Avowed - Obsidian's new game, like Pillars of Eternity meets Elder Scrolls

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
Out of curiosity, I checked if there was a TCRF for this game yet. There wasn't, but I found a few videos on youtube. As boring and mediocre as Avowed is, these are precisely the kinds of games that are a wealth of cut content and ideas, which sometimes show the game was going to be better or more expansive at one point. I might as well archive what little I found, since nobody else seems to care:

Helmet system is fully functional, along with unique models and descriptions. They likely cut that out late into development when they realized it wouldn't work with the godlike facial features every player character has. Placeholder icon for items seems to be a dog. Description says there is more items than what is shown, so we can assume whatever the NPCs wear in the game can theoretically be worn by the player.

Legendary weapons are normally unique and placed in the world. These are cut generic Legendary weapons that would spawn in the end game, but I guess the game is too short for that or the devs decided to make the unique weapons even more powerful than ordinary weapons. It should be noted that in Outer Worlds, the weapons only went up to MK2 in the base game and you had to buy DLC to unlock MK3 weapons, maybe there was DLC planned for Avowed where similarly, you would find these generic Legendary weapons.

File too big, but this is a getting out of bounds video. Of interest is that there is a cutscene box where you meet the fungus voice and an area where NPCs float in the air, likely for spawning in later.

There is likely more, this game had to be bigger in scale at one point, but I can't find anything else at the moment.

Quick replay to see if cumulative 1.5 improved anything over release version, and it's mechanically marginal. If anything, performance is even worse - I had stable 60 with frame gen on mid settings at launch, now I had to tune down most of it to low AND it still struggled to keep 50 (I've of course updated drivers in between).
With that disappointment out of the way, at least siding with the "bad guys" at the end is satisfying, because after dealing with the dysfunctional team of a faggot, an autist, a nigger and a redditor sex pest, I could quite literally tell them to shut the fuck up, that they never mattered, that I'll bring order to their savage shithole isle, and that they have no choice but to submit - can't believe Obsidian added those lines, I guess they still have vestiges of good writing desperately trying to claw their way out of the sea of reddit. Too bad former companions can't be killed in the skirmish, but I'll take what I can get with the otherwise soy writing.

I hope you're a YouTuber making content because otherwise I don't know why the fuck you would ever choose to play through this absolute abortion twice.

Good old "Courier rules over Vegas" ending eh? Nice.

Mechanically it's decent - hits feel meaty (not like skyrim's tard flailing with no feedback), parkouring while looking for treasure feels nice and it obviously had a decent budget. Too bad most of the writing is typical soy reddit shit nu-Obsidian has become, game is full of niggers, mutts, faggots, dykes, non-binaries and strong wamen of color, and the main power progression is through scouring every nook and cranny for scarce upgrade materials, that will at best let you upgrade 3 weapons to the max before the point of no return, so you can't experiment with your build too much.

Throughout the game you can spot where and when Obsidian had to abort the NPC romance parts, and it's obvious they intended to make the waman nigger romanceable, since you can simp for her in every single unique camp dialogue, but in the "evil" ending you can just stomp on her where she basically asks you "what I've been to you all this time?", and you can respond "Temporary." Fucking ice cold. She's been a healslut cum sock the entire time, and now it's time to change to sandals. The game is missing an option like cyberpunk's Don't Fear The Reaper ending, because my build could genocide the browns on both sides at the same time.

Reminds of me of Ellie from Outer Worlds, wherein you could tell she was obviously meant to be a romance option but at some point in development they just ripped all that out, leaving her with an anemic dialogue tree and a weird ass personal quest about taking the protagonist home to meet her parents.

The quest still works since it is one of the few times citizens of Byzantine are ever humanized. Or rather, dehumanized since the quest shows how unlikable "true Byzantinites" really are, and contexualizes why a skilled doctor would want to get the hell out of there, even if becoming a spacer is much more dangerous.

