Nintendo Switch (Currently Plagued) - Here we shit post about the new Nintendo console, The Switch

I almost restrained myself for thinking that the Nintendo Switch 2 was doing what Apple did with their recent releases of the iPhone. Then, I happened to see rumored leaks of the NS2 being able to play Red Dead Redemption 2, Cyberpunk 2077 and GTA V (just to name a few).

Now I’m thinking, “Don’t we have the Valve Steam Deck for that?”

I feel like the soul has left Nintendo since Iwata-san died :( I wonder if Switch 2: Switch Harder will have actual themes instead of the boring minimalist menu the current Switch has? Will they continue with Miis for character creation? Where's the fucking whimsy??
Died when the Wii U was a trash fire. Iwata made the Switch. Even he was like ‘yeah, the way we were doing whimsy just was not working’
Now I’m thinking, “Don’t we have the Valve Steam Deck for that?”
Yes. But people will actually buy Switch 2.

>Nintendo console has weak third-party support
<“umm WOW it can’t even play my favorite third-party games it’s so bad :smug:
>Nintendo console has strong third-party support
<“umm WOW why are they talking about third-party games don’t they have anything of their own??? :smug:

Switch 2 has the potential to be more than just another console or a sequel to the switch, it could signal the end of high-end consoles.

50% of PSN users are still on the PS4 and, 5 years into this generation, they have made it clear that they are happy with PS4 level graphics. To put that in to context, there are as many PS4 users still playing on that console as there are PS5 consoles sold in five years.

If Switch 2 has third party support and brings across Japanese genres and devs long abandoned by Sony, then Nintendo will sweep up. If they do, and add another 100 million users to the Switch series of handhelds, then the industry will adjust to the 'medium' level power that consoles were traditionally known for, leaving the high-end to the PC.

IF this happens, Sony and Microsoft will be dead in the water. I hope it happens. Fuck Sony.

Nintendo got so burned by the consequences of the WiiU branding and its failure to communicate that it was a new console that they are going full normalfag with the naming scheme so as to make it as clear as possible this is a new thing. It is the iPhone strategy: same logo, one number up from the previous model. They do not want to confuse average Joanne Grandma when Christmas comes around.

Wonder how long it'll take for people to make a Switch 2 Emulator

A PS4 emulator for example is still in the early stages and the Switch 2 is like a PS4 in terms of power.
PS4 is a bit of a special case because it's effectively just an x86 SBC with a unified memory pool. It runs a modified version of FreeBSD under the hood iirc. PS4 emulation is more a matter of virtualizing x86 (easy on any processor made after 2010) and writing a translation layer for the graphics calls. That's why even literal toasters with 1060s and 8th gen intel CPUs are getting good perf out of it.

Switch 2 also probably won't be that hard. Due to the growing popularity of ARM, ARM<->x86 translation is well-understood and there's a ton of existing high-quality code to do it. Cycle-accurate Switch emulation would be hard but HLE would be trivial based on the existing switch emulator codebases.

If you're buying digital anyway and don't care for Nintendo releases, there's zero reason to own a Switch. Handheld PCs are already scooping up the people who bought Switch just to play indies.

Only reason I'm interested is because I like Nintendo first-party games. Those will be pretty much the only things I'll buy on it though.

Aside from Normies and Nintendo cucks, I'm failing to see how the average gamer is going to see any value in the Switch 2, when they could purchase a Steam Deck or any other handheld PC and be given a bigger catalog, more features, and the ability to emulate shit including this new console. @Nick Gars summed it up perfectly, the Switch was unique in 2017 but now there's just so much choice on the market, and I can get a PC in my hands for the same or less cost. I feel we've really stagnated in terms of innovation, so shit like this shouldn't be a surprise, but in like less than 6 months when this thing hits the market I (should) be able to play new Switch 2 games on any device I feel like. So what's the real value of this? Just feels like the Wii U Electric Boogaloo.

Cause the average gamers do not have a Steam Deck and are in fact normies.

The average gamer just wants to play Mario. Infact them being able to play 3rd party games on the same machine will be a huge plus for them. They're not going to drag two machines with them everyday when they go out. They're going to pick the machine that lets them play exclusive Nintendo titles natively while also having strong 3rd party support. That's how the console market has worked since the very beginning. PCs are their own market.

As someone who could very well do that I'll explain why I'm not going to
- Physical releases
- Physical releases
- The switch is smaller and lighter
- Better battery life
- Physical releases
- I don't have time to fuck around with hacking in emulators on the Deck, and I like my Metroid
- Did I mention physical releases?

If a deck 2 comes out that has better ergonomics and not be a "mobile" equivalent of the OG Xbox Duke controller I just might consider it for PC games. But when I need my Metroid or Smash fix I want shit to just work when I put in the cartridge. Thank you for listening to my TEDx talk

I'm impressed that a non-trailer that contains almost no new info and changes nothing was more than enough to put the thread into a depression spiral.

but what was I expecting

You download, like, one thing in Desktop Mode and follow some really simple instructions to make any ROMs/ISOs/what have you launchable from the Steam client.

Not to mention PrimeHack works great on the Deck.

I don't know why there needed to be a second Nintendo thread. They fact it was created in Prospering Grounds clearly shows the OP is retarded.
There's already two! There's a general Nintendo thread populated entirely by the same people who post here and its totally random which of the two is active at any given time.

While I see your point, there seems to be a growing appetite for PC gaming in general, people I know who used to be consolefags for the longest time getting themselves into this space. To play your PC library on the go, while also having the advantage of emulators, seems to make this console useless. I understand that emulators require set up, and for most normies they probably don't want to go through that effort, but there's some that may. That some is still a fairly large portion who would consider buying a Switch, and it is growing. I am probably looking at this biased since I have never really been into consoles myself, but I feel this industry is starting to crack with PC gaming being more appealing as the years roll on.
