It makes it even more insulting to think back to the Adpocalypse. I'm supposed to believe that the kind of people that make an AI dedicated to generating feet pics (yes that's a real ad I got) are too high and dignified to want to advertise on a PewDiePie video because he made a 10 sec WW2 joke.

The adpocalypse was a shitshow over nothing burgers because advertisers felt that their "good name" (lets just ignore the countless controversies that many of said companies being advertised were part of) would be at risk if it was in the same video as someone saying "nazi" in the first seconds of the video (EVEN a historical based channel) or dead/kill (now people gotta unironically say "unalive" as its very inconsistent on just what words Youtube has a beef with or not).

And now with these naughty ads, it only makes you see how fucked the whole system is.
There also needs to be competition for "Google Chrome" as well.

That browser is causing web design to get more and more crappy.

Anyone still unironically using G.C is either a boomer that doesnt know any better or a nigger faggot NPC who doesnt care their RAM is being devoured for some fucking reason. "uh, its faster" lol no it fucking aint.

At this point, its more dignified to use Edge.
How do you stop people from all choosing to use the same service because everything they want to watch is already there? YouTube is a monopoly, and so is Steam. So is Google Maps. Xitter would probably count too if it wasn't for the lefties and righties shouting in their hugboxes. You could also potentially make cases for Twitch, Reddit, and Discord. There are some kinds of services where people will just naturally graviate to one singular place, and if it wasn't YouTube, it would've been someone else. We will never go back to the era of people hosting their own things on their own place, even if it might be better for mental or societal health. Maximum convenience, minimum taps, minimum amounts of places to check.

There is an aspect of both comformity and the fact that competitor either suffer from not having a fraction of the features the main thing has and active boycott from said main thing. You have to understand that you arent going against Youtube, you are going against Google. When you go against Twitch, you go against Amazon and etc. These companies have "fuck you" amounts of money to invest in ways to keep your alternative from ever becoming an issue.

Its scummy but it is how it is.

It looks like YouTube is creating auto-generated quizzes under videos.

Apparently, this has been going on since 2023 to "test users knowledge on subjects". This is the first time I've seen or heard about this and I use the YouTube app way more than on PC. I don't know how different this is because I'm using a modified YouTube app.

They are now introducing webgl to the player, if you don't support it, get fucked.
Yeah, I was wondering what was going with YT. I am not sure about stock FF, but in Libre Wolf I had these lines. Brave was going fine tho.

Yeah it's really unfortunate just how much literally everything involving technology sucks ass today. 2000s internet was a chaotic mess but it was a unique experience and really fun. Now it's a corrupt pile of shit full of scams and corporate ads, dog shit social media completely filled with scammers and apps that don't work worth a shit half the time. It really sucks.

The best comparison is the wild west to modern society. The former was indeed chaotic but there was an element of freedom and self reliance that is completely loss with "civilized" society that is as corrupt but tries to seem better than it actually is.

The former was honest with how it was, the latter aint.

At this point I would recommend using Brave Browser if you want to use Youtube, I am seeing that that platform has become more and more hostile to everyone especially Guntubers.

Here's a good video that explains it all:
I don't get all this Brave simping, as I said it constantly disables add-ons that "violate chrome store policy", any media site craps out after a while and fails "to load media" requiring a restart, and captchas are less successful than in Firefox.
Also, why do people post yt videos left and right, with no archives or alt links, in this fucking thread?

We REALLY fucking need some competition for this dog shit website.
That would be neat, I just don't really see any actual openings on the part of YouTube that could be exploited.

It'll take millions and millions of dollars of money just to have even the slightest chance of succeeding. Unless you serve a market that Youtube doesn't serve (like Rumble for the right-wingers) why would they ever walk away from the all-you-can-eat buffet that is YouTube? The answer is, they won't. Vimeo and Dailymotion also existed, you know. Why do you think no one talks about them anymore? One stop shops with the most to offer always win. Always. Win.
I have to agree.

I am by all means in favor of competition, but whoever tries to take on YT is basically taking on the concept and understanding of online video as we know it.

The backlog is extensive, content creators and brands have zero reason to leave YT and good luck matching Google's technical know-how and infinitely deep pockets.

There is a reason, as you have mentioned, that the top tech companies rarely try to compete in each other's fields. Barriers of entry are super high and user acquisition is a hard.

Still I would love to see some contenders, I really hate Google and the current tech landscape.

I can't watch any YouTube video without thinking to myself "What am I doing?" and clicking off. Every video is edited to keep the attention of a goldfish or has some guy talking into his mic for an hour about something that doesn't matter.
Reminds me of this guy, who wasted so much of his life making this video.

See, what this retard doesn't know, is that he just made a mythology video about the various gods and demons from different cultures and religions.

Every fucking video on yt is like this nowScreenshot_20230604_201316_Twitter.jpg

Thats the face of a Low-T man who just realized he made a 14 hour long video over shit people dont care about and will likely just use as background noise while doing other things.

If I want mythos, then I will literally just watch any type of history video that does a better job explaining them.

He also went to Poland just to go to a manga store

In the future, after humans have gone extinct, a spacefaring species will arrive on Earth, and begin digging through the ruins. They will be able to recover data from what little remains of the data storage centers. Among the data recovered will be a nearly 15 hour long video, which the visitors believe documents the mythology, philosophy and religion of what was once the dominant species on the planet. The visitors believe that the man in the video was a scholar of religion and philosophy, possibly even a member of a priestly order dedicated to preserving the knowledge of this civilization. Some of the visitors believe that the interactive nature of the document the man discusses in the video is indicative of how important the material was to this civilization, in order to transmit the mythologies and philosophies contained within it in an engaging manner to the children of these once great people.

Dunno if I'm late, I just found out that they're allowing channels/content creators to selectively block VPNs. was worried that it was an entire youtube feature but it's only appearing on the @formula1 page, would not be an issue except the @formula1 channel is so boosted in the algorithm for anything F1 related it's pretty much the entire search page.

Have not yet encountered any other channels doing this, all other videos are working fine without changing of disabling my VPN.

This is what you get when you click learn more.

They truly refuse to allow any sort of privacy, huh?

I was on Windows and wanted to look at something on Youtube. Haven't installed FreeTube there yet so the fastest way was just raw dogging Youtube on Firefox.

The page took around 20 to 30 seconds to load. Reminded me of those reports months ago of Firefox and/or adblock users being deliberately slowed down on Youtube.

EVERY Grand Prix Highlight of 2024 YOU WON'T BELIEVE WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!!1!
Now even big corpo official channels are doing these clickbait random capitalized word titles crap?
What's next for them, 2 second Spongebob cuts after a driver hits the wall? Looney Tunes sound effects when someone brakes? Some guy with an ironic mullet and a moustache freezing the frame in the middle of a race, sighing, then saying "Okay Youtube, we need to talk..."?

It's been bad on Safari too for more than a year now. At first I thought my laptop was just getting old, or my wifi sucks but it's only Youtube that takes seconds to load.

On principle, I refuse to click on videos that don't tell me what they're about on the title.
