AA primarily refers to mid-market companies and games, ala Wukong, Space Marines 2, etc for some recent examples. If you need a movie example, Fight Club would be a good one.

AAA refers to big studios, e.g. Rockstar, Ubisoft, etx

I tend to think of it as the long dead "middle market". Back during the sixth and early seventh generation you had many studios that were not big enough to be the AAAs but neither were they one or two dudes in their mom's basement doing an indie passion project. A lot of Eastern European studios fit in this category like CDPR during the Witcher 1 and 2 days, before they went woke and Warhorse when they released Kingdom Come... before they went woke. They mostly died off due to increasing budgets during the seventh generation but they've been making a small comeback with Kickstarter and private funding.

I don't have much faith for elderscrolls 6 or fallout 5 but if either of them DONT go down the veilgaurd route and Todd doesn't brag about either game having "trans friendly character customization." It'll almost...ALMOST make me give him a modicum of respect for once.

Then when the game was considered a failure and it was confirmed nobody was buying the microtransactions, EA euthanized the sequel and kept producing DLC nobody was buying.
