Assuming what Nick is claiming is true, it's actually a possibility.What’s the over under on the judge throwing out the plea since Dick Lickeita is obviously indicating that he’s plea’ing out against his will?
He sounds like he truly believes he’s innocent so it’d be legally and ethically irresponsible to let him plea to something that’s not true in his mind.
Nick says he was ready to plead guilty at his settlement conference but the judge refused until a later plea hearing saying he wanted to ask Nick questions. Such questions are technically standard, but the settlement conferences have had courtrooms booked out in case they need to put something on the record (such as a plea). There is in principle no reason why he couldn't have plead guilty when he was prepared to at the settlement conference.
It's possible that the judge expects some complications.
