It went platinum despite Michael protesting his record label at the time and getting very little promotion as a result. There are some amazing tracks (Break of Dawn, Butterflies, Speechless, You Are My Life, You Rock My World,) but there are 16 goddamn songs on one album. It has this weird sound that isn't like the other R&B and pop at the time, so it doesn't sound right, but then when you listen to the 2010s dubstep trend music and go back and listen to Invincible you can hear where it was clearly this step in that direction, so it's like an album out of time that released years too early and also too late (because it was in development hell for a long time.)
It's not a bad album or anything, but it's contentious. Not one of his best, I don't think.
