Final Fantasy XIV - Kiwi Free Company

Oh, right, yeah, I remember that. I thought you were talking about outside of Tural.
Nope. Dawntrail has been the only expansion where I've heard them shoehorn in feces as an important component of cuisine and culture multiple times.

SE decided to crack down on people breaking the TOS!

People botting A4N, not the stalkers. Why would they do anything about the stalkers? Enjoy prison, A4N farmer child.
I feel weirdly almost speechless to remark about how retarded it is to ban someone over automating outdated, casual content, likely to farm out Ceruleum Tanks or Coke like you mentioned.

I'm so glad the team has their priorities straight.

tbf this is the least "suspicious" way to industrially farm clean gil for RMT purposes, and it's the backbone of the submersible economy (This is 1M gil an hour going off of the current Ceruleum Tank value and mass Duck Bone selling.)

unfortunately they're deciding to go after clean gil production instead of unclean gil production like literally everyone has been asking them to for several years

btw unclean = obtained from account breaches/unethically, clean = farmed normally

Im surprised they havent add some sort of business expansion where you can build a company and employ crafters/gatherers. Kiwi Enterprises

That's kind of what the FC subs/airships are, along with retainers.

E: I also don't see much of a difference between someone bot farming Alexander 24/7 and Chinese gold farmers farming Amdapor Keep (I think they've moved on from this hotspot.) Both contribute to flooding the economy with currency.

There isn't as much of a difference in XIV because SE is fucking retarded, but in real MMOs you can track down where the gil comes from and "unclean" gil is much more likely to be acted upon than "clean" gil.

The chinese gold farmers typically use hacked accounts or make ones with stolen credit cards. They also use crude software to noclip out of bounds and that's why you keep hearing about the (((underground lalafells))).
Why SE hasn't implimented a system that disconnects you if you're out of bounds like basically every other MMO where it can even happen ever (e.g. stories of people in WOW innocently seeing a spot in the ground without collision, going into it because "lol whynot", and getting dced), I don't know. It's clear that the banwaves aren't stopping them.

Also apparantly on the KR servers the chinese gold farmers run Dzemael Darkhold for some reason?

Ive always found extremely gay and retarded to have bot accounts in mmo for farming X thing. I despise them because they made Lost Ark unplayable for me

Ok, so I looked into the situation on the puni.sh discord.

The reason why this even happened in the first place appears to be because Ice made a plugin that automated it rather than merely just pcall fuckery like I first thought and they're deciding to blanket ban anyone who has run A4N an abnormally high number of times.

I'm assuming that this won't have any ramifications on Prae farming due to it not stressing the instance servers nearly as much.

The main issue with Dawntrail isn't the "Latin" setting, it's that the setting is completely aimless.

Previous expansions are places during specific time periods. Ishgard feels like France/Britain but during the specific time period where they were phasing out of a monarchy and into a republic. Very Knights, Archers, and Heresy.
Doma feels like Japan, but Japan after the Meiji-era restoration (complete with an "inspired by" Shinsengumi).
and so on (Greece/Rome, India, etc).

Dawntrail just feels like "Latino" with the references to the culture not really feeding into the story. It just turns into "some vague Latinos are fighting robots" which is wild, because what little I know of various "Latino" cultures is how much they hate each other.

If they wanted to portray south american/latino culture, where are my fucking human sacrifices atop an altar for some obscure god like Hùracan or them playing the original version of soccer.

Fuck implementing the actual interesting parts of South American history like the Aztecs, let’s have cats eat tacos!

I've just been keeping my GC Seals capped all this time because I'm still too lazy to do the squadron thing to rank up farther. Do I have access to the commonly bought airship/sub mats without squadrons or no and what are they? Cause if I can get them I'll start burning my seals to sell on the mb from now on

I know Stormblood didn't really exist on Steam back then but I wonder if it would have been similarly divisive. Probably not; I think most here are in agreement that it's a flawed but still fun xpac. The seas part for we alone!

I don't think the market is great for that stuff, but the bulk of the mats come from being Lieutenant/Captain.

Certain housing items form the GCs can sell for decent money, but can be slow to sell. I tend to just blow excess seals on the minion gacha boxes and hope I get one of the big money items.

EDIT: Cos I misread and just putting this here in case anyone finds this useful:

Pretty much everything you can get off of the market board for subs/airships except for the materials that are used for schematics for various airship pieces (although you can also buy the parts off the MB too, although they are expensive.)

