I read the other day that only 79% of all adult US citizens are literate, and from the 79% of americans able to read, 54% read below a sixth grade level (this is ages 11-12). I didn't know what this actually means either, it means this:

Key Characteristics:

  1. Text Complexity:
    • Struggles with longer sentences, multi-syllabic words, or abstract ideas.
    • May find it difficult to grasp texts requiring inference, critical thinking, or context clues.
  2. Vocabulary:
    • Limited familiarity with academic or domain-specific terms (e.g., science or history terms).
    • Relies on everyday language and simpler phrasing.
  3. Comprehension:
    • Difficulty summarizing, identifying main ideas, or connecting ideas across a text.
    • May struggle with informational texts (e.g., manuals, news articles) or literary devices like metaphors.
  4. Fluency:
    • Reads slowly, with frequent pauses or errors, impacting overall understanding.

Practical Implications:

  • Daily Life: Challenges with tasks like filling out forms, following written instructions, or understanding healthcare information.
  • Education/Work: Limits access to higher-level coursework, job opportunities, or career advancement.
  • Social/Emotional Impact: May lead to avoidance of reading-related tasks, affecting confidence or engagement in learning.

but it gets worse, of these 54%, about 20% read below the level of a fifth-grader, which means:

Key Characteristics:

  1. Text Complexity:
    • Struggles with paragraph-length texts or passages with moderate complexity.
    • Difficulty with sentences containing subordinate clauses (e.g., "Although it rained, we played outside").
    • Limited ability to process nonfiction texts (e.g., science or social studies textbooks).
  2. Vocabulary:
    • Limited grasp of academic or grade-appropriate words (e.g., "analyze," "compare," "environment").
    • May rely on context clues for basic unfamiliar words but miss nuances or technical terms.
  3. Comprehension:
    • Trouble identifying main ideas, supporting details, or the purpose of a text.
    • Struggles with inferences (e.g., understanding a character’s motivation or predicting outcomes).
    • Difficulty with multi-step instructions (e.g., recipes, classroom assignments).
  4. Fluency:
    • Reads slowly, with frequent pauses to sound out words or re-read sentences.
    • May mispronounce common multi-syllabic words (e.g., "celebrate," "experiment").

Practical Implications:

  • Education: May fall behind in subjects requiring reading (e.g., science, history).
  • Daily Life: Struggles with tasks like reading children’s chapter books, understanding bus schedules, or interpreting simple graphs.
  • Social/Emotional: Potential frustration or avoidance of reading-heavy activities (e.g., schoolwork, games with written rules).

So if he's part of half of all US citzens there's a good chance he literally doesn't understand everything that is written here. This is dire. For comparsion, the literacy rate in my country is 99%.

EDIT: I accidentally the copy pasting and half the formatting was missing, whoops

How were South African schools in the 1970s? People keep memeing 'lol South Africa crown jewel of the continent' but somehow I don't think limeys got the whole educational system down pat.

As funny as it would be to consider that Musk behaves like a sped because he can't read, he probably had a very high quality private education the vast majority of US children haven't and will never enjoy. What he took away from it is of course the question.

Pretty sure Trump hated Elon from the start and only tried to like him after he tried to ingratiate himself as Top Sycophant for a while, so he decided to use him as much as possible while he could stand him.
He's probably in the process of dropping Elon, especially after the H1B and roman salute debacle.

If Trump drops elon, there could be an epic spergout that ends with a nuke. I fear that day and I hope Donald is aware of this. The conservatives have the hotter women.
Maybe he could sneak in a sweetheart with fake raep accusations to silently dump him.

The kikes are going to make him do another Israel tour with midget-kike Shaprio again.
He's good, Benjamin Netanyahu gave him a Nazi pass.

Beg to differ on this one. People forgave Trump for his much more purposeful "spastic retard" gesture in 2015 and I'd reason the same people aren't gonna crucify Elon over a retards fumbled hand gesture. Seems there's no urgency.

Trump has never minded being surrounded by colorful and controversial characters as long as they're devoted and loyal. Richest man in the world and owner of a major social media platform? Plenty useful.

And that's exactly why the next four years are going to be so funny.

The absolute cringe of what he’s doing.

“jokes on them, I was only pretending to act retarded”

And paleolithic era ‘le troll face lolol u mad trololol song’

This is the cringe you expect from a fedora tipping redditor from years and years ago.

Is there something in rocket or jet fuel exhaust that causes autism to get way worse?

Why not… make use of the incredible power he has access to, or the access he has.

Why spend time on cringe

Imagine spending 44 billion dollars so you can tell shitty jokes on the internet. Did nobody tell Elon a something awful forums account is only ten dollars? Would've saved everyone a lot of hassle.
In an alternate universe, Elon Musk bought Something Awful from Lowtax and eulogized his suicide by A-Logging him for three days straight.

that actually brings up an amazing point, because if you ask Musk he'd obviously know why and explain how the city he grew up in had a poor literacy rate but somehow he forgets all that when it comes to indians vs real people and being employed by tesla. like if anyone should understand humans aren't interchangeable worker units someone from SA is easily the most likely to understand that.

This guy just won the Troll of the Year award and we're not even out of January. Everyone in the media falsely accusing him of a Nazi salute, and instead of cowering like a baby and apologizing, he triples down and trolls them all by making the stupidest Nazi puns. Even the ADL doubled back on him and is now flailing their arms around.

I know I'm probably the only person who thinks this, but I am absolutely all for this maneuver. Be a Facebook boomer for a while. The sheer amounts of salt from absolutely everybody, even the fucking Trump administration since he doesn't do what they want either, is so fucking limitless and so fucking tasty. As someone who thinks all politicians are lying hacks, this man is possibly the greatest person ever appointed to a government position. Even if Trump fires him over the weekend or whatever it was so, so, so fucking worth it. I thought I wouldn't have anything truly exciting happen in politics for a while but Elon has proved to me that there are still mavericks and people that just don't give a flying fuck about the system anymore or what "should" be done voicing themselves out.

Even though he runs his businesses like a toddler playing in a sandbox, I have come around on the man, at least for today. He is funnier than every SNL skit and stand-up comic put together. Thank you for your glorious service to the ones like myself who think that the professionalism is a complete waste of breath.
