When you understand that, a lot of the stuff that Phil does/thinks/says kinda makes sense from his perspective. To a sociopath or an extreme narcissist, other people are basically just furniture that moves around a lot. They only exist to serve a purpose to you, and when they don't or can't anymore, you just throw it away and replace it. He doesn't see any deeper value to people like most of us do, so when he replaces a close friend with a cat it's the same in his mind.
I think that's why he believes that Jasper and Kat are actually valid replacements for having other friends.
And that has always been his problem. He can only see what you can do for him and him only - whether that's reheating his Doordash or doing something that he finds value. For example, John Rambo carried his bags and was basically his pack mule. Once he moved, it was "Thank you, next." It's a tale as old as time in the snortex. I've mentioned this before: you're only good to Phil IF you can do something for him and him only. If you're not giving him money, you're a loser. If you're not helping him GET him money, you're a loser. Basically, if you're not helping him feed his addiction to gacha and DoorDash, you're pointless to have around. Phil has created his own personal hell based off of laziness and the shortest way to feed his addiction. This in turn has turned his mature adult condo into his personal prison and personal hell.
There was a quote I stumbled upon in a YouTube video that can easily be applied to Dave and it goes like this: "If you don't go through hell to create success, you will find out the hell creates itself later." If you REALLY think about it, Phil discovering YouTube and the internet at large is own personal hell. Not just him being an asshole to the FGC, but also to everyone that was either a former fan or detractor on the internet. Also, him being part of Machinima back in the day only boosted his already large ego, as he told Hutch back in the day that he wanted his videos featured once a week and didn't want to edit a damn thing, even as simple as dropping the Machinima intro into his videos - something that takes 8-10 seconds in something like Movie Maker back in the day - that was too much work for Phil.
He has no friends, no family, in a "marriage" he was pressured into going into, as he even admitted in passing he was pressured by his parents into doing, and he has no job prospects except doing what he's doing.
That said, this is what he wanted. He wanted to get away from his parents, he wanted play the e-thot handbook rule for rule, and telling himself over and over again that he is "successful". Sucks to suck.