However, to be able to purchase a FC property for subs you need to be of sufficient GC (2nd Lt) and FC (Rank 6) rank. The former is done by doing the hunting log + squadron bullshit and the latter comes from doing shit in your FC. Easiest way to do it is by turning in shit for seals, which is why people bot Alexander.

Stormblood had a dry political story, an unpopular lead, and a boring A plot/setting (Ala Mhigo,) but there were many highs and points of intrigue even in the base MSQ that Dawntrail doesn’t come close to matching. Susano, Lakshmi and Shinryu were all memorable primals who had effects on the world without overstaying their narrative welcome (and Lyse was absent or completely outclassed, so she didn’t steal our thunder in any of them,) we had an excellently developed villain in Yotsuyu who got her own arc that explained and deepened her tragedy without using it to try to excuse her of her crimes, and we had time to spend on the multiple side characters that people remember and like to this day because they were robust enough to make an impression (Gosetsu, Fordola, Hien, Magnai, Hancock, etc.) Kugane was an interesting city that had a strong personality of grey morality and independence, including having an embassy for our arch enemy in it, which kept it feeling very politically distinct from our Eorzean cities and passively encouraged not getting too comfortable. There was a character that was interested in ours personally to bring some more personal stakes into all the politics (Zenos,) and the Hingashi/Doman/Steppe side was simply dripping with detail and culture that didn’t feel like it had just come into existence five minutes ago, which is the feeling that I got from every locale and population in Dawntrail.

Dawntrail is more like what you would get if you took only the dull Ala Mhigo side of Stormblood and tried to stretch it into a full expansion, first of all. But even if you let that slide, the story is still on a completely different level of poor planning and execution. It has already squandered most of its memorable MSQ side characters by lobotomizing them immediately (Bakool Ja Ja) or killing them immediately (Gulool Ja Ja,) sometimes twice (Otis,) ascribes zero logical motive to ANY character, and refuses to develop anyone or anything in a natural or logical way instead of a fake and forced one. It hamstrings its own stakes as often as possible and repeatedly presents uncannily cardboardlike locations, characters and story beats that are consistently bereft of meaning, implication or even basic logic, like a collection of functions that exist only to fulfill arbitrary gameplay and plot requirements. Things happen because the plot needs them to, and the plot needs them to because who the fuck knows? Things are explained but the explanations don’t make sense. It’s going through the motions of a story. It’s all extremely immature, even childish, like baby’s first shitty worldbuilding attempt constructed out of an extremely limited awareness of things that exist and practically no life experience or empathetic observation of people to understand what makes them tick. These are entry level fiction writing skills that are completely absent.

Ala Mhigo wasn’t liberated overnight with food and a handshake. Its problems could not be fixed with a solution that was Right There All Along. And the sequence of events that were required to free it made sense, had stakes, and needed the Warrior of Light, even if one personally found them uninteresting.

Dawntrail is Temu FFXIV. Comparing the two is definitely unfair to Stormblood.

Ala Mhigo was the city state that piqued my interest throughout ARR and Heavensward, and when I finally reached her in Stormblood I found it so underwhelming.

On the other side, Doma, Kugane and the Hingashi region was the main focus of Stormblood and, like you said, it was full of main and side characters that are still remembered fondly to this day.

The only thing I still found jarring (and funny at times) is how the Garlean Embassy guards still call you a filthy savage despite his nation not existing anymore.

I was sad Ala Mhigo/Gyr Abania was kind of lame because it was the last time we got a single region with multiple zones in the style of the original ARR areas. Since most people consider it a failure I doubt we'll ever get anything resembling them again, which sucks because I think the interconnected map style feels more real and engaging, compared to now where every map is a giant open blob and you're lucky if any one has multiple exits.

There is actually cool stuff to find in the Gyr Abania maps and some really nice looking locations hidden up in the mountains, but there's almost no incentive to explore once you've unlocked flying. We should've spent the first half travelling through the hills hiding in monasteries, crossing old rope bridges to avoid Garlean patrols. Then going onto the main roads when we were ready to liberate the region.

The weird thing is that XIV writers tend to be pretty good in updating small details like these, so it really stood out that they didn't bother to update this guy post-Endwalker. (Case in point, Unukalhai, an entirely optional and missable NPC from Heavensward, has new dialogue after you completed the role quests in ShB. I have no idea if they updated him and Cylva post EW void excursion.)

Maybe it was a harbinger of things to come.
