Ron DeSantis picks Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody to fill Marco Rubio's Senate seat231205-ashley-moody-ron-desantis-mn-1535-64b499.jpg
Moody, 49, has served as Florida attorney general since 2019, easily winning two statewide elections for the position.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed state Attorney General Ashley Moody to the U.S. Senate, setting her up to fill the seat of Sen. Marco Rubio, whom President-elect Donald Trump tapped to be secretary of state.

Rubio was selected to serve in Trump’s administration shortly after Trump won the 2024 presidential race, handing DeSantis a Senate appointment that is likely to have ripple effects across Florida government and politics.

Rubio believes Russia and Ukraine will have to make concessions to end war

It has widely been expected in recent weeks that Moody would be the pick, while others, including Reps. Kat Cammack and Cory Mills, did talk to DeSantis about the position. DeSantis had said publicly he had reservations about appointing a member of the House because of the GOP’s slim majority in that chamber.

State Sen. Jay Collins, who served as a Green Beret, also got considerable support from conservatives who wanted DeSantis to pick an military veteran.

But ultimately, the seat will go to Moody, 49, who easily won her first election in 2018 to become attorney general and her re-election bid in 2022. She was unable to run again due to term limits.

She will have to run in a 2026 special election to keep the seat for the final two years of Rubio's term. Mills has already said he is running for Senate in 2026, as first reported by Politico, and Cammack is mulling a run, meaning Moody is going to face Republican primary challengers.

Right now, though, her appointment will set a new record for Republican women in the Senate, according to data from the Center for American Women in Politics. When Moody takes the seat, there will be 10 GOP women in the chamber.

Moody is a close ally of DeSantis, who has served as his chief legal bulldog on a host of high-profile political fights with the Biden administration.

Most recently, Moody’s office, which is technically separate from the governor’s office, filed a lawsuit in October against the Department of Justice over what she argued was a federal government effort to block Florida’s own investigation into the second assassination attempt against Trump, which happened in September at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach.

“Every day that Florida is prevented from investigating, the State’s case becomes harder to prove at trial,” Moody argued in the suit. “By contrast, the federal government suffers no injury from Florida investigating state law crimes, as the State has no intention of interfering with or obstructing the federal investigation.”

DeSantis has said he believes the federal government had “stonewalled” Florida’s ability to conduct its own investigation.

Moody said the state’s independent investigation was needed, in part, because the DOJ should not have been investigating an attempted assassination attempt on Trump while simultaneously trying to prosecute him. Since Trump’s election victory in November, former special counsel Jack Smith, who was leading federal cases against Trump over whether he tried to overturn the 2020 election and over alleged mishandling of classified documents, has resigned, and those cases against Trump have ended.

In December, Moody also released an arrest affidavit for Ryan Routh, the alleged gunmen behind the second assassination attempt. She said a traffic backup that resulted from searching for Routh led to an accident that injured a 6-year-old girl. Routh is in federal custody and facing five charges related to the attempted assassination.

Earlier this year, the state attorney general also sued the Biden administration to try and block a rule Moody argued would have forced doctors to provide gender transition care against their judgement. Transgender issues have been one of the main culture war fights DeSantis has focused on as governor.

DeSantis had not signaled publicly who he would pick to fill Rubio’s seat, but has said the person will be a hard-liner on immigration, including pushing reforms to the so-called H-1B visa program, which has been the subject of intense internal post-election fights among Trump’s own supporters.

Trump-backers like billionaire tech mogul Elon Musk have said the program offers lower-cost international talent for many companies, while the populist wing of the MAGA movement, led by people like conservative pundits Steve Bannon and Laura Loomer, have said the program should be abolished.

Trump said in late December that he believes the program is “great.”

Moody’s pick is also likely to reshuffle DeSantis’ own political orbit.

It is widely believed that longtime DeSantis chief of staff, James Uthmeier, will now be appointed to fill Moody’s post, requiring that DeSantis select a new top staffer. Uthmeier served as the campaign manager for DeSantis’ failed 2024 presidential bid and is considered one of his closest confidants

Wrong on both. It was Woodrow Wilson far and away. This isn't even up for debate.
He (like Biden) was a vegetable for part of his administration due to a stroke and it was ran by his wife and others. Not that he wasn't terrible before that too.

The success of Emilia Pérez also felt like a middle finger to the incoming American president, who based on previous social media activity is an avowed Golden Globes follower.

Though perhaps the film’s appearance of Trump-baiting progressivism – It’s Mexican! It’s trans! – was always likelier to find backing among the Globes’ relatively small and international voting body than a newly politically cautious Hollywood.

it's a movie about a transgender cartel boss

Google is lying, they have included fact checking on their shit before. Youtube still shoved links to Wikipedia when you mention climate change or covid, and it even does much stupider shit like linking the Reagan assassination attempt on a video talking about US presidental assasination attempts when JFK and Trump were the main subjects or trying to push election "information" on videos about african elections rigged beyond a doubt and proven in courts of law for decades.

I'm just left wondering how did they ever have such control in the first place when you have such obnoxious douchebaggery.

Here Bill Burr is making fun of someone like me. Yes I have no idea of how to stop a massive fire I can laugh at myself. But then he ends "Oh I think they (California's government) did a great job." Really Burr, would you feel that way if your house was gone? Or what if you had a reason to say this was Trump's responsibility. Then I think they'd be crying that it was a total disaster. And this is a "comedy" show.
Burr is a proud ignorant mick NPC cattle who brags about only watching the news once every couple of weeks (and only liberal news) and having his liberal NPC friends in the same Hollywood bubble fill him in on anything else going on in the world.