Outer Worlds companion quests are nothing special, but boy the ones in Avowed are really shit. I will just spoil two of them right now since they're absolute garbage: Fish man is gay and his personal quest has you looking for his lost butt buddy with the same fish necklace. The non-racist Scottish dwarf, on the other hand, has been molested as a child and you have to deal with his childhood drama in his quest. This is not a joke, this actually happens. Not sure about the furry or the negress, but I couldn't care less. Give me something like Max's book quest or Nyoka's hunt for her lost squadmates over this gay shit any day of the week.

You couldn't - and shouldn't - care, but I'll help you recall anyway. Neither niggress nor the reddit furry sex pest have personal quests at all, you complete theirs during the main story. Niggress's parents got turned into plants, and she's too fucking stupid to decide whether to continue their research (on how to crossbreed a watermelon and a chicken most likely), or do her own research (same, but with fent and grape drank). Furry sex pest doesn't know whether she should remain with her interracial bf, or continue her career as a mage. Both are completely irrelevant, boring, and completely and utterly inconsequential choices. I miss when completing companion's side quest in a game would give them something unique, like a skill or an item only they could use, something tangible. Nowadays in games we're given a cast of mental fuckups and we have to play a tard wrangler/therapist to them for no reward whatsoever. If it wasn't for EXP, I wouldn't have bothered at all, and thank god for the evil ending, because they deserved to get betrayed.

So the quests are so awful you have to complete them to finish the game, lmfao. They're so awful I can't even tell if you just made this up on the spot or not, but I will believe you. Avowed isn't quite as bad as Veilguard but it is really getting there. Thank god the evil ending is there, so you can at least get your unlikable, forced companions out of the way. I hate this recent trend where developer OCs or self inserts are forced on you, Saints Row was the worst contender in this aspect. I will give credit to Veilguard as well, if you don't do personal quests for your companions in that game, they die so that's a plus. I haven't read a non-journo review that didn't have them killed on purpose, come to think of it.

Siding with Lödwyn is unironically a logically sound choice as an envoy of the empire, so much that I think someone based is hiding in Obsidian and adding those lines while the rest of fags aren't paying attention. As a deathguard in service of Woedica she's the epitome of loyalty and duty, she doesn't chimp out on you like all other leaders EVEN IF you pick choices that oppose her (fish niggers in 3rd map flip out on you instead if you pick an option that opposes Lödwyn, whom they treat as their enemy), and Steel Garotte are similarly loyal to her and the empire, up to and including one of them allah akbaring a mine with your blessing, and in return wishing you well in your endeavors, sacrificing himself to make sure fish niggers are disarmed against the eventual invasion. Best part - if you pick the pragmatic (no longer going to call it evil at this point) ending, you'll find out he survived, joined SG back and helped them even though he was crippled in the explosion. He's once again wishing you well, praying for your success even as he's seconds away from dying for good. If you sided with Lödwyn every time and killed the autismo god, then at the end instead of a boss fight she'll be your best bud, and who wouldn't side with her, when the alternative is to let the furries, the fish niggers, the actual niggers and other unwashed savages fling their own faeces at each other?

Damn you almost made me want to play it again. Almost.

If you pirate it - and you should, since Kikerosoft are a part of the lobby group that is trying to discredit and oppose SKG - then the price/enjoyment ratio is infinite. I have a favorite way of playing pirated leftoid games, where I'm trying to be as racist and destructive to the game world as possible, since it usually involves careful and meticulous planning. Works great in Vampyr (same dev as Life is Strange) for example - you raise and fatten the human cattle, and then once you reach the highest mesmerism skill, harvest all of them during one bloody night.

Not worth the file size or lost bandwith. It's just worse Outer Worlds with what little RPG elements remained gone and somehow even worse writing. It might be worth to look up a playthru on youtube tho, just to see the rejects that follow you around have sad puppy eyes when you tell them they're expendable and useless.

I had no idea it was made by the same people that made all those walking simulator slop games. Vampyr is actually half-way competent and I had some fun playing the game. Got it for free on Epic, so didn't pay for it anyway. Speaking of which, I see Avowed being one of the Epic giveaways in the near future lol

I only realized they have the same dev after I found an interracial couple and a faggot couple, all while playing in a post WW1 setting as a man with modern day morality, all in the first 15 minutes of gameplay, and looked up what kind of subversive faggots could have made that game.
