Wendigoon Thread

I’m with Hunter on this one. Bless Isaiah’s heart, I don’t know how he does it, but this wasn’t fun at all. Happy for him that he somehow managed to find entertainment out of it, you do you white boy.
I’ll probably never rewatch this episode, it’s not even so bad that it’s good like the other bad stories. Jeff the Killer was short and so over the top and unrealistic in every turn. The Thing in The Basement and Deepwoods were hilarious because of the sharp nosedive in quality leaving them both dumbfounded. In a sense, I Dared My Best Friend sort of reminds me of My Job Is Watching A Woman, wherein both are unbearable slogs. But at the very least the latter started off interesting enough but went off the rails. This one was so clearly absolute dogshit from the beginning.

(Side note holy fuck it’s annoying having to type out the entire title of these faggy fucking stories, even turning them into an acronym creates a long eyesore. How do we shorten it to more palatable references kiwibros?)

Finally got through Berries in the Window. Didn't hate it but the ending confused me, not sure if it was the writing itself or me only half paying attention to it while working.
I did like the description of the angel/demon/whatever during the penultimate sequence. It made me think of this
Goddamn, I forgot about this one, such a great horror short. I’m pretty sure I first saw it thanks to an early Wendigoon stream as well

When you reach a certain level of boredom you start grasping at literally ANYTHING to try to have fun with. If Wendi checked out like Hunter then the episode would have been dead in the water. Honestly his hype is what pushed me to finish the video, so God bless him.

I would watch Watching a Woman again because they found their muse pretty quickly by leaning into the fact that Thomas a complete retarded and riffing off of that the whole time (even if they ran out of steam by the end). But with Ruin my Life, there wasn't much to the protagonist's character that they could build off of. So we just had a whole middle of just dull infodumps and nothing happening. It wasn't until the end of the story that shit was happening that they could play with. If the story was the just first 2 parts and the last 2 parts then this would have been a lot more fun episode.

Just pick two or three key words from the title and use that.
Watching a Woman
The thing in the Basement
Ruin my Life
The Other Astronaut
Please Shoot Me

See, they almost seem like real titles instead of rejected light novels.

Wendigoon appears to be looking for researchers and writers for his videos. Since he seems to be doing more podcast stuff I can see why he wants some extra hands.
That'd be pretty cool to apply for if I had a job that allowed me potentially dozens of hours to research topics for videos, while also giving me enough time to do literally any of the other shit that needs done daily. I mean that unironically. I'd love to put my very specific brand of autism to use and make money without having to out myself or voice on camera.

I'm 2 and half hours into IDMBFTRML and although Isiah carried me for a good portion of it, I'm fading. The story is so consistently bad that even the weird ARG identity theft PSA going on is not enough to keep me invested.

I'm convinced that this is divine punishment for Hunter's fucking awful masturbation jokes during the AstroNOT Dead story so at least I have the schadenfreude from his misery to feed off of.

I didn't have time to listen to the podcast recently, but I had a couple of days off this week and watched the latest three episodes. Tbh, none of them were great. The astronaut story was alright but Hunter's coomer jokes icked me out. Berries in the Window was total trash, I couldn't make head nor tail of what happened and I watched it twice, and the banter wasn't memorable at all. I also believe the boys (Hunter especially) hesitated to critique the story as they knew the author was a fan of the show; Isaiah likes basically everything lol, but you could tell Hunter was less than enthusiastic about the obvious Reddit-tier writing. I Dared My Best Friend was by far the worst of the three; in addition to the story being irredeemable in every possible respect, there were no memorable moments to latch onto that would make a rewatch worth it. 90% of the story was Isaiah speedreading and Hunter silently wishing for death. We need a properly good story or a funny dog turd for the boys to laugh at.

Also, I don't see how the I Dared my Best Friend even counts as a creepypasta/horror story; the only "horrifying" event was David killing his mother, but that took place off-page. It read more like a really bad thriller than a proper horror story.

If we consider the angle that it was literally a PSA aimed at making the youth more aware of the issues caused by identity theft, then you must also consider that any praise for the story and the surrounding ARG was bought and paid for.

Better than the last one if only because it’s like an hour long. Not done yet so it could shit itself by the end but a little more than halfway and this is pretty solid, there’s no big retarded conspiracy or deep lore shit, just a person in an isolated and vulnerable situation with creepy shit happening, which are my favorite stories so far.

Finished it, story is certainly not perfect but the short length lets me forgive a hell of a lot more than the five hour ones, and again I think a tight personal story always beats a sprawling retarded conspiracy lore mess. The actions of the characters not immediately telling the protagonist what they can see and taking him seriously is frustrating but I think that’s very intentional and is probably something that disabled or handicapped people can identify with pretty well. I’m sure most disabled people can tell plenty of stories where the able bodied person you’re relying on isn’t fully treating you as an equal and either brushes off a legitimate concern or doesn’t convey to you the full scope of the situation. Overall I liked it, really good premise, decent execution for the length. Banter was a mixed bag, got some laughs out of both of them but definitely got a few groaners from Hunter, but good episode.

Would it even work as a PSA? Like sure, you can say the message is "Hey, you can do all this stuff to be slightly more safe" but nothing the protagonist goes through is a disconnected bit misfortune, it's a conspiracy to ruin his life specifically because he was friends with Light Yagami if he used reddit, so you can just as easily say the true message is "Hey, be careful if your friend watches too much Death Note and starts reminiscing on high school".

Only the first and third parts were really any good. The protagonist is such a massive dumbass it actually took me out of the story, only coming back because of the reveal. You think someone is in your house, you hear them walking up the stairs, so instead of calling the police you call your sister to come over and then brave your way down to open the door for her? And then once you do realize there is a monster you decide to come back to move all your things out, furniture and all? That's exactly what the creature wanted, and yet he (funnily enough the entire time I thought the narrator was a woman) went and did it anyway and got his friends killed. It's so bizarre.

I think this was the author they were talking about a while ago, the one with the giant warning that she (?) would take down any videos using her content without permission. There's a giant warning on her page about it.

Kinda ironic when the core premise of her story is taken directly from a much earlier two sentence horror story

Also I don't understand why she called it the AC when clearly it's supposed to be the heater. I have literally never heard of anyone use the word AC to refer to a heater in my life. Author must not be American, I guess.

The ending is so strange, too. The police just have video evidence of the paranormal now? I guess it’s at least different and not a “I got sent to prison over a misunderstanding” ending.

I though lt it would be slimebeast, but I guess not. I get why she wouldn't want the paid parts getting read but you'd think she'd want the free parts out there to build interest in the story.

The overall story was alright, it really felt like she just had a few creepy scenarios setup around being blind and the rest of the story was just trying to connect them. I mean I would not have guessed based off the title and premise it would be about demon thing trying to take over her life.

Very glad this one was short. Pretty enjoyable. It's faaar from perfect but it's not dogshit. I liked part 1 the most, excellent setup that works completely on its own IMO. The parts where the MC interacted with others was very hit or miss. I do think it was trying to highlight the MC is blind by people just seeming to suddenly act weird since the MC cannot see expressions, but that could be a MASSIVE reach and didn't hit. I wish the monster wasn't just another mimic monster because the idea of something living in your transdimensional staircase is neat to me, but itw as fine. The reveal was cool. The final part wasn't terrible, but the setup was pretty bad. The MC went from "Oh they are kind of dumb" to straight up retarded.

I'm in a weird spot with the ending. It's not completely shit terrible but it's also far from good. I don't hate it.
