I've met a few chubby chefs, but those are more on the consulting side of the business, they of course spent a lot of time sweating on the stove. Most chefs (servicemen in general, cooks, bartenders, linecooks) are slim or athletic. Got to be. You have to be nimble, you work on your feet for 8~9 hours a day, some do doubles (i did 14h sometimes). Imagine being a fat fuck in a busy place where people will move constantly around you, sometimes with hot pans? You burn a LOT of calories working on a kitchen, Jack wouldn't last a day in this business, he himself said that it's too much of a chore record him doing whatever the fuck he calls cooking

It's a question of style, etiquette and respect. Traditionally when a man entered inside a home or private office he'd take his hat off. So walking about with it is fine. Walking into a mall or office building you keep it on. Walking into a doctor's office you'd take it off along with your coat. When a man would meet a woman he'd remove his hat, tip it, or at the very least touch the brim which again showed respect. Respect is something Fatty lacks.

In restaurants like some fast food place nobody really cares. Keep it on, take it off, it's all the same. A casual, family style place where there's a server you take it off. It's just what you do as it again shows respect to the server and the restaurant. The problem is wearing it indoors like Fatty does becomes normalized. You see others doing it so you figure, "must be okay for me to do it" and soon you just have these yokels wearing their hats everywhere they go.
