General Wrestling Discussion

I can't see you being set up for long-term success if you're founded by a guy who's famous for using dildos as weapons and trying to cancel everyone who doesn't like him, and booking the meth head who went to jail for bank robbing because he got on TV.
GCW was carried for a long time by Joey Janella and his feud with Ricky Shane Page, both whom did everything possible to move on from the company. Nick Gage relapsing multiple times didn't help matters and despite his rep, did bring eyes to it. Effy is 100% a dead-end choice, but they did it to themselves. Any young prospect they could have pushed has moved elsewhere; if it be AEW, TNA, NWA, fuck even MLW or DPW. Whereas the misfits who haven't been hired elsewhere are either too old, too drugged up or just jaded. Oh and Tony Deppen. Who is too good to be in that shit show, but hey.

There's a bunch of travel disruption effecting Dynamite tonight so expect one of the best episodes they've put on in months as random people are just sent out there to put on the best possible matches they can rather than having to work with whatever boring bullshit TK had planned for the show.

Hopefully all of the Death Riderzzzzzzzzz are snowbound for the next few weeks.

idk I listened to Kenny cut that "Number One and Number Two" promo before the Callis faggotry started and all I could think of was this

Thank fuck they have gone back to Battlecry for Omegas entrance music because the Final Fantasy thing only really worked at Wrestle Dynasty so far. It's not punchy enough for TV.

Also, they might be leaning into him coming back as a heel/cocky tweener which is where he does his best work.

And Private Partys dogshit tag champ run is over after a squash match. I don't even think they are bad workers but they are yet another example of the AEW fans glomming onto midcard/upper midcard talent and being far more interested in the chase than the reign.

Hopefully Lashley and Shelton can put a bit of prestige on the belts so they actually mean something when they eventually drop them to whoever.

Ever since he returned, Kenny Omega looks absolutely miserable on camera, I think he knows he's in a sinking ship and wants to go out as soon as possible.
I feel kinda bad for him. From what I've heard of the fallout from the CM Punk stuff, it seems like he really thought he could put himself out there as a mediator and smooth shit over for the good of the program, and the other prominent people in that locker-room basically threw it back in his face. Might have been a bit of a revelation that the whole 'by the boys, for the boys' thing was self-serving bullshit.

apparently Mania tickets are on sale later this month, cant afford to travel to Vegas but its gonna be a good time for anyone who does, I have a feeling Punk and Cody main event Night 2.

now that I can agree with

Definitely had a “Get me the fuck outta here” look on his face.

This YouTube video has some good info on it.
Omega even mentions that he and Punk are on good terms.

I bet he goes for the Gold Watch run in the fed as soon as he gets done with the dub. Run the gamut, Main Event Mania, have those matches with Seth. Retire on a high note.

I am incredibly skeptical he'd get remotely close to main eventing a Wrestlemania.
this, hes older then Cody even, hes clearly not the hot commodity he was when AEW started, plus I doubt hes going to be wrestling for that much longer anyway, sure Punks older than that but at least he has a history with WWE, consider Jacob Fatu who is 8 years younger, he has a far greater chance of Main Eventing Mania (maybe even Mania 42 in 2026) then Kenny, its simply more time to have a proper career in WWE.

That and he has no real prior history with WWE. I can't think of anyone (Sting, maybe?) who did anything high level at a Wrestlemania who wasn't a celebrity.

Also, he's fucking broken down. No disrespect to him but I don't think he can put in the hours needed to 'earn' his spot. If anything he'd get the Ultimo Dragon treatment, which I think is about appropriate for him.

Kenny could easily get a job being a producer or a trainer in NXT if he chose to retire

It was Konnan that said she cheated.

I think some of Russo's work in TNA is a bit underrated too. A lot of it was stupid and trashy, but it was entertaining.

I feel like his best stuff is this Jerry Springeresque trashy stuff that's just a little retarded. When he's left to his own devices like in WCW, it goes beyond a little retarded and gets hard to watch.
The chief good thing about Russo is that he cared about the undercard and tried to make sure everyone got used. Now sometimes it meant really garbage gimmicks but in general a lot of guys like Russo because he at least tried to make sure everyone was being used and that the undercard mattered just as much as the top card.

Cardona really had something good going upon winning the GCW title in such a rabid environment and I still don't get why they rushed taking it away from him and onto Moxley, when Jon would end up disappearing again for months on end. His injury shortly after killed his momentum and while I commend GCW for attempting something with the GM role, it didn't elevate anyone involved nor get the reactions he likely had hoped for.

I wish him well in ROH, but he REALLY needs to move on from GCW as his side hustle. If he was adamant on being a focus point and wants to keep himself in ring-shape, now would be the perfect time for him to start a new super indie. Plenty of AEW and ROH names that he could easily use from Khan, atop of the many students from Myers school looking to break into the scene.
Two stories have floated about why they aborted the Cardinal run

1. One is that Nick Gave put a bounty on Cardinal with the boys to main/disfigure/cripple him because he hated Cardona and pissy that Brett put the belt on him even though Cardona was helping them get sponsors and angel investors to fund their expansion. So Matt's run was aborted and Moxley beat him for the belt purely because he was one of the few people Brett could trust not to take Gage up on the bounty being offered.

2. The second is that Matt was offered the belt and was supposed to be a long term champion/help get sponsors and investors but got quadruple booked so he could not defend it so Moxley was brought in to take the belt off him, not knowing that Toby would keep Mox from defending it.

If anything he'd get the Ultimo Dragon treatment, which I think is about appropriate for him.
and to be fair iirc Ultimo Dragon was specifically there to check a mania appearance off the list of "do literally everything in wrestling" so it wasn't like it was a huge slight to him to be an early match, the entire point of his WWE run was just to be on a Mania card

What baffles me is why he was one of the few Tony didn't keep upon buying ROH. He kept that fat fuck no dimes Shane Taylor and not Tony?
he's also booking my boy big beef in a strange way too. guy is built like terry gordy, moves like a junior heavyweight, and he isn't getting booked like the monster he is.
