One of our cats had a habit of doing this. He was a rescue who had been feral for years and I think he just sometimes had ‘I may never eat again, steal it and run’ mode kick in,
He stole:
An entire stuffed chicken - caught him attempting to drag it out the catflap
A pork chop
Multiple bbq things
A bowl of oil- this was the worst one. Caught him halfway down a bowl of cooking oil. The aftermath was initially hilarious (greasy, queasy, bloated looking cat) and then horrific (oil goes through a cat real quick….)
I miss him. He was a great cat.

I know I'm rezzing an ancient comment, but I have a cat that was similar. She was the runt of a litter of strays and had somehow been abused in the short period of time between her birth and our taking her in, so she was SUPER food insecure as a kitten. I once saw her steal a piece of fried chicken twice her size and go to town on it. She still steals fried chicken bones from the trash if we aren't careful, but at least now we've shown her she doesn't need to fight to eat with us.

Usually if people invest in a horse they're the kind of people to be signing up for showmanship and riding contests. Some owners will take them out hunting or camping in order to access areas that vehicles can't reach. They're also useful in therapy for vulnerable/disabled people and kids. Horses are not that fragile in spite of their looks.

But overall it's a hobby geared towards rich people. So the activities they use the horses in also cost a decent amount of cash to participate.

To touch on Arabians: they're the luxury car of horse breeds. A well bred and trained Arabian will have seamless transitions between walking, trotting, and loping. It's almost like riding on a cloud. There's a reason they have such a high price tag compared to other most other types of horses.

Halter horses? That is their only job. They retire to replicate more of them to sell to noobs as investments in "living art". Note: if it eats, it's not an investment. There's also the "trainers" for hire to give your living art the terrified bug eyes that place well at Scottsdale.

Midwest Arabians is the top of the heap for halter Arabians. Their fancy stud Magnum Psyche had plastic surgery to remove a neck muscle for totally reasonable reasons that happened to make his neck ultra thin which totally wasn't to win shows by having the thinnest neck. Google them for more lulz I can't be arsed to type out.

Qharter/Paint/Appy halter horses are the "lead and feed" specialists. Ordinary people got so outraged that a genetic disease called HYPP was giving affected horses an edge in the show ring by making them extra muscular on little toothpig legs but also caused them to keel over with paralyzing muscle spasms that the AQHA finally put limits on registering affected horses. Oh how the halter breeders cried.

Paints and Apps allow quarter horses to be registered in their clubs, so HYPP has infested those breeds too. Not all breed clubs have banned HYPP carriers like AQHA did. They need that revenue from registration fees plus the big nsme breeders añd trainers are on the boards of all these clubs so.

You don't ride any of these halter horses. The Arabs are too valuble to risk it and too busy pumping out babies anyway. The QH/Paint/etc. likewise but also riding develops the wrong muscles and spoils the look. Plus an HYPP horse can drop dead under you which is not that safe. Washouts lose their papers and get trucked up north for excellent cheval sashimi.

Horse showing is as very fucked up as these murder toads. Which the Tennessee Walker people gladly point out so we know the pads and chains and soring are nothing compared to what those other guys do for ribbons.

I am about fed up with all recreational uses for animals. Pets or food, otherwise leave them the fuck alone., they don't deserve this shit done to them.
