Tabletop Community Watch

Gundam is entering the tabletop wargame hobby with "Gundam Assemble." Looks like a cross between Battletech and Kill Team? Maybe?

I haven't watched this brand of Chinese Cartoon, but I do remember the latest series being swarmed by a bunch of 40 year old men who thought it had 13 year old lesbians in it, only to find out eventually that Japan likes to play a game where they pretend 13 year olds are lesbians to sell products to 40 year old men. No idea if the Gundam hobby is "colonized" by the flag bearers since then, but since the hobby costs money to be in, probably not.

Hex squares are unappealing. It's a board game with small figures.

Bandai have been release miniature size Gundam kits for a while now. They're badly designed and very fragile. They will break through normal play if the previews are anything to go by.

High grade rules would have been better.

Regarding the gundam minis, im casually optimistic because its bandai and they tend to throw shit to the wall to see what sticks. The models imo look good. Hopefully it requires a low number of units to play(skirmish?) Hopefully it does well because i wanna see my favorite mobile suit in the game and play them.

say that to someone who plays battletech and see what happens :story:

but seriously, hex grind is just a simplification and ease of access. most normalfags can't be arsed to pull out the ruler and argue about measurements, otoh if there's enough grog incentive you can always remove the grid and go all in.

it's a few decades old, so a few stinkers are inevitable. however there's a reason it's still popular. but even then you can still enjoy the music. and yes that's a real-life size gundam just because. probably secret military project, can't convince me otherwise

Will they ask me my pronouns before they get angry I disrespected their board game?

40k is the largest and most normalfag game and it uses rulers and measurement arguments.

the fuck have boardgames to do with pronouns?

You tell me.

90% sure the guy behind this was the one pretending to be trans so no one could throw him out of the "community" and was stalking Blaine Pardoe (to the extent he got restraining orders to help stop it).

Battletech is woke. Do you not remember the pronoun controversy? The game has build a bad reputation for it's modern player base being SJWs.

that's CGL, not battletech.
they also fucked up royally with shadowrun 6e, but at that point the company had been such a shitshow for so long people simply didn't care anymore and kept playing the old versions, there's already plenty of material out there that they don't need to constantly suck the company's cock like GW paypiggies do, and most 40k refugees either adapt or get laughed of the room. "modern" players don't really get into battletech because it's about autisticly smashing robots together, not MUH WARHAMMER (or in this case MUH LORE).

it's like claiming shadowrun is shit because they royally fucked up 6e. just like SR most players BT just don't give a fuck and keep playing their old game, there's already plenty of material out there that they don't need to constantly suck the company's cock like GW paypiggies do, and most 40k refugees either adapt or get laughed of the room.

The old guys are aging out or dead now. Battletech's current community is the pronoun crowd.

If this is vagueposting about the newest splat having a lesbian romance as one of the vignette beats that most RPGS start with, it's just a couple pages long and has nothing to do with the rest of the book. The rest of the book is effectively what you paid for. It also literally wouldn't be any different if you reframed it as a straight romance. And let's be blunt, mecha is known for its fujos and for homoeroticism in general.

The only reason it's getting shit on is due to that Pride Week garbage shilling it, and that was set up by the Tourists and Fake Activists, not the company itself.

Is it annoying? Can be, though it isn't garbage like the usual attempt to get the gays to open their wallets. Is it a dealbreaker? Personally I'd say no, though that might be because I've seen more annoying in TTRPG and I still don't mind those games for that. For example: Promethean the Created actually has fucking xe/xir bullshit. I just groan and ignore it since while cringe it makes sense for the setting and I can fucking ignore it in favor of all the things I like about the splat instead.

Paizo Director Of Games Attacks J.D. Vance Saying "No Space For Fascists In Our Game" And Blocks Conservative Pathfinder Players Who Call Him Out

Paizo once branded itself as an alternative to Dungeons & Dragons with its Pathfinder system, but the company is now blocking fans after its CEO was caught attacking J.D. Vance online and demanding the Vice President not play their games.

The original Dungeons & Dragons controversy came not from wokeism but from the shift from D&D 3.5 edition to 4th edition. The game was said to have been streamlined and simplified, with an attempt to make D&D feel more like the budding MMORPG market dominated by games like World of Warcraft at the time.

Paizo stepped in and made their Pathfinder game very similar to the feel of Dungeons & Dragons 3.5, which delighted players and created a dedicated cottage fanbase for their products.

However, this company embraced wokeism early on, signaling to evil LGBTQ lifestyles even more than Wizards of the Coast has done. They feature a “Pride Community Blog” on their website to push players into having games featuring disordered lifestyles. There are two characters, a disabled they/them bug creature and an asexual sorceress who are featured on the page.

