Sony hate thread

People with power are going over all the games in development and any that look too much like Concord or costed too much to be able to make profit is getting canned.
More likely the coke has finally run out and they've all woken up and realized GaaS games are a money black hole (especially when you actively forbid your development teams from filling them with coombait).

If they were after games that look like Concord they'd cancel Ghost of Yotei, Cuckmann's next humiliation ritual and Wolverine, or at the very least make major changes concerning the content.

Either way they're fucked, God alone knows how much money they've burned on this retarded venture.

its much easier to just make single-player games
Don't bet on that, Sony singleplayer games cost as much as a Disney blockbuster, if not more, easily crossing into the $300 million budgets, and then struggle to break even, let alone make a profit.

thats the problem, if these companies were willing to sacrifice things such as graphical fidelity in order to get games out the door they would have a much easier time, most people would be fine if they went back to 6th/7th gen graphics.

I mean games that look like they share Concord's characteristics, not just appearance. 40$ premium, too much time in development and still sucking, playtesters/public disliked/mocked the game, devs with huge egos that do not take criticism etc etc. If Sony truly spent 400.000.000$ on Concord and ended up with 25.000 sales on ALL platforms after 8 years of dev time (which were refunded), they might be might be more careful now. Not careful enough but they are going to keep a closer eye to the "Professors" that might be lurking in their ranks.

Perhaps this is karma finally catching up to Sony and biting them in the ass for pushing Sega out of the console business and almost doing the same thing to Nintendo back in the PS1/PS2 days. I seriously doubt Sony will survive after the PS6 unless they turn their brand into a multiplatform "gaming service" like Xbox is doing.

It's wild how much Sony has refined their formula, only to shit the bed in a desperate ploy for more money. The FTC trial explicitly showed that their strategy for the longest time was:
1) Produce $60 singleplayer formulaic game that is loaded with spectacle
2) Lure normies over to the Playstation platform to play these spectacle games with paid awards and reviews
3) Normies finish the spectacle games after 20-30 hours, immediately go back to playing their normiecore MTX-loaded GaaS (CoD, Fortnite, Apex, NBA2k, FIFA, etc)
4) Normies spend hundreds of hours in their normiecore and spend hundreds of dollars on MTX but they are doing it on the Playstation platform, so Sony gets a 30% cut

That was it, that was all they were doing and it was working wonders. They made like $1.5 billion in 2021 alone just from their cut of the CoD MTX. They didn't care if their $100-150 million spectacle games didn't break even and lost $50 million because those games were loss leaders, they drove the normies to their platform and in return they'd make substantially more from their cut of the pie.

Microsoft decided to buy one of these normiecores (COD) and the Insomniac leak showed that Sony outright called it a nuclear threat. So they went full tilt on making GaaS so they can be directly at the source of the money well for more money but also to prevent Microsoft from buying those money wells and preventing Sony from having access to them. Microsoft burned $69 billion to buy a company that earns like ~$1.5-2 billion a year in net income but is slowly circling the drain.

This generation was just a series of blunders as two of the three console companies raced to the bottom while the third guy won by just making games on a shitty ipad.

Help me understand this because to me, it sounds like Sony made $1.5bn from their cut of CoD mtx but Actiblizz (at the time of the MS acquisition?) was only generating ~$1.5-2bn annually which not only sounds low, but impossible if the first figure is to be believed.

Revenue is not the same as net income. Sony was upstream, collecting a cut from the revenue source, while ATVI has to pay for various expenses. The ATVI revenue from "in-game, subscription, and other revenues" was $6.492 billion. However they accrued numerous costs as the "Cost of revenues-- in-game, subscription, and other:" includes "Game operations and distribution costs" for $1.215 billion and "Software royalties and amortization" for $107 million. Their other big expenses were $1.337 billion for "product development" and $1.025 billion in "sales and marketing".

Overall the ATVI total revenues for 2021 was $8.803 billion while their total expenses amounted to $5.544 billion. They had an operating income of $3.259 billion while a net income of $2.699 billion after taxes and debt.

Reflector Entertainment CEO Herve Hoerdt posted this statement on Linkedin, stating that because Unknown 9 Awakening was indeed a failure (even though it already failed months ago due to terrible sales), an in-progress game project has been cancelled, more layoffs will be happening, and devs will be moved to an unnamed Bandai Namco IP, probably to make it shit:

Shuhei Yoshida Says He Was Surprised Horizon Forbidden West Sales Weren’t Better
Genuinely can't think of a more astroturfed franchise than Horizon. None of them realise the only thing that people care about from the first game was the robo-dinos.
on paper there was plenty of potential for horizon, but the way it was marketed by the second game I doubt much people cared anymore.
