So what killed Xbox in the end? Was it Xbox One? Shitty games? Phil Spencer?
Wasn't just one thing that killed Xbox, but a series of fuck ups and short sightedness
1. Not using the 360 era when they were on top to build up there first party studio
2. Kinect push, it had a good 2 years on the 360 then the fad was dead, yet MS didn't get the message and went all in with it on the Xbone, leading it to costing more and being weaker than the PS4
3. Bad Press from Xbone, even when they backpaddled on DRM, the trust was gone
4. Xbone had too few first party games, and had massive misfires likes Crackdown 3
5. Gears and Halo the once the big Xbox ips, have been mismanaged and no longer have the brand power they once did. Even 10 years ago would be unthinkable a Knuckles TV show would do far better than a Halo one, but now is reality.
6. Xbox Series consoles having a lack of first party games until late 2023, even when compared to Playstation first party output which was weak it's self.
7. BC became a bigger deal with digital ownership, made it harder for someone to move from PS4 to Xbox Series.
Gamepass is a weird one, because while it hasn't help Xbox turn things around, I think without it the heads of MS would have closed down or sold off Xbox years ago.
Xbox becoming a 3rd party publisher is really the only thing they can do at this point, with everything they bought they have a good number of ips people care about, and if they are going to keep pushing Gamepass on cloud, then having alt revenue streams to cover the cost of development of the games is needed.
