Severe Weather outbreaks

In case people think the featured Los Angeles Fire is your standard Californian fare, it isn't.

Burn, Hollywood, Burn.
This shit happens every few years. Yes, all those suburban hills burn every now and then. It's nothing compared to the monster fires that PG&E sets off in Northern California, like the ones that are so big they spawn supercell thunderstorms that spread the fire more with their winds and lightning and produce fucking fire tornadoes.

Central Texas getting hammered by much needed rain! Could do without the 35 degree high, though. Ground will probably ice up, after the next front tomorrow.

Gonna be fun if Atlanta gets snow. I remember the last time they got 1 inch. The entire city melted down.
I ended up driving north into Atlanta with the snow Friday. Surprisingly relaxed driving, everyone slowed down to 30-45, and I passed multiple plow crews. I saw one guy round about ATL airport who slid into a center wall but slow enough I didn't see any major damage. Otherwise no accidents which is rare in good weather. Seems to already be thawing pretty well.

Models are calling for 4-5 inches in much of Louisiana and less [but still significant considering the affected region] in Mississippi, Alabama and a sliver of Georgia. That ought to be fun to deal with for our Dixiebros, I live where snow is a very regular occurrence and people here still fucking forget how to drive in it after six months of warm temperatures. But hey, at least it isn't an ice storm.

Up here we're just getting wonderful wind chills down to -25F and everybody is acting like it's never happened before, cold enough to cause frostbite to exposed extremities in 30 minutes or less. It's not exactly going to be warm down south either and I would assume most of the people there won't have heat tape since it's almost never necessary.

And Southeast Texas! It's insane, I don't think Louisiana's had snow like this since...2010? Like, real, sticking-to-the-ground snow..Thankfully it's a mostly flat region, but there's a lot of snow, and no snow-removal. And this is going to be ice.
The steepest bridge in Louisiana is still frosted over, and I'm surprised there aren't any accidents.

My family on the Mississippi Gulf Coast have already received at least 5 inches of snow. The beaches are covered with it.

The Florida panhandle is starting to receive some snow as well. Not as many car accidents as you would think that there would be. All of the businesses there are closed though.

It's actually turning out worse than forecasted. Blizzard warnings in TX through LA.. New Orleans has ~10-12 inches on the ground in and near the city. Friend watching someone with a plow driving the highways around the area pulling out drivers and cops.. Rush hour and the highways are thankfully empty. From New Orleans to Pensacola, FL is going to get about ~10-12 inches. Then from the southeastern-eastern half of Georgia, all the way up through outer-eastern areas of SC and NC will get 6-8, with some areas maybe getting even more. It is and was snowing almost ~100 miles out into the gulf. Insane. The water temp is still probably in the upper 70s-80s. People having to clear snow off of gas and oil rigs in the gulf. Air travel pretty much shut down because no airports have snow removal equipment. Roads and highways closed too for the same reasons.

Then the same arctic cold front is bringing us up north -0 temps. Tonight it's going to get into the minus double digits without windchill here in the great lakes area. (tonight my windchill is going to be <-20) I'd rather have the snow.. Those numbers are nothing up here where i am.. The super cold is less fun.

I remember the freak inch and half snow storm back like ~10 years ago in the NC area.. where 8 lane highways were shut down for days with cars bumper to bumper, abandoned. Schools with shelter in place orders 12-16 hours. lol This is like an order of magnitude worse, and in a place even less prepared!

They are calling it a once in a lifetime event. We thought the last two winter storms were pretty far south.. nature be like "hold my beer" The most amazing part is that it isn't just the gulf states, it's the southern half of them, going well out to sea! With temps in the low 20s.

I’m at the very bottom of Alabama, near Florida. I’ve never seen snow down here before.I know it snowed years ago, before I was born. I’ve seen pictures my parents have of it, but it was nothing like this. No where near as much. Closest I’ve ever seen to snow here was some sleet and a freeze where everything was iced up. That was pretty nasty though and wasn’t anything like this. This is some of that real snow, the soft fluffy kind. I’ve never really seen snow before, I saw a bit of it when I went to the mountains as a toddler but it wasn’t much and I don’t remember it very well. This is honestly amazing, absolutely love it. Very pretty, very fluffy, lots of fun. 10/10 Had a great day. Wouldn’t want to live somewhere where this happened all the time though, would definitely get sick of it fast. A lot of places are closed down because people can’t get to work. I live out in the middle of nowhere so we can’t really go anywhere in this anyway. Most people around here can’t drive in this. A least a lot of people got a day off work.

I lost power. Currently huddled in too many blankets with a furnace hooked up to a generator by me. Earlier the heat died and the repair guy got here after I lost power. Think I'll be okay, gennie's full of gas and I have it sheltered outside. Good luck, kiwi bros dealing with this.

Currently laughing at the thought of all of those snowbirds in Florida watching in horror as the very snow they flee from every year has found them at long last. Revenge: best served cold.
I know a guy that looked at the temps this week and decided dragging a generator around just to get equipment started didn't sound like fun. He left on Saturday for his rental in the Panhandle. He 100% deserves not messing around in the bitter cold for a week, but that's not gonna stop me from giving him an unending amount of shit for not taking his snowplow with him.

Oh crap.. sorry to hear.. Are you in the south or north? That kind of thing tends to happen a lot in sub zero temps for some reason.. heat problems. Make sure to run water off and on throughout the night until heat comes back. Also leave them drip. You DO NOT want the pipes freezing.. a good way to get a free waterfall in you living room or something. And potentially a whole lot of ice.

Thoughts and prayers.
