People that ruined their life

There is one really good (bad?) example that I am aware of.
Back in high school, there was this short, but very plucky and happy-go-lucky kid. I remember him being pretty cool and he had a good family, even a girlfriend. He seemed just like a normal, happy guy. No mental issues or bad behaviors.
Then high school ended and we all parted our ways.
10 years later and its our reunion. I decided to attend because apparently a lot of people were.
Well, I see the same guy there, but he was a complete husk of his former self. Looked like a methed out skeleton. I managed to convince him to head outside with me for smokes and I asked him what the fuck happened. He broke down and admitted his life turned to utter shit less than a year after leaving highschool. Started attending parties and let that life completely take him over. Excessive drugs, drinking, you name it. He didn't care it was destroying his life because he was "too young to care". So he just let everything fall to shit and would take advantage of people just to keep the party going. Of course, he got fucking wasted at the reunion party and ended up being kicked out due to his behavior.
I give the guy a few more years before we hear he's finally dead.

I knew a lass who had serious mental health issues. Struggled for years, to the detriment of other aspects of her life, and to her credit carried on working, always. One day at work she broke down completely, was sent home for the day and basically never went back.

Got signed off sick, was talking about getting her head straight, and volunteering in the meantime to keep herself socialised. Got her tugboat lined up, and the sudden influx of cash drove her off the deep end. She drank a shit ton of booze, went outside for a smoke, fell headfirst down some steps and caved her skull in, and died.

I sometimes think of her. She was a kind, decent person who suffered the absolute most heinous of abuse as a child from a family member, but spent years running from it. Always tried to do the right thing and carry on working and contributing. But one day, something inside of her snapped, and that made her end. Truly awful situation, and so sad.

I knew a guy, married with a few kids. He was on the road every few weeks for work. It turned out when he was on the road for "work", he was actually with his second family of girlfriend and two kids.
He got away with this for 15 years but, of course, he was found out eventually. Wife left him, girlfriend left him, kids want nothing to do with him. He somehow managed to lose his job in there too. Now he is dying alone of cancer.

I cannot fathom the compounding stress from having two families that don't know about eachother.

it used to be somewhat common in america when cost of living was stupid cheap. the fact that you don't really hear about men with a different family they're taking care of in every city they "travel for work" anymore just shows how expensive things are now.
That is the most confusing shit ever. I can understand cheating. But why the fuck would you try to have multiple separate families. That seems like a lot of work to be a scumbag that doesn't get anything a regular adulterer doesn't get.

This is the most insane true story, that I know of. It's a fucking Shakespearean tragedy. I'm going to greentext it, because I'm a lazy bitch and it's too late to try to relay it in prose.

>Mid 90's.
>Two black twin boys, aged 17-18.
>Really handsome, lightskin, great hair, model looks, non-violent. A mix between The Fresh Prince era Will Smith and Michael Jackson's less talented brothers. They play guitar really well.
>All girls in school love them.
>Twin 1 falls in love with a blonde white girl.
>They start messing around.
>The whole school starts warning Twin 1 about blonde girl's dad. Apparently Blonde girl's dad is an insanely huge racist.
>Twin 2 tries to convince Twin 1 to break things off with blonde girl.
>Twin 1 doesn't fucking listen. He is smitten and wants to marry her in a couple of years.
>Twin 1 takes blonde girl's virginity.
>A few weeks later, racist dad learns about it.
>He beats his daughter half to death and breaks her face so bad, she goes blind in one eye and deaf in one ear.
>He goes to the twins' neighborhood and sees Twin 2 hanging out with some friends.
>FUCKING STABS HIM IN THE HEART AND KILLS HIM, thinking it's Twin 1.
>Racist dad gets sentenced to 30-40 years in prison.
>Blonde girl throws herself off a bridge and kills herself.
>Twin 1 goes nearly insane. His hair greys out completely at 18, he starts shooting heroin to cope. Overdoses, but lives, apparently he got saved Pulp Fiction style.
>Apparently, BOTH of the twins' uncles are already serving sentences in the same prison as racist dad.
>On the first anniversary of Twin 2's murder, the uncles get their hands on racist dad and do some absolutely unspeakable cartel-style Mortal Kombat shit on him.
>They were supposed to be in prison for 2-3 years max, get upgraded to life without parole.
>Twin 1 goes completely insane and is admitted to a mental asylum.
>Twins' mom dies from a heart attack.
>Twins' dad becomes a pimp and drinks himself to death several years later.
>Twin 1 gets released from the mental asylum and starts living in a house in the woods, which was either previously abandoned, or he simply does not pay rent for.
>He is still alive as of 2022-ish.

