Not Just Bikes / r/fuckcars / Urbanists / New Urbanism / Car-Free / Anti-Car - People and grifters who hate personal transport, freedom, cars, roads, suburbs, and are obsessed with city planning and urban design

This was months ago.

Wait, they read this thread here in the farms? 👀

*waves hello at them* Thank you guys for reminding me that next time I go to a local city council meeting, I should oppose any & every bike-friendly suggestion or proposal. It's a slippery slope, & I'm not letting any smug white colonizers take away my Quiktrip hot dogs!

Why don't we take it a step further and campaign for the bike paths to be changed into horse paths? 100% natural, no rubber tires, perfect for the Gym of Life! I wouldn't mind driving for my morning coffee like this
Indeed!

Also, you have awoken a memory of my childhood horse getting spooked by a bicyclist (but he was a pure Arabian, and they're spooked by pretty much anything). Stupid mountain bikers on horse trails, bikes ruin everything! 🤬

These fuckers ruin everything for everyone. You can't walk, bike, have your kid on a tricycle, or ride a horse if there's even a chance of them being nearby because you just know they'll ride straight at you and somehow claim it was your fault all along lmao
This is why trail riding is best in winter- not a single cyclist in sight 🥹
Were you okay? The last thing I'd wish on anyone is for their horse to get spooked in the middle of nowhere

I was fine; all he did was freeze/refused to proceed any further (even after the cyclist long since passed). However I remember being terribly embarrassed my horse was making a spectacle. It was a nice spring day, so there were many other riders on the trail 😓

Over the years I've actually seen mountain bikers get ticketed for trail misbehavior, so I like to assume that at least incentivizes cyclists to not be complete jerks on multi-use trails (or, alternatively - avoid multi-use trails altogether) 🌈

They are aware of us, but they don't actually visit the naughty taboo site. If they did they would have used Kiwi birds or slobber mutts instead. What likely happened is someone found that meme on 4chan and reposted on blusky, then someone found that and reposted it on Reddit while trying to act tough.

It’d be perfect, these urbanite walkable city anti-car fuckers absolutely hate horses too. They go off on rants about how they’re useless animals that just take up space and resources because to them any open pasture not occupied by a high-rise storage unit for crackheads apartment building with a crusty bodega on the ground floor is a hate crime.

You’d think that they’d realize the value of a mode of transportation that’s fueled entirely by plants and can autopilot your drunk ass home from the bar if necessary.

These people aren't all that removed from the ones who want to make cows wear meters to charge you for their burps......

/r/fuckcars shares a video of a German tram that inadvertently shows how much faster cars are:

No, the tram runs straight through the city center:

Look at how many cars pass the tram and disappear off into the distance, especially once it starts running next to the highway and on the major road.

The car is over 10 minutes faster:

Even with a forced diversion to the marketplace in the city center seen in the video, which forces local roads instead of ones bypassing the city center, the car is still 4 minutes faster:

Google Maps times also assume that the tram is there when you start your trip; if you have to wait the 10 minutes for the next one to arrive, the tram now takes over twice as long as driving.

This is on slow, single lane roads in an old German town. How can they possibly think that transit can compete with cars in areas with good car infrastructure like young American cities?

It should also be noted that the tram terminates in a parking lot, something very useful in reality but urbanists would rather see that replaced with bughives and expect them to use the mass transit instead.

Slow trams like this aren't ideal with trains, I've noted how better the Dallas light rail is than Houston's since it has to slam on the brakes to take hard curves (additional right of way required of course, but it still has to drop speed dramatically), but with trains and buses they have to stop all the time. "Y-yeah but stoplights" aren't a good answer since you'll hit green statistically around a third of the time, and with synchronized lights you'll hit them less. Heck, there's an article from a few years ago how optimized stoplights can cut emissions by up to 10% (per intersection), and these are already with cities that have lights on "smart" systems (instead of a simple timer). A measurable percentage of emissions reductions AND better traffic flow for a cost of almost nothing? That sounds like something urbanists should be championing, but they don't, for obvious reasons.

If only American cities had light rail, all would be good and gold.

There's a fuckton more, not going to bother linking them. Maybe some are shitty, but I daresay if you want to, you can find one to live near.

If all the USA carfuckers moved to a city with light rail, and rode the damn thing, they could cause it to grow.

every micro-car ever has never worked out long-term.
Kei cars and European analogues worked because they serve a market niche that actually exists, the old Fiat 500s may have been ridiculously tiny but they were still cars and did everything you'd expect a car to do.
What he had was probably no more than 10kg, which is practically nowt on a well supported backpack like his. Just have a miserable walk with a bag in each hand for the better part of an hour like a normal person.
So a corner shop then.
But the shitty kind that are somehow dark even with the flourescent lighting where all the windows have been plastered over with pictures of the "great offers" inside, in which you're being served by some kind of Indian who clearly resents your presence in his store.
I’m planning another trip there and this time it’s going to be a road trip
What sick JDM beast are you going to be using?

I don't really consider them "micro" cars for just that reason, they're the practical limit to how low you can go.

I'm more talking about the Tata Nano, or the Bond Bug, or Smart Fortwo.... cars built as small as physically possible with the primary goal to be as tiny as possible without devolving to motorcycles as the primary feature, not "as small as you can make a truck but still have pickup utility"

We all know urbanists love to present Japan as the ultimate walkable, bike-friendly, anti-car utopia—but we all know that it's complete nonsense; I even shared some photos earlier in the thread with various examples
I don’t want to give away too much just yet but I’m planning another trip there and this time it’s going to be a road trip. When I get back I’m thinking of putting together a massive post with pictures and examples and my thoughts. Would anyone be interested? Or would this type of content be too PL-ish?
I'd love to see the most expensive pay parking you can find. I found one that had the whole set-up for one (1) slot. Had its own vending machine and price board for it and everything.