Also Tiktok came to power because Vines died due to mismanagement and Tiktok both expanding the length of their videos from Vines's meager seconds length/buying via hostile takeover another Vines site that had a robust music licensing deal with the big labels, which meant you could post videos with popular music without fear of copyright strikes on Tiktok

Since Carrie Underwood is performing at Trump's inauguration, is she the Anti-Taylor Swift?
Underwood is Kelly Clarkson's shadow rival, not Swift.

I think what's going on is tech companies are signaling that they're way more afraid of US litigation than EU litigation.

He didn't use to be like this. Seeing him go down the Jimmy Kimmel route is heartbreaking.

It's literally a movie about a crime boss who killed fucktons of people abandoning his family and being religiously redeemed because he transitions.

Most big films over the past decade are nothing more than modern exploitation films.
Everything I've heard about this movie, including a whole plot summary, makes it sounds like a critical parody of transgenderism rather than an earnest promotion.

Personal vs corporate bankruptcy. You run up debt on the corporate side to increase your personal wealth/assets strip the corpo of it's assets and then declare bankruptcy leaving your personal assets untouched

Repeat as necessary.

This is like rich person 101. People like Mitt Romney literally do this for a living and it's retarded that people go "hurr durr guy worth 500 billion dollary doos is a loser because he declared bankruptcy 20 times!

Yes it's immoral and scummy but they have 500 billion dollars and you don't.

Take Dave Ramsey's cock out of your mouth, his advice is meant to keep you poor.
To be more exact... When you reach Trump level of wealth and debt, you basically shift the balance of power with the people who you owe money to. Think sunk cost fallacy.... The banks want their money back but if you end up doing the bad kind of bankruptcy that destroy and beggars you, they'll get nothing back because you literally can't pay them back.

So it's in the bank's best interest to keep you afloat, hence the good kind of bankruptcy that doesn't destroy/fully beggar you since this way, you at least get SOME of your money back. But it also gives the debt owner power too, to negotiate better payment plans and their debts interest lowered.

I got this YouTube stream playing at this exact moment.

My favorite myth is "If you declare bankruptcy you'll never get a credit card again. MUH CREDIT SCORE!"

Yes new score will be shit, but they will give a shit credit card and you then just build it back up.
Not true. You'll be forced to get a secure card, which is a glorified debit card where you have to put down $200-500 down plus fees to cover the card's available credit line and what you pay every month basically restocks your balance. Which is what credit card companies due to people with shitty credit scores who can't qualify for a credit card.

Every single thing he does before 1/20 Biden will take credit for. Every single thing. He'll take credit for every single thing until at least 1/1/26, too, but, before he actually steps into office? Every smug liberal on the planet is going to claim that Biden got Israel to stop killing poor innocent Brown people.
As much as I wish you were wrong and dumb I also realize this is sadly true.
That being said maybe Donald Trump when he gets inaugurated unbans TikTok I could see him using it as a win.
Interesting point about a candidate from the Rust Belt/South. Do you have any ideas as to whom that could possibly be?
My best guess is Gretchen Whitmer she's very popular with the Detroit area voters and so many people still think that muh right wing militas are totes trying to kidnap her still.
Grover Cleveland:
>elected into 2 non-consecutive terms
>has to deal with an economic depression for most of his second term, souring his reputation at the time

Donald Trump
>elected into 2 non-consecutive terms
<YOU ARE HERE
>has to deal with an economic depression for most of his second term, souring his reputation at the time

Uh MAGAbros, I don't feel so good. It doesn't help that many economic indicators tend to point towards the economy going down the shitter soon.
It's possible, however I also see this administration laxxing the dumb laws that the previous admin enacted to fix this shit.

Does the movie show the troon cartel boss :story: getting barbarously tortured to death through mutilation and rape, as would happen irl five minutes after it came back from axe wound surgery? Or would happen as soon as its underlings found out el jefe wanted an axe wound, which they would gladly give to it without the need for any medical doctors being involved

Well the problem is that.

It will open up questions for the Democrats as to why didn't they do this earlier or before the election.

Many of the folks on the Abandon Biden and Abandon Harris train were clear on wanting it done before election day. For them to then stop campaigning against the Democrats.

Not after it.

And Trump went around promising peace by inauguration day to the Arabs in Michigan.
IIRC Trump wants to come off as putting peace above personal glory, since he is aware of how much hell Reagan got timing the release of the Embassy hostages to happening sexos after he got sworn in.

This way Trump looks like the better and moral person, getting peace done before being sworn in and not caring if Biden tries to steal his thunder.

Those are the same things, though.

Men won both Best Actor and Best Actress at Cannes last year, lmao.

Honestly I feel like a good 50% (if not more) of the US population should be on that type of card.

I did my high school community service at a food bank. The illegal Mexicans working as volunteers would save anything that was decent and steal it for themselves, leaving basically nothing for the people who actually needed it.
And right out of college I worked at a local charity that was filled with corruption. The entire concept of charity feels tainted to me. The only kind of donating I would trust is donating to children’s hospitals
That kind of 'tax' is still much lower than what most charities take as administration costs, and it can't defeat the 10 for 1 donation. If you donate $100, and only $200 worth of food goes to people you actually want to help, it's a win.

Or you could volunteer, record their theft, and report them to the cops. Most places don't take well to outright charity theft/fraud, as in felony charges.
Mileage may vary depending on local law enforcement policy.