According to one player, there is even a magic item in Pathfinder 2, the new edition, that you can only attune to if it’s returned to its ancestral land, apologizing for the harm it was subjected to, and make a promise to uphold its ideals in an anti-colonialism in-game rant.

Paizo came to attention after a post from the 2024 election went viral featuring their Director of Games lambasting J.D. Vance, who apparently is an avid TTRPG player and Pathfinder fan.

X user Thor Odinson posted a comparison of two tweets made by game designer Jason Bulhman that went viral showing how hypocritical the company is because of identity politics.

In 2020, Bulhman posted, “Gatekeeping in the TTRPG space is ridiculous. Our hobby is far too small to exclude anyone, no matter their experience or interest level. If you play games, you are a gamer. If you make games, you are a game designer. If you like games, you are welcome here.”

In 2024, however, he sang a different tune when he decided to gatekeep conservatives and Christians from Paizo prodcuts saying, “If Vance has played Pathfinder, I want him to send his books back. No space for fascists in our game.”

The creator doubled down after he was caught doing this, blocking anyone who criticized his post rather than apologizing for trying to gatekeep RPGs on behalf of his extreme leftist ideologies.

Thor Odinson received a block, as did former World of Warcraft lead developer Mark Kern, aka Grummz. It became a viral sensation last evening on X for tabletop gamers to try to speed run getting blocked by the developer and the Paizo business account proper.

Diversity & Dragons also did a video on the topic, letting gamers know about more instances of Jason Bullman’s wokeness. In 2020 he posted “We have an opening on our desing team at @Paizo! All are welcome to apply, but I want to encourage women and people of color to consider tossing your hat in the ring. I would love to see a big, broad swath of folk interested in joining the team!”

He was criticized for this as well but doubled down on the prospect.

Paizo has been at the woke game longer than Wizards of the Coast with their Dungeons & Dragons, and being the primary alternative competitor to new D&D, it seems they want to turn off gamers just as much as the juggernaut in the industry.

If I remember correctly since this is old news, the dumb motherfucker who's doing this is utterly defanged and only technically a part of the company. What happened was he got nearly thrown out when Paizo unionized. He only has that title out of sympathy and all of his post-union acts are just rubberstamps. Literally no power whatsoever in the company.

This was him desperately trying to cry out for relevance, likely because he's pissy about his lot in life. Oh and also so the mask is off for the least aware consumer. Oh, and that union that demolished his relevance and control? Wizards literally silver bulleted several paizo guys casually just after doing that and then sitting on them and not using them, proving said union was performative tard garbage that just makes firing worthless cunts like this guy harder.

So you know, I'd mock them if they are too retarded to throw him out, or if the union he got cucked by is dumb enough to support him even as they lose people who play and disagree with them, which is enough to be a concern given how fucking small this industry is.

Fuck DEI and all that, but I don't find that objectionable. Better than the various "we need to remove white men from this hobby!" things, this is just encouraging people to apply - I mean its dumb to hire based on skintone or chromosomes but whatever.
Of course its utter retarded to say that becasue if he's even remotely involved in the hiring or screening process and you aren't either of those things and don't get the job, you have immediate grounds for a discrimination lawsuit.

Also lol at that retarded redskin suckoff.

I had heard about paizo employees unionizing but totally missed WOTC poaching paizo staff, freaking hilarious.

Worker solidarity lasted only so long as the pay from another company being better than your comrades' options wasn't better. Wizards legit gave them noted bumps and has done nothing with them since, just because they could. It was fucking hilarious.

The only reason outfits like Coyote and Crow Games hasn't been hit for it is it's fine to espouse racial supremacy and discrimination if you aren't white.

In related comical news, if you want to know how and why they pissed away a million to make their bland World of Darkness bootleg; it wasn't due to embezzling. Nah, they were just retarded enough to buy office space on the Pacific Coast and eat rent costs. Same with proprietary dice and shit.

For those wondering, the only companies that have physical offices are Wizards and I believe White Wolf, and those were due to legacy methods. The others just use a PO box and only have meat space locations for shipment purposes, usually using middlemen to deliver. Just to describe how tiny the market is and to really tell you how much you can move the needle.

Oh, and if you can find a way to make a VTT for cheap? You have the chance to make it big as the next TTRPG company; Wizards can only spend as much as they can on it simply because they got lucky with Magic: Arena giving them money from paypigs. It gives them the reserves no one else really has.

Not kidding; the next age of TTRPG is going to be much more digital, and stuff like Baldur's Gate 3 really shows its innate draw and potential, especially if you have programs handle the math behind the calculations. Pencil and paper aren't as needed as just having the damn phone everyone has in meatspace.
