McCarthy was not correct about the level of direct Soviet infiltration. Where he went wrong was accusing a ton of people, including very powerful people, of being Soviet spies. What he was right about, though, was that the Venona Papers made it clear that the Soviets wanted to infiltrate the US. He also caught onto how many people in the US were sympathetic to the Soviets and to communism in general.

What ultimately did him in is he began accusing military officials of being Soviet spies. That's when Eisenhower had enough of the guy.

Yep McCarthy was right about the generalities and the big picture but got it wrong on the actual details. Soviets actually liked this as it allowed them to point anyone (correctly) pointing out infiltration of being paranoid right wingers. If he had taken a step back and gone slower, putting more thought into each acusation instead of blanket machine firing into crowds history would have gone a lot different. People forget that around the time McCarthy got big Alger Hiss and Charles Dexter White had just been exposed as USSR sympathizers who would later be revealed were full double agents and these were super high up on FDRs cabinet.

True, America's original sin, to the extent it has one, is undermining its own citizens with cheap labor. Slavery was a subset of that, but also things like indentured servitude and a good chunk of the various immigration waves was about bringing in more people for cheap labor. I don't think either have a good chance at the Governorship or Senate Seat.
Vivek is a big pharma guy who supports immigrants taking your jobs, which isn't going to play well with Ohioans who the lost manufacturing jobs and family members to the addiction his ilk bring (not to mention he's not Christian).
Husted is too tied to DeWine and is known to be bought and paid for by First Energy. But, in two more years, voters will probably only care about what he did in the Senate. He probably won't be very MAGA though, and like DeWine will support Hatians who eat cat and dogs and are taking American jobs.
MAGA primary challengers just need to be pro American worker and anti-immigrantion to beat people like Vivek, and Husted, and beat Sherrod Brown and Tim Ryan who the Dems will certainly renominate.

I'm surprised by the suggestion of Husted for the senate seat, he was supposed to be DeWine's eventual replacement. To be honest, who in Ohio politics isn't bought and paid for by First Energy, because DeWine is too. Never ask if an Ohio politician is corrupt, the answer is always yes, just ask if they're competent. Frank LaRose, the Secretary of State, was in the primary for Brown's seat, and he wouldn't be a bad pick for it.

Husted at the very least doesn't have schools in Haiti, and he did break with DeWine some over the COVID lock downs. I'll wait to start internally screaming about Vivek, depends on where Trump stands on it, I will not vote for street shitter. I think it's at least confirmation that his Twitter rant has gotten him exiled from Trump's court. I agree though, I don't think Vivek really has a chance, Husted maybe. Yost or LaRose would be better picks for either position. Still, I figured DeWine would pick Matt Dolan for maximum RINO.
