I got the impression he did the SNL thing because of Grimes and they did it together as some sort of "cute couple activity" but I didn't read enough about it to understand it fully nor do I find the Mario/Luigi references funny whatsoever (that's just my personal opinion though).

I've heard lots of claims about the government handouts but haven't read enough into it personally to understand the depth of it. Do you have any good links (preferably written, I ain't gonna watch a 2 hour video about that kind of thing)? I don't personally see a huge problem with companies utilizing government programs in the first place. It depends what the company does, how many people they employ and what they contribute to society - if he's meaningfully advancing the space race and electric cars and science with government grants and not enriching himself entirely by just abusing the fuck out of them then I don't see a problem with it (again, I'm not well read in this area so I don't know whether he abuses the fuck out of them).

lol he was just on stage with Trump. I'm surprised he didn't immediately devolve into a full-on spergout about how "great" he is at Diablo and PoE 2 followed by dissing asmonfag before speedwalking off stage while holding back tears

It's probably fleeting, but right now I just felt a slight bit of sympathy for Elon: If you're going to be worth $400 billion dollars, you had better have a superb sense of when you are right and when you are wrong, because you won't be able to trust anyone on Earth to tell you the truth. It's probably very easy to get very out of touch with reality, as Elon clearly has.

The whole thing is really strange, it's so hard to figure out why he would give a shit. That being said, taking for granted that he's rich and powerful, leads companies involved in all the classic futurist tech and more or less personally owns one of the major communication and news platforms of our time, and now has an in with the president: it's maybe more comforting that he clearly cares what people think. Normally you'd expect people in his position not to, but is that not kind of the problem? Or maybe the problem actually just is that someone with the emotional maturity of DSP is running this shit...

Biggest issue I can see is just that twitter is a global platform, and there's no reason to think that on issues he personally doesn't care about he won't just drift toward whatever consensus emerges on there; American politics under better circumstances would not countenance such smells. I guess we'll find out soon enough what actual role he has in government.

I'm surprised he hasn't bribed Trump to say something/tweet something about Elon's Diablo gameplay by now. Eh, guess it's something we can look forward to during the midterm elections, when the Republicans need some of Elon's money.
