When people like me say woke or DEI, I am speaking about poorly done or ham-fisted representation. Pushing politics to get government money (Dustborn), to get Internet good boy points/PR (Saints Row reboot) or just because the developers brain is so utterly rotten from their politics that they must include them in the most ham-fisted way possible even if it breaks previously established material (Veilguard). There are examples previously mentioned in this same thread of minority, be it sexual or racial, characters that are well written. People generally don't care about the race or sexuality of videogame characters. But anyone can tell at a first glance how the characters in this game are nothing more than the sexuality or race they claim to be. There is no complexity, no character arcs, no evolution, nothing that the player can chew on or ponder about. It's just so dull and lacking in creativity. People also hate it when they are obviously being preached to by a morally bankrupt company.
I think a lot of it comes down to devs wanting to basically insert their own OC into an emerging/already existing property. People who don't care about games or the game they're working on, only that everybody is aware of the random shitter they shoved into the story and how fuckin cool and likeable they are. All they're concerned about is that degenerates and retards soy out about the random nigger faggot they shoehorned into the story, disregarding the fact that even if the character they made was actually good, it doesn't fuckin matter when as a result the story is poorly written under-developed shit.

We're looking at the makings of another major game industry crash, not seen since the 1980's.
Doubtful. It'd be nice if you were right but I think the reality is it's not yet bad enough industry-wide that we're at that point. I think it has to get that dire for them to see how fucking retarded they are and maybe fix things.
the only way i see to save DA is for the next people who takes it after bioware collapses to retcon it "everything after inquisition is no longer canon, neither the game not the books or comics are canon"
Why save it? Let it die and it's possible from its ashes something better can be born.

its literally their third flop in a row.
I keep seeing people say "Three flops in a row" and mentally I count off "Okay yeah so Veilguard, then Andromeda... what was it that tanked before Andromeda?"
After looking up their releases on Wikipedia I was shocked.
It's Anthem.
Anthem released inbetween DEI Age and Andromeda, and I had forgotten it so utterly that I thought Andromeda and Feilguard were concurrent releases. This company is down SO BAD.

If bioware doesnt shut down after this catastrophe of a shitshow i dont know what will.
I can see the suits giving them one last shot at reviving Mass Effect. That franchise is absolutely iconic and while 3 was received poorly, all three of them sold gangbusters. They were also wise enough to detach the Andromeda disaster from the core narrative by putting a literal galaxy sized airgap between them.
Now that Dragon Age is dead and they've proven they can't make new IPs with Anthem, Bioware's sole remaining piece of value is Mass Effect.
I can't wait to see how badly they fuck it up. I'm honestly expecting them to hire another tranny game director to replace the one that just got booted.

The new age of Dungeons & Dragons and its consequences have been a disaster for the gaming race.

Please for the love of god, just give mass effect to a different developer and put bioware out of its misery already.

Mass effect has been promised to "continue" for about a decade now with nothing to show for it since Andromeda back in 2017. Its been reduced to an overpriced N7 clothing brand ran by woke yuppie scum who didnt earn it and just laze around the office all day getting no work done.

No treating the original trilogy like skyrim with its bloated re-releases several times the original install size with even less content to show for it doesnt count. Doesnt even include the still functional Mass effect 3 multiplayer.

I long for the days of Dragon Age 2 which wasn’t even that good, and I really would have preferred to play as Hawke’s pissed off brother Carver. Preferred Origins where there was so many paths. So many ways to make the story interesting. I couldn’t even finish Inquisition. I barely kept up with this game.

Oh well, see you around BioWare. I have fond memories of your older games.

I don't think anyone in these circles are surprised the game was dogshit, but it's not like slop doesn't sell. Glad to see this absolute trainwreck of a game performed so poorly that Bioware might get the axe. The moment I knew it was absolutely, unequivocally over, was when I overheard my coworkers, who are very bogstandard, milquetoast liberals, talking about their experience with the game and calling it "mid" and bashing the writing for being preachy and laying it on too thick with the progressive social stuff.

They also said the tone of the game was completely off compared to other Dragon Age titles, which I can't confirm for myself because you couldn't pay me to play this game :story:

Similar to how I define it when some leftist tard tells me "you chuds cant even define woke!!!". It's not just any diversity like they want to pretend. It's performative. "this is the most diverse cast ever!" "this is the first black Jewish non binary amputee lead in a major motion picture!" It's also used a shield from criticism. They rely on the Redditors to shout down any criticism of a product and blindly support it out of a hivemind fear of being called a bigot if the product is woke. What sucks for Hollywood and AAA game devs is that normal people are so tired of this bullshit.

It's a bit like pornography, in that a firm definition is elusive but you absolutely know it when you see it.

An example from the boardgaming realm: I'm a big fan of FFG's Arkham Files (except, oddly, for the Arkham Horror LCG, which is the most popular game by far). Arkham Horror 2E came out back in 2006. All the available investigators were white, half male and half female. Eek! Come the first expansion, they introduced a few black characters. This being 1920s New England, justifying such characters could be tricky, but they did it: all of them were in the sort of roles you might expect for that time and place. A jazz musician, a singer clearly inspired by Josephine Baker, a college athlete (they were rare but existed). Plausible diversity.

As expansions continued, they introduced a few more non white characters, some more plausible than others. A female African shaman is fine for a quasi-RPG, but what the heck is she doing in Massachusetts? Still, Lovecraft Country has plenty of port cities, so it was still in the realm of believability.

