Final Fantasy XIV - Kiwi Free Company

Goddamn, even their QA is slipping. You never saw this in any of the prior expansions.
I actually have run into untranslated lines on the rare occasion.

In Stormblood. Specifically during the Sui-no-Sato quests.

I think I got hit with it once again in another spot well after this, but I never took a screenshot of it.

Isn’t this the third translation fuck up to happen in DT? I remember there was a scene where Gulool Ja was hacking into the computer and the text had a spelling/grammar issue. And another where the translation mixed up some location names. I understand translation goofs happen once in awhile especially with this game’s behemoth of a script but at this point it’s obvious the translators are genuinely incompetent.
Yeah, Wuk Lamat mixes up the zone of the giants in her Dawnspeaker acceptance speech.

I'd argue that there are probably other translation errors, as there were more than a few instances where things did not read right to me and had that like 90s vibe of fan translation syntax to it.

This just looks like, again, a lack of oversight from senior leadership and too much trust being placed on recently promoted folks. Given that the game is allegedly bleeding subscriptions and that there isn't 2 projects for BU3 to be working on concurrently it's no surprise things are getting cleaned up.

It’s a story-focused game with a lot of reading.
I am a big fan of those so that's appealing.
up until the recent expansion.
Dawntrail I assume, judging by those reviews I should stay clear of that. Ah wait a second, I remember people in another thread (I think) talking about a certain character from that expansion that was both obnoxious but had an obnoxious voice actor ("If you don't like my work you're a BIGOT" type of person).
Also heard the story took a nosedive too with that expansion.
There’s side content you can get sucked into, like fashion, fishing, mahjong, housing, etc.
I have heard...things, horrifying and beautiful in nature, things where time seems to evapora-yeah I can't write but again I've heard a bunch of crazy shit people get up to that's practically unheard of in other MMOs, at least to the same extent.
I don’t believe there’s a Kiwi FC. I doubt many would want that additional breakdown in online privacy, and we’d all probably hate each other, but it would be pretty funny.
I would imagine, lol. I mainly ask because I fucking hate playing with randoms within the last half decade or so.
And honestly, once the native troon population heard about it they'd do everything they could to destroy it. It's honestly better to coordinate via Cross World Link shells and the like rather than have a massive target like an FC.
I figured, which is for the best not to have it as pretty much anywhere that isn't here that Kiwifarms is mentioned in anything but a negative light it's like naming Voldemort.
There currently is dumb shit happening in the sense that the latest expansion has been a trashfire story-wise with the new writer's OC taking up a huge majority of the new storyline and the same OC's tranny VA called everyone racist for not liking the main vocal track.
Ah, yup, there it is. Exactly what I heard.
There's a noticeable change in the lead writers between the base game and the first two expansions (everything included in the free trial) generally being more focused on worldbuilding and the history of the various regions, and the 3rd and 4th expansions (past the free trial up until this latest one) being more focused on characters and plot
I can see that as a good thing when combined all together, well aside from any poorly made writings such as Dawntrail it seems.
If you're more into the idea of MMOs as a world to hang out and do quests in rather than the hardcore minmaxing shit most MMOs actually turn into, you can ignore the larping catgirl trannies in player centres, and you don't mind sitting through cutscenes, I'd say the trial is worth a shot.
I mean, I'm not at all against the world being what amounts to a giant interactive chat room so long as that chatroom is utterly cancerous. And hardcord minmaxxing nonsense is another reason why I mostly avoided MMOs all this time so that's a plus. Larping catgirl troons are a put off but if I can mute them somehow that'll be great. And I'm not a certian Doomer retard who can't handle cutscenes.
Dont worry they tend to stick to their shit corners unless youre a certain Race or you wonder in some populated areas that are hotspots
I can guess, but I'm not worried. Humanity, fuck yeah. Anyway, thanks for all the replies, will give it a shot. Shame I have no friend who play this or...anything I find interesting but I hope there's some semi-decent people to talk with.
If we said half of the things in this thread ingame, we'd be banned.
Also, how bad are the jannies and censorship? Is it "sneeze wrong and we ban you" or "don't hurt other people's feefees." It's never more relaxed than the latter.

Eh people can be fragile and at times can be aversed to friendly advice. Toxic positivity is how i would describe the community or atleast the interactions i sometimes find myself in. Youll see that most of the time people stick with "o/" as a greeting and stay silent while doing dungeons and such. Personally just play the game and get a feel for what you like and i think there should be something to your liking. Lastly youll see us here occasionally narrate a story usually involving some dumb fucking tank that doesnt have tank stance because hes a fucking retard or the hillbilly red mage that refuses to use raise cause he aint a support.

As long as you aren't out and out going 'you fucking scrub kill yourself' you should generally be fine. I've been pretty 'rude' or 'toxic' towards deserving folks and nothing has yet to come of it.

And as for recommendations for playing? Try the free trial and see if it suits you. If it doesn't it probably won't appeal.

I do generally agree, I only mention the change in writing because a lot of people jump in after hearing that it's greatest emotional story of all time or whatever then get frustrated when the first 50 hours is diplomacy and fetchquests. And there are some parts that are genuinely paced like ass (looking at you, 2.x story patches).

Not only can you mute them, you can blacklist them so their avatar won't even appear. People only really congregate in a few areas anyway.

The overworld questing is designed around singleplayer, and while there is mandatory content that involves 4 and 8-man teams, they've gradually been adding NPC support for solo players there as well. It is more fun with other players, though, and most of the time people are pretty chill and communication is barely necessary.

To add on to this, don't talk about people's dps in group content, that's almost a guaranteed ban. If shit isn't getting done sometimes it's easier to just leave and eat the 30 minute penalty to queue again. But yeah, as long as you're not talking about Total Tranny Death or telling people to neck themselves it's usually fine. Standard behave like you're in polite company rules apply.

For side quests, if no one has mentioned it yet, after you hit 50, the Manderville quests are great. I'd even argue the Post-Moogle quests are fun.

Nah, most of the shittalking I've done in game has been around DPS, particularly with healers sitting on their asses doing nothing.

They can try to accuse you of running DPS meters (I don't usually) but all it takes is looking at the cast bar or the healer's animations to see what they are/aren't doing.

There's a few jobs I'm not too expert on, but generally you can tell if someone is deadweighting.

And again, as long as you aren't telling people to 41% themselves in Minecraft you're fine.

It only veers into bannable territory if you're being like XBox Live circa 2007 Gamer talk or if you're insisting on someone do something a certain way. Pointing things out and 'providing advice' malds them considerably but there's nothing they can do.

Nothing is better than bombarding them with actual advice only for them to report you and realize you cant ban actual advice on a class.

Reminds me of that one Samurai that i told to start with Higanbana(damage over time skill) and he told me that the skill didnt do damage so he didnt used it and that i shouldnt tell him how to play the class(Im a SAM main)

it's not as bad as everyone likes to make it out to be (usually) but you shouldn't stick around there for long periods because it's where people hang out due to the market board being in close proximity to the aetheryte.

I recommend picking one of the Uldah classes to start with.
Thaumaturge looks interesting.

According to Yoshi-P they are working on a few games. One of them is most likely a remaster of FF Tactics. Another game might explain what Ishikawa is doing.

It’s pretty good to be careful though. I’ve told people to “stop larping” when they’ve done their shitty little cringe roleplaying before, but even that made me think about it for awhile.
Thanks again for the feedback everyone, I've decided to give the free trial a go soon and will keep you posted if you folks are interested.
For a free trial it’s of pretty high quality, issues with the base game aside. Plus once you finish it, you get to the best expansion. (Shadowbringers)
