Not Just Bikes / r/fuckcars / Urbanists / New Urbanism / Car-Free / Anti-Car - People and grifters who hate personal transport, freedom, cars, roads, suburbs, and are obsessed with city planning and urban design

Looking fit as ever, thanks gym of life! (Also is this supposed to be his studio? Not sure we've ever seen it but wow it looks fucking pathetic.)
Jason released a video yesterday on the "Gym of Life":

Still behind his paywall for another week though.

What excuses will he come up with for his obesity?

He thinks his video is funny:

He thinks his video is funny:

Didn't he brag about having Daily Show writers at one point? It wasn't funny or entertaining, which either goes to show that they weren't sending their best or proof that those shows weren't funny to begin with.

Since he's not naming any names, he might as well be hiring open-mikers and the last thing you want is "it was written by someone who thinks he's funny".

Something that always really gets my goat is the level of smug these Urbanist channels have, though that could also be because they're often Breadtube adjacent. The level of sureness they have in their intellect and the "right Idea" is outstanding. The ultimate question I have for these Galaxy Brains is, if you are so fucking smart why aren't you working in public infrastructure, urban planning, technological development of public transit, or any number of minor roles that attaches to it?

Don't encourage them. There's already way too many of them in my red city's planning department.

He did name names. The "Gym of Life" video was written by Andrew Orvedahl.

Transit design and city planning are incredibly dry and technical (overly so if there is a critique), and drawing bike lanes and subway lines in Adobe Illustrator is easier to do than to dive into zoning code and transit regulations.

Which is why those urbanist's "improvement" ideas suck ass, because they dont do any thinking whatsoever, they take out a pencil and start drawing random ass lines, with no regard for anything else.
>be me
>be an urbanist
>bitch and whine that my city is not walkable
>download citymap.png
>open in paint? Yes
>selects yellow pencil color
> Ok, so the yellow is going to be bike lanes, red for subway lanes, green for parks, etc. etc.
>starts schizodrawing
>finishes up with a urban transit plan that is innefficent, would take years to build and hundreds of millions of dollars (that the city doesn't have/doesn't want to give) to fund
>presents it to my fellow soybanists
>gets affirmation and confirmation
>flexes said stupid plan to youtube
>censors/ignores critiqe by actual urban planners and people who know what they are doing
>gets pissed because my city ignores my shizodrawing
>REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Same reason why 90% of the people who want to be animators just want to do the storyboards, not the actual tweening work and whatnot.....

And like how when asked what their contribution to society as a "worker" will be after the great revolution? Every junior socialist says "artist" .

I did mention this in criticizing Streetcraft's recommendations for College Drive and Interstate 10 in Baton Rouge (which of course he blurred out everything because he's a cuck) because although yes, it does have two stoplights within fairly short distance of each other, they're synced together, which means traffic flows normally at least part of the time, whereas his solution (one traffic circle) means that EVERYONE is now slamming on their brakes. Maybe that was the idea all along, but they also complain about wasting resources and fuel, which is what constantly stopping does.

We all know that nothing that cities do really "reduce car dependency", it just means stuff gets restriped to bike lanes and the rest goes to some slush fund somewhere.
Man the whole painted symbol bike lane trend is retarded, glad DOT is walking that back. Every ROW is quite limited in size and of all the space you have stop painting pink lines in the middle and just make the sidewalks wider or something normal that would actually benefit businesses on it, but that would mean a biker would have to learn how to share a space for once.

We all know urbanists love to present Japan as the ultimate walkable, bike-friendly, anti-car utopia—but we all know that it's complete nonsense; I even shared some photos earlier in the thread with various examples
I don’t want to give away too much just yet but I’m planning another trip there and this time it’s going to be a road trip. When I get back I’m thinking of putting together a massive post with pictures and examples and my thoughts. Would anyone be interested? Or would this type of content be too PL-ish?

PLing primarily applies to posting embarrassing information about yourself, which derails threads. Secondarily it's about information that could lead to you getting doxed. You can do it but I recommend not to reveal too much info.

Yeah, of course- and thank you for your concern. I'll be taking all the necessary precautions and not sharing too much, the aforementioned post will be almost entirely about various aspects of driving a car there
I think you'll find (and everyone who isn't kind of an idiot knows) that there are two Japans. Car-Japan, and Transit-Japan. They overlap, but are not the same.

To prevent PL, I would recommend you write TEXT about your adventures, and use google to find images of places you visited (or similar) so you don't have to use your own photos.

(As has been shown a billion times, cars can do both commuting and "other" but transit really focuses on commuting, as it's the biggest "slice" of the travel pie.)

“There is a clear path to undoing the State’s cash grab,” Molinaro wrote on X. “The MTA is in desperate need of reform, transparency & accountability. Hardworking NYers & New Jerseyans aren’t an ATM for this bloated bureaucracy. Safety, accountability, accessibility & efficiency first!”

Trump has said he wants to end the tolling program, which the MTA is counting on to fund $15 billion of service upgrades and infrastructure maintenance. Trump called the tolls “a massive business killer and tax on New Yorkers.”

Molinaro also recently criticized the cost of MTA infrastructure projects, honing in on the East Side Access project that brought Long Island Rail Road trains to Grand Central Terminal. The project took decades to complete and its final phase was more than $8 billion over budget.

It's so funny how the Democrats have been claiming that they're the party that protects middle-class/working-class interests while the Republicans are for the elite and billionaires. Cue shocked Pikachu faces from Dems when actual middle-class people hear Republicans say things like this, and feel more inclined to voting for them instead.

I'm still amazed how Twitter Democrats have convinced themselves that congestion pricing does, in fact, own the billionaires. As if somebody actually rich is going to flip his shit at an extra $9 per day, and not the wageslave who makes that amount every hour.

In other news, people from New York, the city whose subways are frequently in the news for immolations, acid attacks, and mass shootings (let alone "minor" shit like assaults and theft), and which are also famously infested with sketchy, potentially drug-addled homeless people, feel safer on said subways than crossing the street. I guess not everyone's parents warned them to look both ways? :story:

(The numbers refer to the question in the original post: "On a scale of 1-10, how safe do you HONESTLY feel in the NYC Subway?"). Not overtly "fuck cars", but we know that these people all automatically think "safety is when train" and "danger is when car". Case in point, another post from Mr. StreetyMcCarface: I Don't Ever Want To See Another "Taking The Train Is More Dangerous Than Driving" Post Ever Again

Also, on a side note, everyone knows the urbanists who lionize the Netherlands and [insert European country here]. But has this thread touched on the China transport infrastructure glazers yet?

I'd suspect some of these alleged "Daily Show writers" would be the comedians that will be showing up in fellow-Breadtuber Wendover's reboot (or rip off?) of the UK BBC comedy series, Room 101 (I think on Nebula it's called "Abolish Everything"). It hasn't premiered yet, but Breadtube, & Nebula especially, tends to be incestuous like that.

There was one Street View picture I posted way back in the thread about fourplexes, then on a most recent post ended up talking about a subject that was a bit more in-depth than what I could've gathered otherwise.

You know, one of the things that urbanists talk about is how "selfish" people were or whatever for leaving the city for whatever reason, and then show off pictures of cities before they were "destroyed for parking". Part of the thing that they don't realize is that almost all of the old cities had houses with yards (albeit smaller ones, the newer ones were usually the same price but with a larger yard/better neighborhood) but nowadays, those don't exist anymore, and they're actively advocating for the demolition of every non-upscale neighborhood in cities.

Can't play when the game is rigged, you know?
