Youtube General thread (formerly Youtube Censorship discussion thread)

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
Invidious used to have some instances that let you download the audio-only of videos or the entire video itself, but they were wiped out a few months ago with one of YouTube's tard-rages.
NewPipe is for Android-only, but there are so many different forks of it like Sponsorblock and PipePipe that there is a certain degree of redundancy with the client.
Otherwise, if you do a quick search online, you can find many websites that will allow you to download audio or video from a YouTube URL.
Thanks but I meant for watching, and online.

I think the worst I have seen it was in Wipeout HD way back on the PS3. They would sometimes slip ads into the loading screen and PURPOSEFULLY make the loading bar move slower so the whole ad can play. It is fucking diabolical and I hope whoever came up with that is dead in a ditch somewhere.
Yeah no I can't watch that, duh!

they got what amounts to an automated response that saw the word 'ad'. i'm not sure why they think this is a real human response. it doesn't even have anything to do with the problem in question.

Ask YouTube about something else and randomly use the word "ad" in it. Publish the AI response as their official response. Repeat with every company to make them mad.

A news website, Androidauthority.com, has decided to contact Google about this and this is what they got:
Ads are a vital lifeline for our creators that helps them run and grow their businesses. That’s why the use of ad blockers violate YouTube’s Terms of Service. We’ve launched a global effort to urge viewers with ad blockers enabled to allow ads on YouTube or try YouTube Premium for an ad free experience.
Most ad blockers don’t work so I just pay the $13.99 to shut them up.

It’s annoying, but it’s better than having Mormons on my screen inviting me to visit their temple.

I've been using uBlock Origin for years, and I haven't seen a single ad on YouTube.
Same here, although I may have gotten stupid "ad blockers aren't allowed" BS message once or twice before using that YT site stopped.

Had YT not started that aggressive BS campaign to push people to watch the ads, I may still have been using that YT site to this day.

Look at you rating someone MATI for calling you what you are. If you're not going to contribute anything meaningful to the thread, you don't need to post because thread regulars are going to think you're a retard for paying for YouTube Premium, that's just how it is.

God, I hate thread tourists.

kill yourself for being too stupid to click add to browser on ublock origin or ad nauseum you fucking nigger. the planetary average IQ will increase when you do.

I'm so glad I don't deal with this shit. Ublock, Newpipe, and YT-DLP are the only things that make YouTube valuable, and the day that YouTube "wins" the war of attrition through DRM, embedded ads, and account requirements is the day I stop interacting with it entirely.

Hopefully by then we're not firewalled from Russia and I can still steal shit from ok.ru over the clearnet.
Yeah the ads are getting really fucking weird now. I got an Ai ad claiming if you rub your dick with salt it makes it grow 12 inches. Then then there are these ads where women are fingering themselves but the video is cropped. You can still HEAR everything though. I tested somthing out I made a new account using while using a virtual machine. Guess what? I get the same fucking ads. I don’t even feel comfortable pulling up a YouTube video while I’m with my GF. Going forward from here I only use Adblock
I would like to see the dick salt ad, do you remember the product being shilled?

Also, was your VM-accessed account connecting to YouTube from the same IP as your real account? I would like to believe the described ads are somehow tied to IP range, rather than being widespread.

I wouldn't be surprised.

I can imagine them rolling out in their app first, perhaps have a "lite" subscription where you still get shorter ads, and a "deluxe" where you can get ad free experience and some extra features. I am sure they will also try to put resolutions behind a paywall.

With this, I can imagine youtube ads actually becoming worse, just to annoy you enough so you buy the YT lite, so you you can suffer trough shorter and more curated ads.

The sad part is normalfags can't be even bother to try an alternative browser or google for 1 minutes to find out ublock origin works. Hell on the phone, just use Brave. But the average user can't be bothered to make one click, but can be bullied to pay money. Sad.

It sucks that there's no real competing video sites on the scale of YT. Such monopoly is part of why Google keeps getting worse now.
The problem is two fold:

Running a video site is resource intensive.
The audience just stays there because the site is still functional and there are no better alternatives. (Hell the Youtube app is already on their phone by default, hard to compete with that.)

However I think it would be possible to actually try to make a video site that offers something different, but it would need to focus on a niche audience first and provide a better user experience. Simply put one would need to make a good system that can scale, and figure out a better way to do monetization. Of course good luck improving on a system that was improved over 20 years by guys are geniuses in their field. lol

One would really need to think about why video creators and viewers leave YouTube. Simply having an alternative or even being "free speech" is simply not enough reason for most to seriously look into the other site. Content creators make their living there, moving away from the place that works is a huge risk. For the audience, YT still have everything, I don't know how could you lead them to a new place.

YouTube had a much easier environment to start in, online video was a novelty. People mostly used their browsers. The eye of Sauron both in a corporate and political sense was not turned to the Internet yet. There were no content farms, Jeets and AI to spam your stuff into an unusable mess, there was no incentive to steal channels etc.
