Melonie I haven't really followed, but Raz0r works it into his story, the way he frames it is he was hiding his faith. I do remember early on there was some minor controversy because he shit on some tweet Neil Degrasse Tyson made that was essentially promoting atheism, and Raz0r went on thedrunkenpeasants essentially to prove he wasn't religious. I haven't seen the interview itself, I saw him recapping it on some other podcast, Steven Crowder maybe, this was years ago. I do remember him at the time pointing to pentegrams and other such stuff within the metal he liked as evidence he wasn't Christian.
That makes no fucking sense to me, the way Razor is framing it. I mean, being a Christian during the 2010s wasn't a crime like in Ancient Rome; there were openly Christian groups like the Catholic League participating in politics, the Right was still openly Christian. The worst you'll suffer in the internet culture are a bunch of internet spergs bitching about you worshiping a dude in the sky, but you can easily fire back and tell them that they're godless heathens destined for hell or something. Or tear apart their amateur logic with apologetics that have been perfected for over a millennium of Christian academic thought.
The video game culture had their Christian or Christian-esque heroes here and there. Lord of the Rings was openly a Christian work, and there were video games of it left and right. Star Wars games that have morality options had Light-Sided responses reflect Christian values of forgiveness, charity, and love. Mass Effect's paragon Shepard is jokingly referred to as "Space Jesus" due to how the paragon path usually follows Gospel teachings. Game series such as Elder Scrolls and Warcraft even modeled the Church of the Holy Light or the worship of the Nine Divines after the Medieval Catholic Church.
There were some metal bands that identified as Christian, so not even the metalhead crowd would treat you like a leper if you were open about the Faith. Even in the internet culture, there were Christians and Christian groups who were openly picking fights with atheists on the web during the height of the skeptics' mania. Fuck, even the liberals got hyped for liberal Christian leaders like Pope Francis bringing the word of Jesus Christ from a more liberal perspective, and they had their own religious mouthpieces like the Catholic Fr. James Martin or the Presbyterian Christopher Hedges, so even the Left had no shortage of religious voices.
If Razorfist openly identified as a Christian in the 2010s, nobody would've held it against him. He'd just be one of many internet voices who have a religious leaning; granted, people like Mangaminx, Styxenhammer, or the Amazing Atheist might hate him for it, but that hate would be trivial. If anything, he could've had more clout being an openly religious dude on the internet in the past, since that would give him a platform to tell the Skeptics to go to hell, and with how cringe the Skeptics are, that would've made him just as much an internet hero as he was when he was taking the game journos to task.
The only people Razorfist would have to hide his faith from are a few godless voices on the internet and the culture. If what he says is true, then he hid his faith from these people just to fit in, only now to openly embrace Christianity now that we have a "conservative Christian" candidate for president winning elections. It really goes to show that the dude was just chasing either the agnostic/atheist or the Christian side for clout. That's why it feels like a grift for me. He had his chance to stand for the faith back then when the godless were legion and had legitimate fame and influence in the internet; now, being a Christian just to "own the libs" is just clout-chasing, especially since many of the libs themselves slowly switched to being liberal Christians because even they needed some guidance and spirituality in their lives.
Hell, I generally liked a lot of Razor’s content and even bought his fucking book. But this grift onto Christ’s name has me more irritated than anything else because it’s every stereotype about Christianity rolled up like some BDSM leather gimp. This isn’t even getting into the bands he likes that bring up occult symbols.
If you wanna find God, then good for you. Find your inner peace, I don’t begrudge anyone for it. But for fuck’s sake stop acting like your shit doesn’t stink, Danny.
My general thing with this bullshit over big tiddies in the video games is like “hey, it’s not my preferred thing, so I’m not gonna play it.”
If anything, Razorfist using Christ's name to attack other things people like, while the things he likes is even more degenerate, is rather hypocritical of Razorfist. I mean, older games like KOTOR and Mass Effect have romance options for lesbians. Danny-boy has gone on record as being a fan of both games. So him getting pissy at something straight men would like, while ignoring that his favorite RPGs have options for carpet-munchers, is literally the height of hypocrisy. And that's not even touching the BG3 example, where bull dykes, gay vampires, and bear sex are options. At that point, comparing that to Stellar Blade and First Descendant, the latter two are pristine in comparison.
