It's not a problem of cost, it's a problem of service. And youtube's service has gotten extremely degraded over the years.
It's sheer greed that drives these moves. The desire for more and more at the expense of the user experience. Content has been lobotomized intentionally for watch time retention and nothing else. You can easily see that through the fucking algorithm. Content isn't rewarded for being well liked or engaged with by commenters, or anything else that would incentivize quality. Infact rage bait is encouraged. Clickbait slop. Immediate ADHD styled grab your attention tactics. The entire user interface and recommendation system drives this dogshit content and it's become far more difficult to navigate to dedicated channels and playlists. All while stripping away more and more of the user's autonomy to hide how bad videos are.
Oh, and the adverts themselves. Remember when ads were fun. Or just trying to make the product cool or endearing. Just something with a rare inch of soul. HAHA. That ain't ever coming back. Long gone. No now you get ads so bad they literally violate TOS for youtube. And Youtube doesn't give a shit because the advertisers pay them. Pay them to deliver softcore porn or sexual advertisements, scammers who make thousands off desperate people, or my personal favourite, Crypto ads. Let alone the typical corposcum ads made to be the most loud and obnoxious thing since rap. Because that supposedly works on retards.
And you get cocksuckers like that spaztic guy who paid for Premium defending this shit as if they don't make fucking billions off data harvesting. Justifying this.
It's a damn shame tbh. A damn shame. Nearly all the old creators I enjoyed became sell outs, egotistical cunts or fucking faggots. Because they were encouraged to.
I used to enjoy my time with youtube. Now my front doorstep is covered in slop made for retards.

Well that's fucking horrifying. A mate of mine got an ad about a chick masturbating. He told us all about it, found a reddit thread about it. And yeah, it was literally just censored porn.
And youtube just doesn't give a shit. Advertisements weren't meant for this fucking degenerate porn rot. What, are we fucking Twitch?
As for the "Everything is Piracy" cope. Well... look who's saying it. Look who's doing it. It's corposcum and their soulless followers. It's time we just fucking break their femurs in court. YT search got a little worse. I like to look up official OST vids for Japan vidya, and entering searches of the OST titles in English would bring them up. Now it doesn't do that unless I copy-paste Japanese titles from wiki or the like. YT really needs competition...

YT was much better in the '00s. Much, much better. No video ads yet (IIRC), no "Premium" BS, and no freakish or scam Clown World ads.

I can't watch any YouTube video without thinking to myself "What am I doing?" and clicking off. Every video is edited to keep the attention of a goldfish or has some guy talking into his mic for an hour about something that doesn't matter.

If there was ever a chromium based browser i'll shill for, its definetely brave, between them supporting Ublock directly and always being quick to update their ad blockers its probably my favorite browser, especially for youtube. Add in Ad nauseum to help make youtube actively lose money, all the better.
Im starting to feel this way to, save a few I still watch just for background noise. I just stick to older videos and podcasts for when im at work or working out because I need some background noise now.

Oh yeah I can't find plenty of videos without the same method either. It's fucking aids when you're hunting for songs, or even obscure videos that used to be so easy to find. I can't wait for this website to fucking perish under the weight of it's rotted baggage laid atop it.

Hope I can ask this question here. I'm trying to remember a YouTuber who no longer makes content but I'm fairly sure his channel still exists. It was an irreverent comedy channel by a British or Australian guy with humorous takes on video games and the video game industry in general, I believe.
The one unique thing that may help to identify who I'm talking about is that this guy abandoned his channel on purpose by having the character he was portraying die as part of some story arc. His fanbase thought it was just a joke and that he would come back before too long, but he really did disappear for good after his "death" (he actually died on screen in his final video, IIRC). Keep in mind that this was not an honest attempt at tricking people into thinking he had died. The whole thing was played for laughs.
Does anyone know who I'm thinking of? This annoys me because I know I liked his videos a lot but I've completely forgotten all about them.

Because it's not allowed. It's like the imageboards, only 4chan is allowed to exist. If somebody tries to make a new one with more features, they will get spammed to death with CSEM/CSAM.

My preferred NewPipe fork is BraveNewPipe. It includes all the goodies of Tubular, but also works across multiple platforms such as Rumble and BitChute. It's what I used before I switched to GrayJay.