Speaking of pissing away money, I loaned a kid $20 in high school once, which was a lot of money back then, and the next day I found out he fucking necked himself. Hung himself from his fucking ceiling fan over some chick. When I found out I was so incredibly stunned all I was able to do was make jokes. My head canon is that he used that money to buy the rope and the stool to do it. What a fucking dick. Seriously does he have any idea how awkward it was to have to go up to his parents at the candlelight vigil to ask for the money back?
Reminds me when I lent a former classmate my Wario Land 2 cart and never got it back, but I also kinda forgot about it. Years later he went crazy (apparently was a massive pothead which might have caused psychosis), tried to stab his dad with a knife and got shot by the police in response. I wonder if he sold my Wario Land to buy the knife and if I should ask his mother if the cart is still there?

Then I remembered that I sold the Harvest Moon cart he lent me to buy MtG cards, so it evened out.

I got one. It's not as flashy but probably more people have an experience like this.

Boomer Friend of the family, really nice guy. Spends whole life working as a Macy's manager. He doesn't have family of his own besides his brothers and parent's. One day they fire him and throw him away like trash despite spending most of his life there. (Don't know the details but im pretty sure he was just too old at 40-50.)

Dedicated rest of his life to taking care of parents, but doesn't stop smoking. He suffers a stroke from it, that partially paralyzed him and messed up his ability to regulate the angry part of his brain.

Miraculously manages to beat the paralysis but keeps smoking.

Parents die, now he's pretty much alone, angry, smoking and taking care of other old relatives. Brothers family reach out and he occasionally hangs out with them, but he's not often happy. Suffered three more strokes sense then. Don't know how he's still walking and talking.

I hope he's at peace when it's all said and done. He always was a good man, but I wish he could have found someone and managed his addiction.

I'm suddenly very glad I never got invited to parties in high school/college.

I read about a Chinese guy that did this. That dude at least had the excuse of being part of this traveling rural Martial arts group that's whole stick was beating parts of their bodies so much they became "iron strong". His speciality was having an iron dong.

True story, you could repeatedly kick him in the balls and get no reaction. Quite the lady's man.

As an older brother, it falls on him to be a role model and even though he has his own life to live, he's still failed in that regard.
I had a cousin who got taken in with drugs, and you can only help if they want to actually change. Otherwise, you're just a mark for them to take advantage of. You're expecting the older brother to take on the load of the younger brother, whilst excusing the younger brother from having to do anything.

One day you may get to experience something like that and you will see how pointless it is to try. You can beat the living shit out of them, it does nothing at all. You have to just accept that they are a failure an move on with your life. Its not a movie, people do not always get a happy ending.

Reminds me of the episode in Seinfeld where someone commits suicide from a hospital roof to George's car. He tries to ask for reimbursement from the hospital.
That's what I said, funnily enough.

This was literally the day after. Apparently he was talking with some chick who rejected him and he went nuts. You know when I think back on it, a lot of people did go World's Greatest Dad on his ass. He was a great friend to everyone all of the sudden lol. Meanwhile, I sat next to him every single day and the only time I ever actually spoke to the kid was when he asked for the 20. I didn't really care for that.

Slight PL here. It's an entire martial arts set. I don't know if these people did it for real, because you need special materials to do it and the secrets around doing it were closely guarded. You can make Iron anything, EXCEPT your skull. If you want a fast way to tell if people are full of bullshit though, find the guy who says he Iron Skull/Head/Cranium/Crown, whatever he calls it, and ask how long they were doing it for. If the answer is anything other than "All my life", they're full of shit.

The way you train Iron Crown is beating your head against sandbags. However, it must be done as a kid while the skull is still malleable. Once you go through puberty, you can't do it anymore. If you try, you either crack your skull and become seriously injured or deformed, or you die. Since it's kids thing, what the monks used to do is hang a sand bag obstacle course for kids to run through and it'd hit them in the head. They'd then wash their skulls with certain mixtures and tonics. For Iron Balls, you basically had to tie weights around your nuts and swing it back and forth. There's also a female equivalent of this.

