TGWTG The Spoony One / Spoony / Noah Antwiler and Rachel Baker / @RaeAngel07 - The touching romance between a washed-up videogame reviewer throwing a decade-long pity party and his delusional Canuck stalker. #weaknotsick #donttellmehowtosulk

Did you see The Warrior comic crossovers he did with Spoony? Then you've got a pretty good idea of what he does, though I think Spoony co-wrote those which is why they have some funnier moments.
I've never seen/read anything by anyone involved with Channel Awesome, except for clips in videos making fun of them. I admired the hustle but the sense of humor just isn't for me.

I didn't say the show was good. I said it was much more enjoyable than the comic book. It's like instead of getting kicked in the balls you're just mildly annoyed by a fly buzzing about your head. Granted I've only seen the first season and I'm in no hurry to see the next one.
The series rapidly declines in quality past the second season or so. I'd argue that the comic had some interesting stuff to say (I tend to appreciate Ennis whenever he's celebrating the military and there's some of that in there) but the show had a lot more potential that was just sort of wasted on Patrick Tomlinson-tier 'Orange Man Bad' levels of 'commentary.'

It is pretty well trod ground for Ennis at this point, although for a lot of fans that were created from the MCU it'd be new. I was kinda hoping the show would be a similar critique for the MCU/etc that it did for comics.

That's because Lewis can't do anything original. Everything he's done is derivative of something else.

It's because everything that happens in Lewis' skits are canon so when he and Spoony were doing a review of one of the Warrior comics, a comic based on the Ultimate Warrior, there was an accident in "hypertime" and Dr. Insano became Dr. Linksano and Linkara became possibly "Spoonkara".

Meaning that now Dr. Linksano is a character in Lewis' power fantasy universe.
"Dr. Insano became Dr. Linksano and Linkara became possibly "Spoonkara".
I say this as a man who unironically watched MLP, that is the gayest sounding shit I have ever heard.

I always remember hearing stories about Doug and especially Lewis wanting to do more shit with him as Insano, and Spoony pushing back to try and keep the character from over staying his welcome. Then again, he could have just thought their ideas were shit. Considering the way Lewis wrote him as a final villain in one of his arcs, I don't blame him.

And he was cunty to a lot of people for a lot of reasons. He was just a cunt in general.
Honestly it shocks me how much crap Doug and Lewis tried to get Spoony to do with his "own" character because he was the only guy capable of writing something remotely entertaining in those days so they wanted to just grift off of it.

In fairness to Noah. He was right to be concerned about overdoing a character. Look at how many characters of Lewis have overstayed their welcome [including Lewis himself].
Lewis has a talent for running anything remotely "funny" into the ground, especially when it comes to stuff in his """lore""".

if you have not watched linkaras story line videos, you have kino lined up for tonight

people think spoony is the lolcow of channel awesome, its not its lewis

They were pretty much all lolcows one way or another. Spoony is a massive looser but still....his personality are not far and wide worse than most of that crowd. It was a shitshow on a massive level. Spoony is a cunt but i would still rather hang with him for a day than Lewis, Diamanda Hagan or Nostalgia chick and whatever else weirdos there was.

I don't think so, they just loved the character. Doug because Insano was the same type of over-the-top screeching loud character that he loves to play and thinks is the height of comedy, Lewis because Insano was Linkara's first enemy in his rogue's gallery, and wanted him to come back again and again to be his Joker and then later scientist buddy. Neither really understood what made the character work, because autism.

I'll never buy into the hype that Spoony could have made it in LA or really any capacity as a real actor or writer, but I do think in a different era he could have been an extremely popular public-access TV personality. He has exactly the right kind of charm, energy and half-assed production to fit in alongside legends like Gaming In The Clinton Years.

The show fucking sucks.

I agree with Spoony on the comic being hateful and miserable, but that just kind of comes with the Garth Ennis territory.
It was ok. Not as comically tryhard as crossed was. The epilogue was one of the most pitiful things i've ever read.
Garth ennis is for the knacker's yard i think. his shocks aren't shocking, his themes are dated and his writing isn't good enough to compensate for that.
As for the show, it doesn't interest me. It's edgy capeshit which makes it even dumber than ennis' bitty babby subversion of capeshit.

I think if he had a real acting coach instead of Doug Walker's constant 'more louder! scream! emote!!' influence he probably could've been ok in one of those Disney TV tween shows in the mid 2000's as a side character.

Even if he got that those all burn out in a few years anyway, for every Leo DiCaprio there's hundreds of flashes in the pan.

How would he get the role? Do you think Spoony would go to audition after audition, being rejected over and over, just to maybe get a paying gig? He wouldn't get a job to save his own house, he would never be able to work multiple side jobs to live in LA and audition as much as he could?

Spoony is not an exceptional talent in any regard. He's not good looking enough for television. He would be competing against people who have talent and drive. No Hollywood producer, even a small time one, would look at his YouTube and think "I got to give this guy a role. No audition.". He would be forced to make his own way in a ruthless business and we know what he does when faced with a challenge.

I'm not saying it's realistic with him as he is. I don't think looks were the problem for sure, especially when he was younger especially for a side snarky friend to the leads. That's what I was trying to say, *if* he had gone to say real acting school instead of a useless computer science degree I think he might've had some chance, if just in theater. It's all just a hypothetical in the end. How many early Youtubers got any kind of 'real acting' from their videos? Only one I can think of is.. shudder.. Fred and even that was a short fad.

In fairness, what else is there to do? It's not like we have new videos or even tweets to discuss. Even his number one fan hog seems to have disappeared.
It seems we are finally entering the "void" arc for Spoony. Nothing else is happening and he seems to have finally sheltered himself in whatever hole he has found.

I always thought his kind of acting would have been good for sitcoms. He screams Chuck Lorre character. I know this is giving him too much benefit of the doubt, but I honestly think his burn out would have either been postponed dramatically or avoided had he been given the strict schedule of an actual production and not some internet series where he had too much freedom. Who knows maybe he would have been way too ADHD riddled and spoiled by his parents to have ever made it out of that mentality, but its something I think about.

They always said Scarlett was the one keeping him inline during 'Good Spoony' years and when she bailed he went into the nosedive. Ran all his schedule, forums and so on. I think there's some truth to that. She and April, 1 to punch on him.

Definitely some truth, she did everything but the actual content. She was also his first girlfriend (that he was also planning to marry) and he never got over it when she cheated on and left him.

Where is all this "could he make it" coming from? Just look at the rest of Channel Awesome. It is one thing to be into nerdy stuff while having a life, but those people are just a bunch of losers who were at the right place at the right time. They have nothing beyond wasting their formative years on games, comics or shitty movies and without that golden opportunity they would be nothing, but retail slaves or burger flippers. They put all their eggs into one basket thinking that gravy train will never stop and now forced to live in their tiny kingdom of dirt while barely making ends meet. Maybe they were first, but reality is that they weren't the best or just good even. They are like that cartoon you watched on TV because there was nothing else to watch.

SPOONY IS GONNA MAKE A COMEBACK JUST WAIT FOR THE VIDEOS TO RENDER!

Oh no, Trump's already wrecked him.

It's less about fixing Spoony, because we all know that's a lost cause, and more about speculating how he could have not fucked things up and what was the best case scenario for him, long-term.

I don't think anyone here is naive enough to believe Noah is pulling up at this point, but I think it's fun to try and problem solve.
