Pretty sure that a state/county fair being a ticketed event that happens once or twice a year is not some secret personal definition.
You can insist all you want that the norm for cheap dining in America is fresh bread, fresh potatoes, fresh meat, and handmade sauce, but it straight-up isn't. Cheap dining in America is McDonald's and gas station roller dogs. You can insist all you want that frozen chicken at American sit-down restaurants is a rarity, but there are a zillion shitty Dine Brands chain locations that say otherwise. Only restaurants in the hemisphere where I got served factory-bagged tortillas are in America.
The reality is Kraft, Wonder, Hostess, McDonald's, and other industrialized food brands changed American food culture significantly in the postwar era, and going to the state fair to eat some deep fried bread dough doesn't really change that.
