There are different types of godlikes. These ones are the nature version I think. One of the companions in POE is also a godlike and looks a little like a bird for another example of a godlike.

Been awhile since i played anything POE related but i dont remember any godlike looking like mushroom people. I dont remember there being any god that represents nature or plants (the closes is Galawain but he represents animals not plants)
Maybe it has something with it being set in the living lands since the entire region is ecologically fucked.
"Edit" After doing some digging it turns out Nature godlikes are in fact blessed by Galawain. they have animal or plant parts in their bodies (sometimes both at the same time)

At least with Corpus you get immunity to age and all other diseases. Also I don't look like a mushroom.

Yeah but unless you're Nerevar or Yagrum Bagarn that immortality is just living hell. Unless Divaryth Fyr managed to heal the regular infected after the main story.

God-likes are humanoids of pretty much any race that is born with features that are aspected towards a particular god or goddess. Previous games had nature godlike that had mossy skin and leafy hair. Sometimes animalistic horns. Depending on the divinity they're tied to their features are different. God-likes of Magran for instance have hair of flame, or skin that is cracked like lava. Death God-like tend to have horrid tumorous growths over their eyes (though they can still see). There's far more god-like types than there are playable options in the first two games. I'd assume the fungi is an extension of the nature god-like look but it wasn't something portrayed in the RPGs. Its funny because Nature God-likes were apparently well liked for being a sign of fertility or growth. If they're shambling around looking like a cordyceps zombie that might change.
Why they exist is revealed in the second game. They're essentially just saved repositories of that divinity's power that they can draw on later if they wish to. And they absolutely do, outright killing the God-like when they do it. If you're aspected to a real douchebag of a god you're gonna get fucked whenever they feel like flexing nuts.
