Oh I definitely agree there, Though I don't think Trump's recognition of them has to do with gaining votes. A lot of his smaller actions like this seem to be in the direction of nipping at the bud possible left-wing moves to find new, more culturally acceptable, oppressed groups to hide behind. Its effectively a backburn but for culture issues. Wiping the floor of detritus so that the left has no middle-ground kinda-agreeable options to rally behind. They are forced to either change and move past those to the center... or more likely, entrench further to the left. Rendering them unelectable.
