Well it goes to show that Youtube isn't about You anymore (us). Its all a big race of money for advertisers, and a true way to have Youtubers fight over ad revenue and viewing their audience as mindless paypigs.

Once in a while I get a thing popping up saying "Adblockers are not allowed on YouTube" and I always tell the screen that it is in MY house and it is not allowed to tell me what to do.
Then I refresh and the message goes away.

I am old, I can find something else to do if it gets too obnoxious. Of course, even if my poor lil' eyeballs get exposed to advertising? I can ignore it. Just because I am aware of a product does not mean I have to purchase it.

Years ago, I remember not realizing my mom had Youtube on the TV and there was a fucking half hour long ad for a hair loss remedy. Everyone was already doing something else and I only noticed after wondering why the music stopped after 5 or so minutes. Thankfully it was skippable, but that shit apparently has only gotten worse.

I got a bit curious and did some digging.

Here is the minecraft video from the ad.

What is interesting is that the video featured in the ad is from four months ago, and it is the last video of hers that did very well. After that point, she dropped off hard in viewers.

So it would make sense for her to pull an ad to revitalize her channel, but hour long ad spots would be wildly expensive for a dying creator. But she is also a part of a large YouTuber media group: https://spawnpointmedia.com/


I am pretty sure it is the media group paying for the ad spots in an effort to save one of their talents.
So good news not every asshole can pay for it, but bad news if the ad worked in saving her channel, then other media groups are going to do the same thing.

Huh. The only time I witnessed a more than one-minute-long non-skipable ad was back in mid-2017 - it was a music video to a very generic rock song. I wasn’t aware that long unskipable ads were really that much of a common occurence. Either way, there’s always Invidious.