There's an old Chinese parable about how guarded this stuff is, but it's. Man comes into the martials arts school and asks Grandmaster to make him so strong he can break coconuts. Grandmaster says "Okay, do X, y, and z for six months and come back". Man does it. He comes back six months later, hand wrapped up, and holding a coconut. He unwraps his hand, it's absolutely mangled. He smashes it against the coconut, the coconut fucking shatters to pieces. Everyone claps and cheers, absolutely floored. Grandmaster says "Good, you've done well. Now go do other hand". He leaves, the whole class cheers for him on the way out. Once he leaves, Grandmaster starts laughing and goes "Why are all you retards cheering for him? Didn't you see his hand? It's fucking mangled, he'll never close his hand again" and he just kept laughing.

Something similar happened to one of my schoolmates from high. She wes extremely promising, with plans to enter one of my country's most prestigious colleges. Had a breakdown during the third year and began hanging out with the dudeweed hippie crowd and went full Jenny from Forrest Gump. Reinvented herself as a "creative free spirit" (which means she became a drug-addicted party animal and fail artist), decided to get a useless degree in political science from the biggest commie hive university in our country, and then didn't get it because she took no exams in three years.

Last I've heard of her, ages ago, she was living off daddybux in a student apartment, with a roommate almost twice her age and accomplishing nothing. And she had become a full junkie. In hindsight, this was probably teen rebellion gone very wrong: from some things she said, she did not have a good relationship with her parents.

The difference here being she did it out of supposed rebellion and didn't have a good relationship with her parents.
The guy I knew just got addicted to partying so hard that it ruined his whole life, despite having a great life with no prior issues. He had no regrets either. Told me he'll just "keep the ride going until he drops", so he's also well aware of what he's doing. Just an arrogant, entitled prick now.

I had a friend in high school. Incredibly kindhearted guy, very smart, the kind of kid all the teachers and adults know will go on to bigger and better things in life. Graduated early, earning a scholarship.

While in college, his grandmother gets diagnosed with brain cancer. She moves in with him and his family to live out her final days. Friend makes the decision to put his college life on hold and help out the family as much as he can by working full time to support them financially and get certified as a private healthcare provider to assist when not working. He never goes back to college to finish his degree.

His grandma dies after a few years, and he’s still working jobs that only pay slightly above minimum wage. His mother was always a real piece of work and doesn’t help provide anything financially for her family, just takes advantage of my friend’s kindhearted nature and reluctance to say no to people and convinces him he’s the sole provider now, putting his own life on hold to care for her and his younger siblings.

We’re both middle aged now. We still talk but he’s a shell of the guy I once knew. He never complains, but you can see how unhappy he is and how much of his life he sacrificed at the expense of others who just see him as a walking ATM. Makes me sad thinking of the bright future he had, that got abandoned and how apathetic he seems now.

One of my ex girlfriends who had bpd broke it off with me for cheating on her the same day she cheated on me, later she ends up with a winner who is older than her with a child already and a mom who has worse bpd than her and is legally unfit to care for a child, guy gets girl who wasn't pregnant, pregnant, she has a baby now he has 2 baby mommas, 1 who doesn't live anywhere near him and the one he's with who's starting to be unstable, after 6 months she has a manic episode and starts having delusions and is threatening to kill baby daddy, forgot to mention she cheated on me more than once so there is 4 possible baby daddy's (not baby's I'm talking about like who's kid it would be) that includes me possibly. Have fun trying to figure out who's going to ruin their life with this one lol.

I work in a factory. One of the golden boys who was known for shoving seconds off machine down time lost all but his thumb in a machine. Crawled under the guards to place his hand in a machine that cut off product. Fingers went into a grinder, no hope of recovering anything but sausage meat.

Also another story that happened at a sister plant in Mexico, guy pulling product from the machine as it opens and closes, sitting on top of the moving mold base. Lost his balance, falls in, head gets crushed. Had a boss that lost an arm the same way.

This is why I take it personal when desk jockeys say I need "to get a real job"

They never worked "a real job". Maintenance is a death sentence and will often leave you maimed if you cut corners.

Young dude was working on a giant press for process renovation.
While in it, he was adjusting something and told others to turn it on.
People thought press would go up on the cycle. However it always goes down first then back up.
He turned into a giant pancake in a shape of a car door.
