Youtube General thread (formerly Youtube Censorship discussion thread)

Tbh this just seems like a glitch/mistake and then an automated AI written email response.

There's literally zero possibility that Google genuinely wants to implement unskippable hour long ads. Like let's be realistic here
Never underestimate the retardation of companies and the lengths they will go to when they want to shove products down your throat.

YouTube (Google) has just provided even more motivation for viable competitors/working frontends to crop up with this latest development. I mean, what can YouTube even give you at this point that a lot of other places cannot?

I remember the halcyon days of the mid-2000's when small channels could actually thrive by the efforts of their creators rather than being buried by the algorithm, or certain opinions being censored by the platform, whether being espoused by conservatards or SJW Tumblrites.

Still able to use uBlock Origin on my browser, and it'll be staying on until it's no longer compatible.
Broke on my work computer yesterday, switched it to Safari with AdGuard which I've used on my personal system for a few years. Works as well as uBlock Origin but doesn't get as much attention from anti-adblockers.

My Windows PC has been Firefox only for a few years so UBO is still fine there.

honestly i thought everyone experienced some things like this. I have received on 3 separate instances ads running over 30 minutes. One was a power rangers episode (very odd) that I think ran 40 minutes, and the other two were some sort of MLM pyramid scheme/HERE'S OUR PRESENTATION ON ENERGY EFFICIENT LIGHTING which ran for 1 hour+. Mind you I have always been able to skip the ads, but i find it perplexing that things such as power rangers episodes/what appears to be a minecraft lets play are now able to be shuffled into the advert slot.

It's hilarious in a morbid kind of way how desperate they are to force ads down people's throats now. In the current year if you're still seeing ads on YouTube it's for one of three reasons:

1) You're a dumb kid who doesn't know better
2) You're a dumb boomer who doesn't know better
3) You disable your ad blocker out of goodwill so the YouTubers you like can get paid

All this aggression does is erode the goodwill that's keeping the third group profitable.

OK, can anyone tell me, why is it ok that Spotify has unskippable ads, and not ok if Youtube does it?
also, is there a way to adblock Spotify?
I don't know if they've patched this out but before I started leeching off a family member's paid account, I used to use the browser version of Spotify with uBlock Origin running, and it just skipped over the ad breaks. Brave's built-in ad blocker might do the trick too.