All of this became much more plausible in the followup game, Eldritch Horror -- that game is global, so an African shaman, a Chinese martial artist, and a grizzled expedition leader all fit quite well.

The last Eldritch Horror expansion introduced investigators from another line, Mansions of Madness: two of them were gay. In both cases, this was a background element that had no bearing on the character: a dead same sex lover for one; a throwaway line about the female mechanic liking pretty girls for the other. A bit eye-rolling, but nothing absurdly intrusive.

Fast-forward to Arkham Horror 3E, and we have (from the card game originally) a M2F tranny mail carrier. Half "her" bio is devoted to discovering "her" identity. Further, in the core game, all the allies -- NPCs who serve as powerful boosts -- are some flavor of female, minority, or both, including a black university professor (in 1920s New England!) and a female police captain. Things are starting to get silly.

Now come to 2020, the Year Everything Went Crazy, and we have a game called Unfathomable (a reskin of a Battlestar Galactica game). It takes place on a steamship in 1913. And here is where things go, just, just wild:

- The captain is a female Indian.
- The sergeant-at-arms (the physically toughest character) is a non-binary they/them who wears dresses and makeup.
- A Senegalese deaf woman (a twofer!) whose biography goes on endlessly about colonialism and oppressors.
- Another African woman who is also an albino (another twofer, although since she's a stowaway this sort of works).

Where the two gay characters in Eldritch had their sexualities defined by a sentence or two, in most of these cases significant portions of the bios are devoted to their various grievances.

I don't know exactly what happened -- a trans designer worked on Eldritch and was in charge of Arkham 3E, but he was gone by the time they did Unfathomable -- but something clearly went badly wrong. The journey from "unlikely but plausible" to "absurd on its face" is undeniable ... which, I would argue, is why people start to grouse about wokeness the second a gay or implausible minority character shows up.

It was also the season of reboots where random, plucky, “B tier AAA” franchises like Baldurs Gate were able to fucking explode. (Yes, a 20 year old CRPG is B tier).
I'm remembering all the vitriol that was fobbed out by certain pissy devs on how you 'can't expect' games on the level of BG3. WONDER WHY.
So, In my opinion, woke is synonymous with bad writing.
It's more a product of being raised on video games/TVs/etc and not doing any actual reading or learning of the craft. It's a problem outside of progressive level type shit.

I don't buy EA anymore since they started to utterly pozz the Sims games with wokeness and pro-pooner and tranny bullshit.
And don't even get me started on their Origin vomit-heap.

I bet all of the 3 million non-buyers have similar reasons.

EA is truly the reverse Midas. Everything it touches turns to shit.

Good. There are very few western game devs I don't want to see go under. The only ones I can think of are ID and Moon Studios. The rest could die in a gutter and nothing would be lost.

Oh and I guess Sandfall Interactive if Expedition 33 ends up being good.

To be fair, good writing or not.. i don't want niggers of fags in my vidya. If i am playing some Cyberpunk game set in Detroit or something, fine. But i don't want them appearing in feudal Japan or some European/Asian fantasy setting.
I mean it could be done well if it's there to tell a good story and not to push an agenda. But at this point I sort of agree. Games are escapism, why would you be filling them with the same crap you deal with IRL?

Anyway games are gay and I stopped playing years ago. Also if you give any of these companies money instead of pirating you are a literal retard.

I haven't seen anyone post this here. EA officially stated in their press release that the game performed below 50% of approximated expectations. They hoped it would sell 3 million copies, but it sold 1.5 million. Bioware is most likely getting axed.

Edit: I personally want to remind you that you don't hate videogame journos enough. Eat shit Jason Schreier, Dragon's crown is still kino.

The amount of faggots on the internet praising that this game would totally be a success despite the discourse, AHAHAHAHA. That one cunt (definitely a troon) "Valkyrie" or whatever comes to mind, on ALL the "hot topic" games (Suicide Squad, this game, you name it) defending "her" side of the culture war (the degradation of society) and claiming how this game would totally not flop.
I'm a little low key salty that Visceral was killed for far less than this.
Main problem is, corpos see a big success and think "let's try 3x that success" and then hamper the development of the game, keeping extremely unrealistic expectations. And when it flops they'll use it as an excuse to completely butcher the company until they can completely liquidate its assets to either sell or "it's my IP to sit on and do nothing with!" Square Enix and Sony are particularly awful with this. "It sold 20 gagillion copies? But it wasn't 200 GORILLIAN copies!" That and now they're milking nostalgia from once titans of the industry in order to promote "their" (Blackrock, Vanguard, etc's) ideology, when it starts to backfire they'll move on, like a disease.
So, In my opinion, woke is synonymous with bad writing.
I'd argue that it's forced modern day politics, more specifically left wing politics. While people the right might and have done the same thing, it's never called woke. Only things that identify as left wing are considered woke, by pro and anti-woke alike. And even then a lot of people might forgive that if it wasn't like you said, dogshit writing. Like @Mola Ram said regarding his little review on Arkham Files, it's the plausibility that fucks with most people. A black African Shaman in Africa (seriously, Massachusetts?) is plausible, an albino Nigger stowing away on a boat to escape getting her blood drained by even more retarded nignogs who think Albino blood has magical healing properties is plausible, but plausibility is for bigots apparently.
