Nuclear subs and Aircraft Carriers are modern marvels of engineering and warfare, and we shouldn't abandon them without something better deployed first. I'm just speculating about what FUTURE technology will look like, say in 2050.
In the next 30 years, submarine drones will probably be cheaper and outperform conventional manned subs, just because it's very expensive and difficult to keep people.
Technology is increasingly eliminate humans from the loop, and going remote control or the AI route. There are certain problems with vehicles in a military situation that drones solve. By removing the need to keep a human occupant safe by creating a a drone, it becomes cheaper, can be much more compact, more effective, and can be expendable.
