because i still hold onto my theory that their biggest reason for destroying it so much instead of just relegating all the changes and updates to the sequels and letting oldschool stay oldschool, is that they're mad butthurt that people like the old game better than whatever crap they can make and are forcing it on us out of spite

I guess nowadays the only genuine way to experience the game without all this contemporary noncery is playing on private servers like Vidyascape, although not having all these users running around you while you do your tasks does make it a lot less exciting to play.

Ironically the most genuine way to play is f2p. The only thing that isn't truly original is the camdozal area/quest line. You miss out on a lot of content but it's the truest thing to the original concept.

I had quit when they added the trannylover faggot body type a/b bullshit and the pronouns, it was the final straw. It's a gnome or dwarf or something named after the guy who invented the pride flag who gives out free pride-flag themed cosmetic items. He was first seen during that one really famous first pride event, but got removed shortly after people protested about it and the event ended. After a few years, it got added permanently to the game, southeast of barbarian village, with a newspost whose reasoning was pretty much "fuck you we do what we want". That is in addition to the other pride events they regularly schedule every year now.

Of course, none of these things were ever polled, it was forced onto the players regardless of whether they wanted it or not, the reasoning being that inclusivity and integrity changes do not need to be polled. Same thing applied when they renamed NPCs, changed some dialogue options, and added random niggers around the game so it would be more diverse and less problematic. Reddit is getting riled up NOW because 'muh CVS / muh private equity / capitalism le bad' but you could see this shit coming from a mile away if you know what ESG is.

I kind of stomached it and played with bonds anyway because like a good crack addict i cared more about getting my fun than actually following through on something for princple and i could cope my way out of it since it wasn't "that intrusive anyway" despite heavily disliking it, but when they added body type A/B and the tranny pronouns i was completely fucking done with that shit, and was not the only one. Null commented on that situation as well. It's fucking infuriating.
The monetization crap is just the natural progression of this whole thing. This won't be the last of it, even if everyone is pissed now. Bethesda has been trying to make people pay for mods for decades and every time it gets pushed back because of backlash, it doesn't stop them from trying again and again. It's the same here, they'll keep moving in this direction forever, which is why i figured i'd cut my losses at that point before i sank more thousands of hours into it just to realize i'd have wasted even more time down the line. Looks like it was the right choice, but it's still disappointing.

I remember accidently finding the fag gnome and saying "what the fuck is this?!" My goal now is to finish maxing and get out before they ruin the rest of it with sailing. Fagex has always rubbed me the wrong way with the fact that the only way to get ahold of them is reddit discord or twitter if youre lucky. Honestly, it was for the best. I sometimes watch videos about the game and think i miss it, then i remember what actually playing the game means and don't miss it anymore. Sadly, playing osrs obsessively does not improve one's quality of life. It's unlike other games, the addiction is far more insidious and long-term than other games. Seeing the constant drama oozing out of it only cements the feeling that i left a sinking ship that was going nowhere either way. No regrets.

Potential Captain Obvious moment: most of those "investors" purposely pumped up the short-term valuation of the game, at the expense of long-term viability, to sell it to someone else. The buyer may have even been aware that the property is being artificially inflated and/or being sucked dry, but there's a concept called "bigger fool" in the investment space. Basically you know that something makes a terrible long-term investment, but you bet on someone else buying it from you, before it crashes.

With this context, things like the AIDS Gnome make bit more sense. Positive PR from the "mainstream" media and outright ESG money, in short-term, probably outweigh all the players who quit or we're banned. Long-term damage to player trust is the problem of the next fool.
