The fact that we have changed presidents hasn’t hit home in the opsec portion of crime yet. It won’t for about a year. They will still be used to paying off/offering a victim to the local fed and then going about business as usual.

E-1 to E-4 is just about time in service or how many suckers you can get the Army to talk to.
I knew people who were getting ready to retire who had just made Staff Sergeant which is one promotion above a basic bitch Sergeant.

Meanwhile, two of my friends who made a career out of it post 9/11 made E-8 after less than 20 in.

Granted, they weren't exactly "REMF", but I would say that if you're doing something in the military that has no chance for advancement past E-5 after a couple of re-enlistments means that you should either GTFO, or find something else to do in the Military that may actually have a path for advancement. One of my buddies is still AD, and he made E-8 after he left combat arms, because it broke his body (as it usually does). He's a ROTC trainer r/n, iirc.

I don't know if this applies to Marines tho, "Terminal Lance" is a meme for a reason.

That's fair, but in my eyes prior to 2024 Trump, Obama was probably the most recent time I was actually proud of being American. At face value, I still think he and Trump represent two valid ways for the leader of the free world to conduct himself on the national stage. I would have been embarrassed to have said the same if AoC or Kamala had been in charge, twerking and girlfailing in the most powerful office on the planet. Between all of that and Biden being asleep at the wheel for 90% of his presidency I can't help but crack a grin any time I think of the Bin Laden raid. Nothing during Joe's terms or an AoC/Kumala hellscape could make me feel that way.

In any case that's not here or there and I'm kind of derailing (I have 12 pages to catch up on since going to sleep).
