Far be it for me to question the king in his ascendancy, but this may or may not be a good idea.

Alberta has its version of this, the Heritage Fund, which was meant to sock away resource wealth for a future time when that ends.

In the early 2000s we had billions in the fund, and not only did we not have a deficit, we ended up paying off our actual debt. Sounds good, right?

In actuality we had an accidental lefty government win in 2015 and they treated it like a new credit card. Years of unrestrained spending which they got at great interest rates because our balance sheet was amazing to start.

Like a private equity bust out, all that saving just meant the lefties could blow it all faster than you can imagine.

The problem is that you are giving up US power projection. Also allowing crises to exacerbate as without USAID, we aren’t able to provide food in the case of a famine or medical aid in the case of a humanitarian disaster. Tensions increase in a destabilized region, and do you know what happens to those people? They migrate to safer areas. Like what happens on our southern border.

Ultimately forcing the US taxpayer to pay more as we process illegals or even send our military overseas to restore order in another 20 year, $2-3 trillion war.

USAID is why we no longer have forces in Niger and Chad. People would rather make deals with the Russians or Chinese.
