TGWTG The Spoony One / Spoony / Noah Antwiler and Rachel Baker / @RaeAngel07 - The touching romance between a washed-up videogame reviewer throwing a decade-long pity party and his delusional Canuck stalker. #weaknotsick #donttellmehowtosulk

The skits got edited out of reuploads mostly. Yeah they were kinda annoying but those were mostly mandated by Channel Awesome. I believe Spoony had said that Channel Awesome wanted him to include skits and storylines in his videos, without Doug pestering him he probably would have not added them.

I thought he was of the belief that Dr Insano could be a children's show or some shit.

I absolutely remember him getting absolutely cunty towards people on his forums for complaining about the skits, though.

Seriously though, how is he getting by with like 2000 dollars a year? I'm surprised his family tolerates it. I'm very curious about his living situation.
His parents support him, especially his mom. Shortly before losing his house, she was doordashing him food and who knows what other support. They're pretty wealthy and seem to love their son enough to not want him to suicide, so maybe they've just accepted him as a mentally ill failson.

The sad thing for him now is that alot of tech jobs have Work from Home Options now. He can easily take a Bootcamp to get qualified again. Shows you how lazy and work averse he is.

He doesn't even need to do that much. He could watch a couple YouTube tutorials on how to use something like React and hook it up to AWS and he'd be qualified to make websites adequate for the purposes of the majority of companies.

It's all futile, as long as he doesn't have to work he never will again.

People loved Spoony for a reason, and I'm on a quest to figure out what that reason was.

It's very simple really... just like AVGN, they either reminded us of things we are very nostalgic about, or showed us things we were completely unfamiliar with. A lot of the charm and comedy in a Spoony video comes from showing you how bad a film or a game can be, presented with believable passion. Just like with AVGN, what made it interesting was the history, the products, and the conviction in the the way they delivered the review. The skits, the cursing, and the overractions might have been a draw for the childish portion of their audience, but that wasn't the main draw for their regural fanbase.

And he's not even a non-practicing lawyer.

Oh Yeah. Great stuff is on Youtube. And even some great free Courses on Coursera. I'm trying to become a UI Graphic Designer. Just have to build a nice portfolio with good case studies.

I've commented a few times about this, but I'd also like to add, the man was passionate (at least for most of the things he made videos about) and pretty insightful and that made him a draw. I haven't watched many reviewers so i don't know what it's like now or for the last 5+ years, but he wasn't a shill for anything (at least from what i know of him). He was just some nerd like many of us...a very spergy, conceited one but one of us nontheless.

I still watch quite a lot of reviewers and from what I can see it's divided up into roughly three camps: entertainment, edutainment and formal. For entertainment I'd give someone like Dunkey as an example, his videos are meant to be primarily funny but you can also get an idea of how he feels most of the time. Edutainment is someone like NakeyJakey, who does deep dives into broad topics but has a lot of jokes as window dressing. Formal is your Digital Foundry types, extremely matter-of-fact and you'll rarely get a quip.

I'd say every modern reviewer falls somewhere on this spectrum; Spoony would probably be straddling entertainment and edutainment.

I always remember hearing stories about Doug and especially Lewis wanting to do more shit with him as Insano, and Spoony pushing back to try and keep the character from over staying his welcome. Then again, he could have just thought their ideas were shit. Considering the way Lewis wrote him as a final villain in one of his arcs, I don't blame him.

And he was cunty to a lot of people for a lot of reasons. He was just a cunt in general.

In fairness to Noah. He was right to be concerned about overdoing a character. Look at how many characters of Lewis have overstayed their welcome [including Lewis himself].
