that nothing has any impact on company performance as the company is always an expression of racism and thus will aways simply be successful in the context of being "rich."

This leads to our current state of affairs and it happens in public institutions as well. See Los Angeles where these fires couldn't have been prevented and nothing could have been done in any way to change the outcome at all. Thus its not our fault we actually did an amazing job and prepared better than anyone could have! These people are ideologically incapable of making the causal connection. Yet, their malignant cancer spreads anyway.

If a white executive at Boeing delivered record planes to customers with no quality defects it was because of racism. If a DEI becomes that same executive she would have the same level of success or more because that white executive didn't actually do anything anyway. As long as she does what that guy did she is just as capable. He goes to the office and drives a nice car. I can do that! He sits at a desk reading emails, making phone calls, and writing messages all day. Who can fuck that up?

This is 100% the problem, the new people allowed to work don't perform and behave like the White men did, they perform and behave how they think the White men did, which was to get paid for doing absolutely nothing, and then also grifting on top of it (see any Black lady mayor).
