Is Amphibia any good or is is garbage like Owl House, I know RuPaul is in it so it gives me pause?
Also I was going through old images to post in the random image thread and found this fan art from Mao Mao, damn I miss this show and it's extra sad because they were renewed for a second season yet it never got made.

If owl house was an over priced, snooty, haute dish served in a fancy French restaurant. Amphibia was a turkey sandwich and a glass of lemonade on a summer afternoon.

It may not be as fancy or flashy, but really sometimes simple and easy is all you ever need.

Strong first half, atrocious second half.

WHY?! WHY DO THESE PEOPLE KEEP GETTING WORK WHEN THEIR PREVIOUS WORK HAS HAD NO STAYING POWER AT ALL?! MEANWHILE, ACTUAL ANIMATION LEGENDS LIKE DON BLUTH HAVE TO TURN TO CROWDFUNDING TO GET THEIR SHIT MADE, AND EVEN THAT DIDN'T PAN OUT.
In his 2022 autobiography, Bluth recollected that the crowd-funded Dragon's Lair project raised a total of $731,172 from more than seven thousand donors. After the public presentation of the Dragon's Lair pitch to donors, Bluth and Goldman solicited the pitch to various studios but were unsuccessful in securing a film deal. The one-minute video pitch was then internally vaulted while they pursued other projects.
FUCK THIS GAY ASS INDUSTRY

I know you hate Steven Universe, but that show really caught on. Denying its impact on the masses just because it's pro-gay is really stupid.
At the time, yes. But how many people are still talking about Steven Universe today? I'm not talking about animation circles, I mean the public at large. THAT's what I mean by "staying power". Early SpongeBob, for example, has staying power, as in, I've seen memes about it on regular-ass Facebook.
Ironically, early SpongeBob is a perfect example of what you're talking about in the first portion of your post. People often forget that a lot of early SpongeBob's humor WAS subtle.

Hell, one of the episodes of the first season was straight up a riff on EDGAR ALLEN POE, of all people:

this is why the early seasons of SpongeBob are still talked about and memed with to this very day, over 20 years later, while pandering bullshit like Moon Bitch is scrubbed from the collective public consciousness
The old-school Looney Tunes have staying power.

Hell, even TEEN TITANS GO! has staying power.
Have you noticed any memes/fond remembrances of Steven Universe in the public consciousness on the level of any of the mentioned properties above? I'm willing to bet on the answer being a resounding no. Steven Universe is the very definition of a "fad" cartoon. It was THE THING during its run, but once it ended, people....stopped giving a shit about it. Not even mentioning OK KO.

How I feel everyday. A Dragon's Lair film would've been nice.

I just find it so uncanny that even Gen Alpha kids who weren't around for early Spongebob are making memes out of those episodes. Guess it shows that art can be timeless

Is it really a surprise? When you're told that getting into the industry means selling off the rights of your ideas to them 100% and if it fails or succeeds, you have no say as an artist of what you can do with your (not) property after, it's no wonder why there's a complete lack of new creative minds filling the space and it's all oldfags who got in early (that and there being a lot of libshit faggots in the artsphere).

Ian Jones Quartey, to his credit, isn't some nepo baby, he's been in the industry for a few years. He was the animation director for Venture Bros from a while and he worked on both SU and his own show. He had been animating on YouTube with Jim Gisriel for a long time and he worked his ass off to get KO greenlit. While i don't really care for KO that much, you can't deny he guy works, and the knows how to network.
That being said there are certainly a few other people I think should be getting Disney money besides Ian.

Depends on what circles you run in, I still see new fanart fairly regularly. I don't foresee any kind of revival in the next few years at least, though.

The American industry as it stands now is totally screwed. There's only a few talented people left in the industry that haven’t gone homeless or succumbed to an opioid addiction. Even someone like Tartkovsky who has some clout and toiled away in the 3D animation mines can barely get what he wants made. Are people in the industry going to let someone like Maxwell Atoms do another show or people John R Dilworth or Danny Antonucci or McCracken; guys who want to make new projects but can’t. Meanwhile that monotone retard Loren Bouchard gets 14 seasons and a shit movie for his bland, lifeless show about a bunch of charmless, frog-mouth mutants who have no facial expressions beyond blank stares and frowns.

Netflix rejected over a dozen original concepts from Craig McCracken and now he’s forced to work on a CGI baby Foster’s Home spin-off. But people who've sucked enough Hollywood and Podcast bro dick, can easily get themselves FOX or Netflix cartoons about hideously drawn people doing heckin' normal things.

It's just an awful era for the industry, I thought it was a good deal for Antonucci, his Lupo the Butcher getting an animated series, then boom! Netflix rejected it, but you know what did get accepted, a lame haunted house cartoon from Dan Harmon, who already has two big name cartoons that suck total ass.
